"Is there a place that Tonbokiri-san likes?" Honebami might have just been caught up in the memory, but he could feel something... like what Tonbokiri felt as a spear, that was familiar in his own memories, if a bit hazy.

"A place I like?" He repeats back the question thoughtfully, giving it his full consideration. He doesn't have to think too long before answering, "The mountains and fields of Mikawa. The fields at Honmaru are comfortable to be in, as well."

"I'd like to see those fields, but... it's strange, to then have such vivid memories that arent mine." It's dawning on him, because Tonbokiri's memories become his in a way, and vice-versa.
"You said I could use you to look into my past, but I'd rather show you what I know was happy. When I wasn't lonely." Which isn't what they agreed on, and while they could do it for a while... isn't that wasting time?

"It is natural to want to share the best memories. And I would be pleased to see them, if they come to be shown. However as I told you before, all of your experiences have made you as you are now. You need not evade them, nor hesitate to share them with those you trust."

"The past me must have felt lonely after Osaka burned. Even if I cannot fully remember that, surely there's somethimg..."
He touches Tonbokiri's hand, lightly with his fingertips.
It's dark. Honebami was packed into a neat box, listening to the outside. There are voice, muffled but he can make out words like "Osaka", "burning"
"Tokugawa"... He wants to hear about his brothers he knows some were caught in that fire. But a wakizashi can't talk. He then hears from outside about all of this cargo they have will be in a storeroom, like they're spoils of Osaka but not trophies. Just things they recovered.
He's going to be in this box for a while. He doesn't like it, but at least he can listen. He should feel "lucky" according to them. How is he lucky if his family is hurt? Please, he wants to see them.
Honebami is glad the memory ends there. He knows the continuation of it, looking down.

Returning from the memory, Tonbokiri looks down at Honebami, who is looking down himself. Taking the hand that the sword is not lightly touching, Tonbokiri puts it lightly on his pale hair.
"Of course it was lonely. And it was a long time of waiting to see the light of day again, wasn't it. I can understand, a little." There is deep sympathy in Tonbokiri's voice. Despite his status, he'd also had deeply lonely times, and long times of waiting in the dark.
"I am thankful that Aruji was able to bring so many of your family to Honmaru. It does not undo the past, but it does make for a bright present and future."
no subject
"It does. I'm grateful..."
Honebami wishes he could thank them for what they've done. Everyone was wary of Honebami going off to seek his memories, but Aruji-san didn't decline that request of Honebami. Maybe they knew that was how he could move forward with life and appreciate what was in front and ahead of him. That's plenty more than an old waki can ask for.
"Tonbokiri-san... Could you hold me? I would do it myself, but... I just want to give just that and I can't right now."
no subject
"I can hold both you, the man, and you, the wakizashi, as much as you like."
He moves his hand to Honebami's shoulder and presses it reassuringly, to emphasize his words.
