What: QUEST RELATED CATCH ALL. There's an open bee prompt since Guren is a red, so anyone is welcome even if you didn't plot with me! Newbies too, once they get in!

[Guren feels as though he's been going a little easy on the quests lately. It's time to fix that. He's antsy, he's got an empty jar in one hand and his other on his sword, and he holds it up to anyone who might pass him by.]

[And with that simple line, they're off! Unless your character has any resistance, of course, but assuming they don't, Guren leads them right into the forest.]

[ dextera is just glad he didn’t push it. he’s hiding something and he feels a little bad—but surely, he thinks, it will go away. when it goes away, it won’t be a problem anymore, so it’s useless to bring up to guren now. ]

Ah…

[ the ring. right. he fishes it out of his pocket, holding it in the palm of one hand so guren can see what it is. with his other hand, he explains it quickly. ]

It’s dangerous.

[Ah. It's one of those. Guren's eyes snap to the ring, and he holds out his own palm like he wants to hold it.]

Dangerous how?

[ dextera hesitates on dropping it into his hand, but he needs to free up his hands anyway. he places it in guren’s palm, and then quickly closes his fingers to keep guren from even thinking about putting it on or anything equally reckless. ]

It can permanently erase a memory. Just once, I think… but…

[ it’s tempting, is the problem. ]

[Ah.

That is dangerous.]

You've had your own memories erased. You know how it feels. [He says it low, carefully, glancing down at his closed hand.] It's not something you should do willy nilly. Maybe at all.

[...]

Were you considering it?

[ dextera knows. he shouldn’t do it, because he’s been suffering so much without his memories—but he’s suffering with them, too, so is it really better this way? ]

…

[ he nods. he didn’t come here to lie about this. ]

I keep thinking… I can help you. But I know it’s not… like this.

[He wondered if it might be that. He gets it. He really does. But—]

All of those memories are what make me who I am right now. [He squeezes Dextera's arm, again.]

I already have some issues with my memory. It's okay that I remember those things. I need to. Okay?

[ they hurt him so much, though—it’s hard for dextera to watch. while he’s had the ring, in the aftermath of this memory sharing, all he could think about was the sight and sound of guren crying under the weight of his guilt.

then, he told himself that the guilt wouldn’t go away. it didn’t for dextera. this thought only assuaged him briefly. ]

…

[ he nods again. ]

That’s why… I’m giving it to you. I don’t trust myself.

...Thank you, Dex. I'll take care of it.

[He tucks it into his pocket now, and then pulls out another one to show him.]

I've got this one, too. It's a little different. I can tell who brought back a color of something... three times. I can't figure out how it might be of any use to me, yet, so I'm hanging onto it. If you think of anything, you can let me know.

But that memory one... that's something to use in an emergency. [Like, in the instant that Shinya or someone else heard they had died, or figured it out. God.]

[ it’s a much nicer reward than the one dextera got—it’s sinister, really, for someone like him. he’s got so much to think about with his memories, and after everything he saw, from himself and others, it’s hard not to feel like it would be merciful to erase something. ]

You’ll be better with it.

[ he does pick up the ring that guren is showing him now, though, examining it. what use is finding out who’s responsible for the color? three times doesn’t seem like enough to get information from. ]

I don't know about that. I sacrificed the world, you know.

[They're both apocalypse causers. But he'll gladly hold onto it... and so that's all he says, glancing at the new ring, instead.

All this ring talk has him thinking about the third ring in his pocket, but.]

I can't figure out what importance it might have. Specific people are responsible for specific colors of items? Why does it matter? Until then, that ring is useless.

[ guren goes on about the ring, but dextera wants to take a few steps back and address the fact that he sacrificed the world, and how that doesn’t mean he can’t be trusted with the power to erase one single memory. right? guren is responsible.

he passes the ring to guren once more. ]

You’ll do the right thing. [ he says, and although it’s toneless, it’s a little slower—like he’s trying to reassure guren, but also like he’s testing him. ]

[ Will he? Or will he disappoint Dextera like he’s disappointed so many others? Guren drops the ring back into his pocket and lets his hand stay there, fingers brushing the smooth, useless ring still in there. ]

I’ll keep it with me. [ He doesn’t say anything more than that back, tilting his head slightly. ] Was there anything else on your mind? You seem tense.

[ is it the brother stuff still? Is he reading too much into it? Is there actually nothing? He wants to be sure ]

[ dextera doesn’t push it, even if he should. he’s still feelings raw from everything with his brother, and even the days before—he wants to believe the best in guren, so he does. doubting him feels wrong. ]

[ he didn’t think guren would directly ask him about things, though, for some reason. he deflects. ]

Thank you… for making me talk to my brother.

[ luckily for Dextera, the topic and the wording keep Guren from chasing that. ]

I didn’t want to make you feel like you were being forced. [ He rubs the back of his neck ] But I didn’t want you to have to decide at the last minute, either. Following me... isn’t easy.

It is easy.

[ the simplest thing dextera has ever done, actually—but what’s easy isn’t always right, and dextera is still trying to figure out if what’s hard is what’s right, either. that’s something for another day. as things are right now, like guren asked, if a way home showed up tomorrow… he’d go with guren.

that’s the easy choice. ]

[ Guren frowns at that, glancing down a little. It’s not easy. He worries that Dextera doesn’t know what he’s getting into if he thinks that it is, but he doesn’t want to end up scaring him away, either. Instead, the hand still in his pocket finally pulls out of it, holding something. ]

There’s one more ring.

[ He holds it out for Dextera. Silver, sleek, intricate but not gaudy. ]

[ dextera takes this one too, careful, because he doesn’t know if it’s dangerous or if it’s something a little milder. of course his first impression, in this context, is to assume it’s one with powers, still.

he glances up at guren, questioning. ]

[ Now that it’s in his hand, he can see that there’s a purple gemstone in the ring, but it’s still nothing near the blue chunky one he had shown earlier. ]

As soon as I put it on, curry appeared in front of me... I guess it was triggered the one time automatically and used up. So, it doesn’t do anything, but I wasn’t sure if you’d want it since it has some color...

[ He’s not looking at Dex, but that’s fine. It’s pretty? He doesn’t know!! ]

[ a useless ring, for nothing in particular, with a pretty purple gemstone in the middle that of course reminds him immediately of guren’s eyes…

all that doubt and worry from before vanishes instantly, as zelda’s teasing words suddenly flare in the back of his mind. it’s a ring. guren’s not proposing or anything, he’d be stupid to think that, but it’s a pretty ring, and they were just talking about dextera running away with him, and it’s just—a moment. it’s a moment.

his cheeks turn pink, and he nods. he likes it. ]

Then... it’s yours.

[ Guren glances back to check on him with that nod, and seeing his pink cheeks make his own turn the slightest color. He breathes out and then leans in to kiss the corner of his mouth. ]

Everything will work out. We’ll both be there making sure it does, so don’t forget that. If you look at that ring, I want you to remember that. We’re together. We can make things work out.

[ And glancing away, hhhh ] That’s all.

[ dextera is simple. he’s so quickly moved on from everything they just talked about, even if that wasn’t guren’s intention—memory troubles, trustworthiness, all of it. right now, he has guren exactly as the person he feels safe and secure with, and it’s impossible to imagine anything different. the ring in his hand is warm, from being in guren’s pocket. ]

…

[ he nods again, a little more emphatic, and puts the ring in his own pocket before leaning forward to kiss guren more fully on the mouth. ]

Both. You said both.

[ a reminder, so… don’t do anything stupid with that memory ring, guren. ]

[Ah... he's worried? That might be fair. It did cross his mind that Dextera may be better off without him. But, that's far more than a single memory anyway, and he wouldn't dare do it when he's so selfish.

Not unless he had to, anyway.

The kiss is nice, and his fingertips brush past Dextera's cheek and into his hair so he can kiss him back.]

Both. That's what I said. [That's what it'll have to be. He wants it, more than anything else.] ...Do you have to leave?

[ dextera shakes his head.

he didn’t expect guren to ask, when they’ve never really just walked away from something like this. when they meet up, it’s usually for good, isn’t it? their plans are locked with each other.

it’s just, his scar… ]

I’ll stay.

Thanks.

[It was a request. It was the closest thing he could get to "please stay and sleep with me" or "I need you". He wants company. He wants this company. His hands move lower, resting at Dextera's hips and tugging him a little closer. Even if they're together so often, it never feels like enough.]

We could use the quiet.

[ guren’s hands are at his hips. the side that his scar is on is a strange temperature, though muted by the fabric of his clothes. it’s simultaneously cold and hot, too cold and hot.

dextera seems strangely tense because of the way guren is touching him now. he nods in agreement and tries to pretend it’s just fine. ]
