Who: Guren, Dextera, Sinistra
Where: Guren's house
When: 9/1 evening
What: The worst family dinner ever. Jk Guren makes the twins some food because they're eating machines and he's trying to be good.
Warnings: None?? I think?? This is wholesome. Probably.
[It had taken long enough to feel up to this emotionally, let alone figuring out what he was going to make. But finally, he decides that he's ready. He sends a simple message just to Dextera:
I want to show you and your brother something, so bring him over to my place tonight if you can. Don't eat for the night before you come.
After that, it's waiting and preparation. He'd gotten a few different suggestions, so he has a little meal planned now. Pork simmered with apples and radishes (the latter he'd decided to throw in after a taste test or two), and simple riceballs on the side, shaped very carefully— they're just rice filled with some tuna. There's some milk, too. He went on a whole adventure for this stuff, honestly.
He's waited for the others in his house to be done eating, so now the table is set for three, and he's just finishing up that pork dish, with the riceballs already on the table with the milk. If either of them knocks, Guren calls out.]

You can come in.

just kidding, guren doesn’t need to guess, because he’s the one who invited them both. it’s a weird, tense thing, but dextera trusts whatever guren has planned. it’ll be okay, won’t it? ]
…?
[ one hand is occupied, because he’s holding his brother’s, but he pushes open the door with his other to see what’s going on. he already smells food. ]
no subject
But he's weak to his brother, so he goes along with him, holding his hand and being more silent than usual. He's being a bit bratty and he knows it. Unfortunately, he doesn't care. ]
no subject
[Guren tosses a head over his shoulder. From the door, the kitchen is to the right, ugly and green as always. Guren is wearing his uniform pants and his buttoned up undershirt, but he's got some sort of an apron he found on, too. It's greyish from a lack of color, but it functions, so he doesn't care.
He's lifting a pan out of his fireplace-stove, and the smell is nice, at least. He's cheated and practiced this more than a few times. (Extra effort... he'll never admit it.)]
You can sit at the table. This is just about done. [Of course he's not going to spell out that he's trying to help them experience food...]
no subject
…
[ guren is here, though, and that’s a weird extra dimension to this whole thing. feeling oddly nervous, dextera squeezes his brother’s hand, and ushers him to sit first. although guren wouldn’t be able to hear it, if he communicated with his brother like this, dextera remains oddly silent.
when they’re standing right next to each other, the differences are obvious, even just in the way they hold themselves. ]
no subject
He sits as directed and tugs on his brother's hand, not releasing it. He needs to sit, too. ]
no subject
I was just going to show you guys some real food, that's all. You can stop looking so tense about it.
no subject
[ now that it’s closer, dextera still doesn’t recognize all of the food, but he can see all of guren’s hard work. he doesn’t let go of his brother’s hand yet, still holding it under the table, but at least he’s sitting now. ]
You made this?
[ he’s relaxed a bit. ]
no subject
He glances at his brother and lets him take the 'talking' role. ]
no subject
[He hates admitting it, but he has to, apparently, to get it across. The apron wasn't enough? He finishes serving food to all three plates and sets the pan aside before coming up on both of their chairs, a hand on the back of each one.]
Come on. You'll need both hands to eat, so can you stop that for five minutes? I invited you guys so you can try something new together.
[With an exasperated sigh, he drops his hands away from the chairs and moves to sit at his own.] There's riceballs, too. [A gesture to those, already set up in the middle of the table.]
no subject
dextera looks to sinistra for a moment, more pained than he thought he’d be at the idea of letting go of his hand, but ultimately he knows that hunger is going to win out for both of them. it’s a more involved process than it needs to be, but he pulls his hand away from his brother’s so that he can actually interact with the world again.
it’s a little like breaking a spell, and now he’s looking with more interest at the rice balls. ]
It looks really good.
[ he offers guren a wholesome smile, before taking one of the rice balls from the plate—and, of course, immediately offering it to his brother, held out like he wants sinistra to take a bite from it in his hands. ]
no subject
But his brother lets go so he has to accept it. He puts his hands in his , holding back from the food stubbornly despite a genuine trail of drool seeping out of the corner of his mouth as the smell of the food hits him.
He only concedes to eating when Dex offers him a bite of his rice ball. Without moving his hands, he leans over and takes a restrained bite of it.
He offers a small hum of approval at the taste. It's the most he will offer. ]
no subject
[Guren leans over his edge of the table, picking up his own riceball so he can take a bite. His eyes move from Dextera to Sinistra, and if he has any thoughts on them feeding each other like that, he doesn't voice them.
Instead:]
You. [No one has told him Sinistra's name, so he just gestures his rice at him.] Take it as an apology for kicking your ass before. You don't have to look so sour about it.
no subject
[ sorry, no one told him that guren kicked his brother’s ass. it’s the kind of thing that dextera should have been privy to long before now, and he does wonder what in the world the purpose could have been?
the pit doesn’t occur to him. ]
Sinistra.
[ dextera signs out his brother’s name for guren’s benefit, but he’s also giving him a look across the table like what ]
no subject
I'm no good at fighting, but I don't like to lose. I don't... need an apology for a planned match, though. Still--
[ He points to the plate of pork. ]
If you hurt Minato again, I'll turn you into this. I will eat you myself. I have no qualms about it.
no subject
Sinistra. [ He repeats Dextera, and honestly he should have known he’d pick a matching name. ] Minato is family to me. The whole purpose of that pit was to knock each other out, so take it easy. He doesn’t hold it against me.
[ A glance to Dex. ] It was the pit quest. I took out him, Minato and Mutsu in one go when it became obvious I was fighting them and not something else with them.
no subject
…
[ the stupid pit quest… mutsunokami got him in that, at least. ]
Don’t fight.
[ dextera tells that to both of them with a little sigh, and he replaces the rice ball with a forkful of pork and apple. take it, brother, and stop threatening dextera’s boyfriend. ]
no subject
He nods at his brother and, before he can start pulling off a piece of meat to share with him, he sees the bite of food offered to him in front of his face. He leans and takes it off the fork. He chews it slowly as he does any food he's trying for the first time. ]
no subject
[Another bite of his riceball as he watches them try it. Or, Sinistra try it, right now. Eat it too, Dex...]
If he doesn't, he'll leave all that hate for me pent up and it'll have to come out later. After all, I'm not going anywhere, so he's gonna have to get used to it.
How's the food?
no subject
[ dextera starts to reassure guren that sinistra doesn’t hate him, but honestly, the second half of that sentence is a little embarrassing. a lot embarrassing. dextera can’t shove something in his mouth to avoid responding to it, so he does the next best thing and double-fists a forkful of his own pork and the bitten rice ball to occupy his hands. ]
…
[ he nods, quickly. it’s good, and he’s not just saying that. ]
no subject
That's right. He has to share. He has to share, doesn't he?
Suddenly, for once, he's not so hungry. ]
no subject
no subject
He doesn’t mean anything by it. So you should keep eating.
[ like an attentive parent, more than a younger brother, dextera places the rice ball he’d been working on, onto his brother’s plate. then, trying to push away that tension, he looks back to guren. ]
Can you show us… how to make these?
[ not the pork, obviously, but the rice balls… seem easy, don’t they? ]
no subject
He doesn't let go of his coat, though, as if holding onto it will maintain their bond by itself. He reaches up to his plate with his free hand and moves the riceball back to his brother's plate. He speaks softly. ]
No, brother, this is yours. I have enough.
[ He then moves back to his plate to pick at the food with his fingers in silence, picking off chunks of the pork and apples and shoving them into his mouth. He's got to behave, so silence is probably better on his part. ]
no subject
[It's a simple answer, and he glances up and between the two of them. He's close enough that he could reach and touch Dextera if he wanted, too, but he's not going to create that tension and confusion for him. He'll just sit here alone.]
You can take whatever you don't finish with you, if you want.
no subject
dextera takes the rice ball back when sinistra makes him, and he watches his brother as he puts it in his mouth until guren answers that question. then, he gently shakes his head, putting emphasis on the last word of his next sentence. ]
Can you show us today?
[ after the meal—a bonding activity, and then they can take it home. ]
