[CLOSED] Let's Talk about Brotherly Feelings
WHO: Kei and Okuya$u
WHERE: Somewhere in the outskirts of town
WHEN: Post event, late August
WHAT: Quest 20, let's talk about how friendship is magic
WARNINGS: Bros
[The quest was a strange one. Honestly, as they went on, Kei couldn't help but wonder why they were being given to them. Their purpose was clear, and they were giving them rewards, but why weighted on his mind. Was someone trying to teach them a moral lesson, or was their actions with an end purpose goal in mind? They were helping the town, but was the town really helping them? With the kidnappings and the tests, was it just some sort of grand social experiment in the end?
His thoughts were interrupted by Okuyasu's post. Of course he'd do something stupid, it came with who he was. Yet with the quest still on his mind, he realized that he had meant to speak to him about a few things anyway, quest or no quest.
So here he was, knocking at the other's door.]
It's me.

It's me.

no subject
C'mon in!
[And goes back to whoever he's typing total nonsense to online. He's sitting in what is basically the only room downstairs besides the kitchen, on the couch, with his laptop. Hey buddy.]
no subject
...he has half a thought about just going back home and forgetting all of this, but no. He just steps behind him and coughs.]
Could you please put that away? We could go talk somewhere instead. Outside of the house.
no subject
Sure? Hang on a sec— [he will not be kept from one last shitpost] What's wrong with inside?
no subject
[Doesn't look like he wants to answer that just yet.]
In case you were wondering, I'm not here to scold you.
[Because he now has a sneaking suspicion this is what the other is thinking.]
I had something to give to you, but I'd rather do it outside. It regards the sword training we've been doing.
no subject
[Is it a COOL SWORD??? He all but chucks his laptop onto the rickety coffee table as he gets up, suddenly much more energized. No scolding, and sword stuff?? Everything's coming up Okuyasu!]
Alright, let's do this!
no subject
You do suddenly seem a little better than before.
[Is it teasing, is it an observation, is it just Kei being Kei? It is a mystery.]
Perhaps closer to the forest would be the best place to do this. I'd rather this not be where there are others. [NOT BECAUSE HE CAN'T TALK ABOUT HIS FEELINGS IN PUBLIC it's just nice to speak when you know no one is going to interrupt you.
Well except the person you were talking to, anyway.]
no subject
[He's definitely upbeat, but there's an edge to it, of course; the kidnappings were stressful enough without abruptly losing Emma immediately after, and then to have multiple people lecturing him when he's totally fine...
Well, it's easier to get excited about swords. He's doing great.]
Lead the way, dude.
no subject
Follow me.
[He knows the other had said 'lead the way' but Kei couldn't just turn and not say nothing, it was just in his nature to do so. Captain Obvious, in other words. Finally when they reach the outskirts of the town he finally stops.
Alright, oddly enough now that they are here, he realizes that he hasn't practices this enough, or at least he's not quite sure how to explain himself.]
You have been, despite our differences and your actions when we first met...
[He stops. No that sounds too formal. Also possibly a bit insulting?]
...hmm...no let me start over. [Not that he as a choice.] It has been an enjoyable experience teaching you.
[Is that better? Hopefully that came out a little better. Why IS he struggling so much anyway?]
no subject
So Okuyasu isn't sure what to expect besides cool swords when they head out here, and what Nanjo does start saying is a little... odd?]
Are you bro-dumping me? 'Cause this sounds like the beginning of bro-dumping me.
no subject
I--what does that even mean?
no subject
[If he says "bro-dumping" enough times, Nanjo will instinctively know what he's talking about.]
no subject
[Okay he knew that Okuyasu was having issues with everything that had happened, but this was a little ridiculous, even for him.]
...why did you get the impression I would do that?
no subject
Nothing. Never mind. I'm just kinda...
[........]
So you wanna talk about swords?
no subject
Right.]
Perhaps a do-over is needed for the both of us.
[Swords. Sort of. He looks back at him again. Why is this so complicated? Oh. Because of the feelings involved.]
The past week has been incredibly tense for the both of us...perhaps more for you than for me. Considering everything that has happened, I wanted to take the time to congratulate you on your training and what we have done so far together. When I went into the forest the first time with Mister Sorey and...Mysterion [yeah] we ended up with a few items that could be useful later.
...
All of this to say I have been working on something to give you to commemorate your training since I feel you are getting to the point where a real sword would be absolutely vital. It is still a bit rusted, but I did my best to restore it's shine and sharpness as much as possible....and should it be not sharp enough, I believe your friend might be able to do a better work than me.
[That being said, it wouldn't be from Kei's own hands. As he's done, he presents it to him; it's as he said, slightly rusted but still pretty sharp. Kei has made a homemade sheathe out of torn piece of outfits. It's crude, true, but it clearly was made by him instead of getting someone else to do it.
And that, by itself, should mean something.]
no subject
Still, the actual sword is cool as hell, even if it's rusted - it's not like Okuyasu has a standard to compare it to, with only his dinky wooden sword on hand at any given time. He will most definitely take it eagerly--]
My friend-- who, Josuke? If he were still here, maybe.
[Ha, did he not mention that?? He mentioned that to like, Ochako, but never mind it. He gives the sword an experimental swing, just to hear it woosh and feel real cool. Awww yiss, fuck yeah...
Now, hmm, the sheath--] Aw, dude, did you make this?
no subject
I see. I apologize.
[Well. He had tried. Thankfully he seemed alright at least which was surprising, considering. Then again they were all having A Time, really.]
Well...yes. It's not exactly perfectly safe, I'm afraid.
no subject
And now he has this cool sword, so, things are looking up.]
It's a sword, man. No duh? [swish swish] I promise I'm gonna try not to cut my own hands off. You got my solemn oath.
no subject
I mean the sheath, not the blade, although I suppose that is dangerous as well. Maybe we can find someone that has better skill in wielding something proper for it than my attempts.
[He's pretty sure that the fact he did this at all would scandalize most of the Nanjo Corporation.]
So you are...pleased with it?
no subject
[It's A Compliment, but maybe he'll ask Dave for some sword stuff. Later.]
It's cool!
I'm sorry he's taking forever to get to the point.
[He's really bad at this, it's kinda pathetic, really. Eventually after a few more seconds of silence, he looks upwards into the sky.]
...I'll do everything in my power so I don't leave until you do.
[It's an empty promise, sure but, well, doesn't mean Kei won't try.]
he's tryin
It takes a moment for it to sink in; he lowers the sword to his side, brow furrowing.]
Yeah? [He can't really control that-- but it's a nice gesture.] For me?
he tried so hard and got so far and something something
[Well isn't that a little more casual than usual. Or he's just parroting the other's word.]
...
[...hold on he can do this...]
Your safety is important to me.
[He's getting there.]
no subject
Okay. [.......] I'm waiting for you to sound finished but you're not yet, right?
[This is technically still interrupting, but it's different!!]
no subject
[Okuyasu, please. With a little huff, Kei crosses his arms briefly, before sighing.]
...I just wanted to say you're important to me. I'm proud how much you've grown in a short time.
[To his credit, he fights up the urge to say 'although your maturity has stayed about the same'.]
no subject
In a minute.]
Oh. Well... y'know, thanks. [ahem] This is gonna sound off topic, but did I tell you a lot about my brother?
sorry I got dragged off to test a VPN connection after the joke tag
Not really, no. Just that he exists, truthfully.
no subject
Well, he's dead, but whatever, he had it coming. [so] He was my brother, y'know? But he was a real bastard... All I ever got outta him was shit like, "Okuyasu, you're so dumb and useless," and "Okuyasu, you're such a burden, I oughta leave you behind"— I don't really get it, I mean, he was supposed to... [He trails off with a shrug, because "he was supposed to take care of me" sounds too whiny. Hmm.]
Anyway, I guess what I'm saying is, if I gotta pick a big brother, even if you're a real pain in the ass sometimes, I'd probably pick you over him.
Okuyasu is too pure
A person who he didn't know, but just from the way he seemed to lower the other, not exactly someone he'd be friendly with if he met. Before he'd gone on about 'anyways', Kei would have been the first to tell him that family wasn't everything. He didn't even know the birthday of his own parents and could care less about them.
There's a pause because honestly, he's both quite touched and also unsure what to say. The last bit completely flies over his head like a typical insult.]
I...see...
[It's not quite how he normally behaves, the other will quickly notice. His voice is shaking, and he's trying to look away a little. The weather sure appears to be misty around them today...give him a minute.]
Nanjo.....
Oh. Ohhhh--]
Dude, are you crying?
What...look don't judge him too hard.
[He doesn't answer at first but then says in a much more controlled tone;]
I was told crying was a sign of weakness, something to be loathed for the heir of the Nanjo corporation.
[He takes off his glasses before removing a handkerchief from his pocket and cleaning running it against his eyelids before placing them again.]
Funny...today I don't seem to think it is at all.
naaaannnnnnnnjjjjjjoooooo
C'mon, if you get all weepy then I'm gonna do it too! [SO LAME............]
no subject
[Do you want his handkerchief Okuyasu because Kei is handing it to him.]
I never really had family apart from Yamaoka...it is nice to have someone like you here. Despite all the trouble of this world has given us, I am glad to be part of it.
no subject
I never really had anybody that was really looking out for me, I guess. Not 'til I met Josuke. [And Josuke disappeared from Chroma, so that's going great. He just sighs and moves on from that.] I dunno, man, I guess it's not too bad here?
