ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. [Unhesitatingly flipping the bag on one shoulder to his front to produce a sketchbook.] This is all, I'm afraid. But I wouldn't have been pleased if a canvas had been with me when I was in that well.

[He sniffs and flips open the sketchbook to offer it to Dave.

There's a multitude of things... still life, moving life, definitely abstract sketches and concepts, though it's a relatively new sketchbook so there's not much yet.]

[ i'm assuming yusuke is an actually good artist, and dave is flipping through the sketchbook carefully and pretty slowly, clearly actually looking at the art? ]

[he's good at arts, for reals. Yusuke lets him have a look, a little pleased Dave's taking his time.]

I do. And I am always interested in learning and exploring other mediums of art.

I draw, but like, my main art shit is - music and [ a pause ] photography? I mean, I like to think I am decent at it. It's been a while since I've really had access to a dark room and everything.

[ he finds he actually misses it, especially after seeing some of his early (stupid) attempts again.

he flips another page, and he's careful to turn by the edges and not touch the sketches themselves. ]

Ah, you develop your own photos? I've heard it can be quite the process to assure that they do develop properly.

[It's nice to talk to a fellow artist and Yusuke's pretty obviously interested in the use of unfamiliar mediums.]

Yeah, yeah I do. My closet back home used to be a makeshift darkroom? And I was honestly crap at developin' them the first few times. I ruined a roll of film, made a lot of mistakes - but I like to think I got better at it as I learned?

As is the way with most forms of art. One will never start off producing perfect things... and mistakes will teach you far better than anything else will.

Well, yeah. I don't think there's even a "perfect" thing to produce? I mean. There is perfect for that time, the when and where you are, but then later on you like...learn and grow, presumably, and you can do better or different later on. Different-growing, maybe not better in the sense of worth, but in the sense of skill?

Precisely.

[He nods emphatically.]

I highly doubt perfection even exists. It is all a manner of perspective. Someone may think what you make is perfect, but the next person may not think so in the least. Same with yourself--the perfect to your past self will be different from the perfect for your future self.

That is what makes making and consuming any kind of art so fascinating.
