Intro Log.

Ding, dong, bell,
Pussy's in the well.
Who put her in?
Little Johnny Thin.
Who pulled her out?
Little Tommy Stout.
What a naughty boy was that,
To try to drown poor pussy cat,
Who never did him any harm,
But killed all the mice in the farmer's barn.

ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.

It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb.

The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find.

But most importantly of all... you're not alone.

Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out.

Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways.

Further information can be found here at the OOC post, and don't forget to greet your fellow players here!

[ Teasing or not, Akechi has a chronic case of people-pleasing, and the scolding takes precedence over any good jest in Lupin's words. ]

A-ah, my apologies. [ A bow of his head. ] I didn't think this building was inhabited-- nowhere else seems to be.

[ But wait. There's something else he said that really catches Akechi's attention: ]

Yes, that is indeed what that machine is called. Have you really never seen one of those before?

[ Could this guy be a native? ]

Well, inhabited is a strong word... Anyway, don't worry about it. You just startled me a little.

[ he'd just wandered in here and found this machine turned on and actually responding to his inputs, unlike some of the other ones he found. Lupin's not great with machines; he was wishing Impey was here, too, but it looks like he might have found someone else to help him. ]

I've never seen anything like it. What's it for, exactly?

[ Akechi nods in acknowledgement of Lupin's words, with a smile for added pleasantry. ]

It has plenty of functions, actually. [ It's still strange that this guy doesn't know what a laptop is in this day and age, but hey, it gives Akechi a chance to show off his knowledge. ] I was planning to use them to contact help, but it seems all we have available is a local forum. I could show you, if you'd like.

[ Plus, that means he could finally browse the forums by himself, since he has yet to find his own laptop. ]

Please. I hate to admit it, but I'm not getting very far on my own.

[ Lupin gives a playful half-bow to Akechi, then takes a step or two back from the laptop, inviting him to take a look. He's a smart guy - he can tell that the keypad is obviously for entering letters and numbers onto the display being shown on the upper panel, but the touchpad and general basic knowledge of what a forum is and how it functions are escaping him. It looks like he managed to scroll halfway down the page and type into the address bar, at least... ]

I'm Lupin, by the way. And you are?

I'm Akechi. Pleased to meet you, Lupin-san.

[ And once he's allowed access, Akechi moves in to give the laptop a quick but thorough inspection; it doesn't look much different from his own back home, and it seems functional, if severely lacking in options. ]

Now, this is a touchpad. You use your finger to move that arrow across the screen. [ He proceeds to demonstrate, taking the arrow to the address bar, then quickly entering the url he had discovered earlier: ] I see you have figured out how to type, so just add this address and then press Enter, like so...

[ And voila! The forum is on display, though there isn't a whole lot to be seen. ]

The pleasure's mine, Akechi.

[ It's nice to meet someone well-mannered here - though he can hardly blame the others for feeling edgy, given the circumstances. While Akechi works, Lupin peers over his shoulder. So that's how you get that arrow to move...

It doesn't actually seem too complicated to use. The how is easy enough, but the why might be more obscure. ]

What's all that?

[ the forum. At the moment, the only posts there are Keith's and Vriska's - not that he can tell, since there's nothing but black hexadecimal codes. ]

These? They are forum posts. Messages that are available to anyone with network access.

[ Brief explanation out of the way, Akechi proceeds to quickly scan the contents currently displayed. There are only two posts, and not a lot of new information to gather from them - though it might be worthwhile to give the comments a more thorough read once he has his own laptop. ]

It is unfortunate, but it would seem these people don't have any new information. [ A sigh, and suddenly his features take on a far more serious expression, brows closely knit together. ] But why go through the trouble of facilitating communication between us? I don't get it...

[ Sorry, this kid has a bad habit of getting lost in thoughts and occasionally speaking to himself. Like right now. ]
heartsteals: (a hard eight)

[personal profile] heartsteals 2018-03-21 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ it's a good thing Lupin is quick on the uptake; the entire notion of this kind of invisible message network is new to him, but he can at least grasp the general idea of what's being said. It's some sort of bulletin board that can be accessed through the laptop, somehow. It's also a good thing that he's used to being around people who have a tendency to think out loud - Akechi's commentary is honestly comforting, if anything. All the better to help come up with a plan. ]

So you think "these people" are like us - the others who woke up in the well? I guess that would make sense. We seem to be the only ones in town.

[ without the concept of a 'world wide web,' it makes sense, anyway... ]

It's an easy way for us all to share ideas. Anonymously, too, it appears. Perhaps there's some mystery they want us to solve together here?
