Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. | |
ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.

[ Their snappy response comes out like they think it is clear as day what they are - when you come from a planet where there's really only one sentient life form, being mistaken as anything else really catches you off guard. ]
I don't - I don't even know how I 'm talking to you. We should not be able to communicate. [ The way they talk is very much in a you're the weird one here, not me way. ] Maybe I've just finally lost my mind from lack of sleep...
[ This is just too much to be woken up from hibernation for - discovering other sentient life? At least their aggression gets replaced with a unique brand of sulkiness, one of their hands coming to hold their forehead out of sheer stress. ]

[ Lupin peers at this supposed rock through the gloom. Sure, it's fairly dark down here, but there's no mistaking that he's looking at some sort of human. They're even putting their hand on their head like a human. ]
I have to say the last one I met was much more charming. [ rude... but he says it with a sort of smile to his voice, as if he's telling an inside joke. ] Well, monsieur gemstone, we seem to be communicating just fine. Perhaps we can work out the details once we're out of this hole.

And how do you suppose we're going to do that? [ Gems could jump quite high, since fighting Lunarians meant fighting airborne most of the time, but Cairn was well versed in climbing on ice, not bricks. They're not even sure there's anything to hold onto once they get up there, and a little slip could be dangerous. ] Given how soft you are, you'll break if you slip while climbing.
[ They'll peer out from between their fingers at the other, looking more stressed than angry for the moment - they're trying to figure out a path that will benefit both of them. ]

the sheer bluntness of this "gem's" words get a snort out of Lupin, if nothing else - they're just too straightforward to be offended by. He almost wants to take them seriously about being a rock. ]
Oi, don't you think you're underestimating me a little? My climbing skills are second to none, I'll have you know. Besides, if I fall, I'm sure I can count on your gentle arms to catch me.
[ playful sarcasm - but he reaches out and manages to get a hand on the wall nonetheless. ]

Fine. But don't complain that it's cold.
[ Is all they mutter before crouching down a bit so they can properly boost him up by wrapping their arm around his legs and standing to their full height. It's a pleasant surprise how easy it is to boost the other up - when you're used to throwing around other gems that could weigh 400-500 pounds, one little human is like nothing. get those gains
Once they've hoisted him up, they tilt their head up so they can issue a warning that's directly relevant to the joke: ]
I'm not catching you if you fall, [ half because they want to seem like a hardass and half because they're somewhat worried their quartz body will be less forgiving on a mortal than this plain stone floor?? ] so you better not screw up.

[ gemstone or not, he wasn't expecting to be lifted up quite so easily; if it weren't for his excellent sense of balance, he might have fallen over right then and there. Which would have been really embarrassing, frankly, so it's good it doesn't happen. He braces himself against the stone wall of the well; thankfully, it's less wet higher up, although not much. He'll take what he can get when it comes to climbing a flat surface. ]
Your worry warms my heart, but Arsène Lupin doesn't screw up. No need to fear! [ trained fingers feel out a seam in the bricks just big enough to give him leverage, and he pulls himself up out of Cairngorm's hands. One step down... more to go. ] But I have to say, you're much stronger than you look!
