ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.

It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb.

The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find.

But most importantly of all... you're not alone.

Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out.

Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways.

[... That sounds so cool, damn. Has he met a real live hero like this...?

(Like...a superhero?)

Either way, Minato nods quietly, reaching out to take her hand willingly.

(He still is... not actually expecting to start to float, so this is going to be an Experience.)]

[Making sure all five fingertips are touching his skin, she lifts her free hand to her own shoulder and quickly activates her quirk. Ta-daaa! They are now... gently drifting upward, and Ochako tries very hard to ignore that familiar sinking sensation in her stomach as she gives his hand a reassuring squeeze.]

It's not so bad, right? [Says the girl who's probably going to wind up sick as a dog by the time they reach the top. But hey, it's a slow ascent, so she knows that she needs to stay as positive as possible.] I'm Ochako, by the way. And you?

[Talk to her... help distract her from the nausea...]

[Holy cow.

They're...legitimately floating.

It's... actually happening. They drift upwards in such a gentle way and Minato blinks slowly to himself. Really, in terms of weird things he's seen, this is barely up there and yet...

This girl apparently can make people float. OKAY...]

Ah. [Focus, Minato. He blinks, shaking his head a little, and focuses back on her.] I'm Minato. It's... nice to meet you...?

[He means it really is nice to meet her, but this is kind of puzzling, forgive him.]

[Finally, a reaction! And it's actually enough of one to make her laugh, because, well, giving introductions in midair is a little strange, isn't it? He just looks and sounds so puzzled by it all.]

Sorry! It really is nice to meet you, too! [She chokes back the rest of her laugh, aware that it might be a little rude. And also it's probably... not a good idea to giggle when you're steadily getting more and more nauseous.] But this is a little weird, isn't it? You probably had no idea what I was talking about at first.

[Success in drawing a reaction out of the stoic! It only took casually breaking the laws of gravity.]

It's fine... [Are you okay, Ochako.] But honestly...

[Honestly...]

If you're really asking, I still don't know what you were talking about.

[Quirks? Heroes? Now they're flying?]

But this is...pretty cool.

[She will definitely be better once they're both out of this well and she's free to take a looooong breather, but she's rather proud at the way she's holding up thus far. They're halfway there and she's only looking slightly green around the edges! Her training is finally paying off!]

You really think so? ["This is pretty cool" = "your quirk is pretty cool," right? That is definitely a sudden surge of pride she's feeling.] My quirk is pretty useful in rescue situations. That's why I want to be a--

[Oh, right. This is all Brand New™ to him, just like it was Brand New™ to others. Maybe she should roll it on back.]

Have you never met someone with a quirk before?

[Her quirk is pretty cool!! Even if yeah, he still has no idea what a quirk is at all. He's starting to figure out "quirk" = "superpower" of some sort but...]

No, I haven't...but--

[A vague tilt of his head as he inspects her face. It's hard to tell with how they're floating, but--]

Are you okay? [He thinks she's maybe looking a little green around the edges.]

[OOPS. Obviously she's not as good as hiding her discomfort as she initially thought. How embarrassing! Color rushes to her cheeks, and she tries to literally wave away his concern.]

Me? Oh, I'm fine! Really! It's--

[--nothing, she's about to say, but what's the point in lying? He's obviously pretty astute, so she finally settles for giving him a slightly sheepish shrug.]

It's just... motion sickness. It always happens when I make myself float, but I'll be okay.

[People needing help > her own comfort, anyway.]

[In truth...he does think that's pretty heroic. Putting aside her own discomfort for other people's sakes...]

Ah, I see...

[What a rough power to have alongside motion sickness... Unfortunate.]

Well... I appreciate your help even more, then. Thank you for helping me like this. [He'd bow his head--and he tries--but it loses something a bit when they're like.

Floating.]

[Unfortunate, indeed. But you play the cards you're dealt, and that's why she simply flashes him a warm smile in appreciation of his thanks. The kindness of others definitely makes this whole situation a bit more bearable! Why, it's almost enough to make her ignore the sweat suddenly beading on her brow.]

It's no problem. We're all in this together, so we should do our best to look out for each other!

[Their surroundings are definitely a bit lighter than they'd been a few minutes ago, and she glances up to see the opening a few short feet above them. Finally. She can hold it together for just a little bit longer...!]

I'm going to let go of your hand, okay? As soon as you can, grab onto the edge of the well and pull yourself over it. I'll release my quirk when we're both out of here.

[OCHAKO... he's getting more concerned here, she really doesn't look okay at all...!! And if she throws up, is it going to fall on all of the people beneath them? Will they start to fall? There are so many variables here.

But he can respect her focus and determination, at least so when she gives him those instructions he shifts his concerned gaze from her face to focus instead on the opening.]

Got it. [He nods firmly, and:] I'm ready.

[So please don't die...

And true to his word, as soon as the ledge is there, he reaches out to grab it, hauling himself out of the well easily enough; he's athletic enough to manage that much, at least.

And immediately he turns to make sure that she also got out of the well.]

[She's not very far behind him! Hoisting herself over the lip of the well, she checks to make sure he's over safe ground before quickly pressing her fingertips together and releasing her quirk.]

We made it! [Standing is just too much effort for the time being, so she's just going to land right on her butt and stay there. And lo, Minato, there is your friendly neighborhood hero, probably looking like a slightly hot mess as she closes her eyes, tilts her head back, and lets out a looooong sigh of relief. But at least there isn't any vomiting?] It wasn't so bad this time, either. What a relief...

[Cracking her eyes back open, she turns back to check on her new friend. She's been up her before, but he... definitely hasn't, and it must be quite a shock.]

How are you holding up?

[You know, that's fair. He doesn't blame her for that in the least, and is honestly more concerned with the fact that she's plopped over (the general appearance of everything else will sink in soon enough).

So he's frowning slightly at her in concern, head tilted to one side.

She seems okay...]

Oh... I'm fine. Thanks for helping me out of--

[Oh.

Now he lifts his gaze, and processes...everything. The lack of color. The decrepit surroundings.

To his credit, though, there's only a beat of silence, and then he finishes his sentence, if... distractedly.]

... out of there...

[What.]

[That is a surprisingly calm reaction? Which shouldn't be much a surprise, given how completely relaxed he was about the whole floating-up-the-well thing, but still. Still. She keeps a careful eye on him, just in case he completely loses it or something spooky like that. It's the calm ones you need to watch extra carefully...]

I'm sorry that I didn't warn you beforehand, but I thought it would be best to tackle one thing at a time. [Even though he's doing SO WELL. She's just going to begin the low process of clambering back to her feet as he checks everything out.] Plus it's... a little hard to explain.

[Not untrue, better keep an eye on this one, Ochako.

Minato, for his part, takes a long, long moment to look around, processing his surroundings as best he can. He's seen some very, very weird things in his lifetime, but this is...not what he was expecting.

(Well, honestly, what was he expecting?)

Slowly, he tucks his hands into his pockets, head tilted slightly as if puzzling it out from another angle will make it make more sense.]

... It's okay. I don't think I'd know how to explain this either, so... [Of course she didn't.] It's pretty weird, isn't it?

[Understatement.]

[She's adding him to the steadily growing list of people she needs to Check Up On. Some of y'all are worrying her...]

Definitely. I've never seen anything like it before. [Now back on her feet and looking... slightly improved, she reaches down to dust the weird gray dust from her costume.] If you go exploring, please be careful. The only people I've seen have been people from the well, but there's no telling what may be out there. And maybe try to find someone to come with you? I would, but--

[She gestures back to the well, shrugging slightly.]

I think there are still a lot of people down there who need help.

[That's good advice, and he's nodding along easily enough. She really does seem like some sort of...well, it sounds silly, but a professional hero, really, just like she said.

Making sure that he's okay, that he doesn't do anything dumb now that she's helped him like this...

He nods, offering up a quiet:]

I'll be fine, don't worry. I'll be really careful.

[And...admittedly, there's not a lot he's too afraid of or concerned with anymore. More importantly, though:]

Are you going to be okay doing that more?

[She starts slightly at that question, suddenly wondering how sickly she actually looks. How many trips up and down the well has she made now? ...A lot, honestly. Her stomach is definitely unhappy with this whole situation, but Ochako is just going to do what she always tries to do: grin and bear it.]

I'll be fine. Really! Some of my friends are helping people get out, too, so it shouldn't be too much longer until everyone is safe. [And then she can rest! Except not really, because getting people out is only the first step. But! There's no sense in worrying him even further!] We should help each other as best we can, right?

[Hm...!!

He understands the concept of overdoing it for the sake of everyone around you; that's what they have to do when it's down tot he wire, to help people.

But still...

...]

You're right. Okay... I'll try to help how I can too, then.

[But he won't try to stop her from doing her thing; instead, he nods to her briefly in thanks, and then he's wandering off? Okay sure.

He's not going far though--he has A Goal in mind, and true to what he would expect, there are cups (old and dusty and needing cleaning) and supplies in the houses nearby. He cleans up the cup and returns, and so when she comes back up with her newest tagalong, Minato will be chilling by the well, waiting.

And he'll offer her the cup.]

It's just water, but... at least it's clean.

[As in: from a source of water other than well water that everyone has been standing in.]

I didn't see any food that would settle well on an upset stomach though--sorry. [But if Ochako is helping everyone else, then someone else should be helping Ochako, right? Even if just in little ways.]

[Ochako makes sure to give him a little wave as he heads off into the grey-t unknown, a bit uneasy about seeing him walk away by himself but... well, there are plenty of people milling about up here, right? As quiet as he may be, he'll find someone. Hopefully. And so, after giving him one last look, she takes a deep breath and jumps back down the well.

It only takes a short time for her to pop up again, and she instantly spots his familiar face. Trouble, perhaps? Or maybe he's just waiting for more people to come up top? As nauseous as she is, she still shoots him a concerned look, ready to ask him if everything is okay--but then, of course, he hands her the glass of water, and her concern flies right out of the window.]

This--

[--is for me? She takes the offered cup, blinking up at him--and then quickly shaking her head as he continues. Not a great move for her nauseous self, but whatever.]

No, don't apologize! This is a huge help! [She shoots him a grateful smile, her brain finally catching up to these recent events.] Thank you, Minato. It was really kind of you to find this for me.

[RANK UP.]

[Really, Ochako is trying so hard--it wouldn't feel right to leave her alone to deal with all of this while he wanders off to explore the town. So he offers her a faint smile in return when she thanks him. She still looks nauseous but...

Hopefully it'll help at least a little.]

I should be the one thanking you, I think. Thanks for helping me out of there--and for helping everyone else, too, even though it's tough on you.

[In all honesty?]

That's a brave thing to do. [SOCIAL LINK ESTABLISHED hell yeah, off to a good start.]

[She opens her mouth, about to give him her usual spiel--"It's not that brave," or, "That's what heroes do!"--but then promptly closes it. It is a little tough on her, honestly, and so she's just going to give him a little nod and take a sip of her water.

...Which tastes so weird. This place is just the worst.]

R-Refreshing! [It's not a complete lie; it is nice and cool, so she'll just press it against the side of her face.] Was this easy to find? I haven't had a chance to go in the buildings yet, but I hope there's plenty of supplies in them. Enough for everyone...

[Oops... he'll figure it out for himself when he tastes the water too. So he just settles against the side of the well as well, tilting his head a bit.]

No, it wasn't that bad--but I think finding more supplies might be harder.

[Like...]

The house I went into had cups and things like that, and water stored away, but the only food I could find was...things in cans, or things that don't really go bad.

[And theoretically incredibly old, but maybe still edible...?]

We'll probably have to work pretty hard to find fresh food...

[R e g r e t. He could go for a burger right now AND THERE ARE NO BURGERS.]

[Taking a slightly longer-than-normal breather isn't a bad thing, she supposes. She has really been pushing it with her quirk. And this is enlightening, so it's not like she's really slacking!]

Maybe. But finding water is a really good first step! I don't think anyone will want to drink water they've been standing in. [She hums quietly in thought, sitting up a bit straighter to peer into the distance.] Plus when I was looking around earlier, I thought I saw trees in the distance. If it's a forest, we should be able to find something in it. There might be animals, too, but...

[She pulls a face, letting that sentence trail off as she takes another sip of the water. Please don't suggest killing them...]

[Much as he wants a burger, he is definitely a city boy pacifist with no interest in killing random animals living their lives for food.

SO AT LEAST...THERE'S THAT.]

... Maybe eggs? If there are chickens or birds. That could help with protein and things.
