ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. [Oh the Glorious. Which was a whole other bag of freaky she did not want to get into right now. She turns to Dave with a sheepish smile.]

Sure do. Have you ever used any sort of computer at all, or is this a lesson from the basics?

A computer.....? Oh! Yeah, I've used the Capel.

[She thinks she recalls that word, from the database. Add that to the slight visual similarity here, and you got a winner.]

....Are you saying this tiny thing is a computer?

Yeah, though not a very good one. Look...okay, here, this screen. Just type in your name, and then you can like, decide if you want to use a password or not?

[Dave can probably tell that she's really not used to computers from the fact that she taps at the keys slowly, one key at a time. 'Estelle Bright' fills the text box before she glances up at him.]

Just kind of hit enter here, and it should log you into the forum? It only seems to work with one laptop per person...kinda. Well, you can use any, but I think we can each only unlock one laptop...? And then whoever can use 'em if you don't password protect your shit. Which feels very gradeschool diary levels of security.

Oh.... so you need a password, then? And what's a forum?

[Estelle hits enter, and luckily enough, this is the laptop assigned to her, or they'd be going through this process like a dozen slow, painful times.

She stares at the screen, and it's.... definitely not a database like the Capel's.]

Yep. It's like...a message board. Do you have some kinda board where you post messages or flyers and people can reply? It's sort of like that, but on one device, and it sends the messages to anywhere another person also has a laptop, if that makes sense?

Oh! Like a bulletin board? Or the guild board. Though that's just jobs--

So this can communicate messages over long distanced by text? Like a letter, only through the laptop and to an entire group?

Yeah, exactly. Although it seems like the laptops don't work that far outside the houses, so. There is...that particular limitation, which sucks. Good way to keep in touch, though?

Mmmhm! And to share information in a way that's saved somewhere.

[That'd sure be useful, in the long term.... though hopefully not too long term. She still wanted to get home as soon as possible.]

But yeah, that's pretty much...how? Like, you get better at typing the more you do it, I promise. Usually. I guess they don't have typin' games here...

Like, ones where you have to solve math problems by typing letters as they hit and...stuff. I didn't really ever play them, admittedly, so this reference is kinda fallin' flat.

Well...I guess? I think more accurately it is like, parents and teachers tryin' to trick kids into learning is fun situations.

Eheheh.... we have things like this, but I've really only seen them at the factory in Zeiss and on the Arseille. And the Capel is way, way bigger....
