ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. A natural-born wordsmith, huh? You curse a little too much to be the next Keats. [ not that he cares but IT'S RUDE IN PUBLIC. ] Anyway, I'm well aware that the world isn't fair, but the world does tend to be logical. There's a reason these things are happening.

Yeah, maybe, but I could totally swing the next E.E. Cummings. A little profanity in prose never hurt anyone. [ but also: dave can't help himself ] Well, what's your best guess as to what would be logical here, dude?

[ Cummings? He hasn't heard of that one. It doesn't really matter, though. Right?! ]

I'm still not ruling out some kind of poisoning. Or maybe I'm hallucinating? That would explain a lot.

You mean, like, you would also be hallucinating me in this scenario?

That's the idea. I suppose it could be a mass hallucination, but those are supposed to be rare.

[ not that he solo hallucinates often, either ]

You seem way too Victorian to hallucinate someone like me?

[ this isn't a helpful line of conversation, dave?? ]

I can like, do a rap to prove I'm from a time of hellacious beats. [ ... ] Super regrettin' my use of the word hellacious there, let's pretend I didn't do that.

[ oh my god, he doesn't know what this kid is saying... is he old? no, he needs to slow down and try to consider the meaning of each word to figure out what he's saying. "Victorian" sounds like he's talking about England under Victoria's rule, which isn't entirely wrong - he's living there, even if he's French. And he mentioned "from a time." Rap? No idea? Hellacious beats? Even less of an idea - but to be fair, he doesn't seem to know what he meant, either.

Basically, Lupin is standing there staring at him with a mildly-judgemental look of confusion for a second or two. ]

... You're tempting me to take back what I said before about having a way with words. Are you trying to say you're from a different time period...?

Technically, April 2012. But Earth was destroyed in 2009, so I've spent the last three years bopping around on a meteor.

Destroyed? [ 2012?? Meteor?? Jesus. He gapes at him for a second, then brings a hand to his face, massaging his temples. ] I'm definitely hallucinating, aren't I? I've got to stop staying up late.

Nah. Home's just that fuckin' weird. Do you really think your brain would have the material for all this? If so, you probably really do need more sleep, and also possibly help?

[ he can't really deny the sleep thing, but. ]

Let's put my mental status aside for the time being... Are you suggesting there's time travel involved here?

[ this sounds completely insane, but... well, so did a girl who would melt your flesh if you touched her, and that happened. ]

Oh, there's always time travel involved when I'm involved? Like, that is my thing. But also, yeah, I think there are time shenanigans. You don't exactly scream 2009 to me, y'know?

[heartsteals]

That's more than a hundred years off, yes.

[ Lupin is doing a great job not panicking over this when part of him really wants to. This is outlandish. But this is just one person's word, for one thing. He still needs to assess the entire situation. ]

If it's "your thing," does that mean you know something about what happened?

Nah. I woke up here like everyone else, I just, like, am capable of time traveling. That said, I operate on a select set of rules so I don't end up with a bunch of Dead Daves, so it's functionally useless unless somethin' happens...also, I am trying to give it up.

Yeah. [ to being dave, and also a dead dave, UNFORTUNATELY. ] Dave Strider, specifically.

So, let me get this straight. You're a space traveller from the year 2012, after Earth has been destroyed, and you're also able to travel through time, but doing so ends up with you dying more often than not? Is that right?

[ he's gonna get a headache trying to figure out homestuck right now. ]

[ LUPIN...GIVE UP AND SPARE YOURSELF THIS!! ]

Well, if I'm careful it hopefully ends with me not dyin'. Dead Daves are, after all, the enemy.

[ IT'S TOO LATE...

Lupin stares at Dave for a good few seconds. Then, after a deep breath, he sighs a heavy, melodramatic sigh, his shoulders drooping. ]

So I'm supposed to accept all this on top of being kidnapped? I'm all for some excitement in my life, but this is a little too much...

If it helps I think my universe is really fuckin' weird also.

[heartsteals]

[ His universe. Right. He resists the urge to groan at that, and shakes his head, as if he can fling all these bizarre concepts out of his mind before they trouble him further. ]

We're in agreement there. But you sound like you might have a better idea of what's happening here than I do.

It'd be more accurate to say I am potentially more used to random bullshit - my estimation of the situation is "hey you got dragged into another random-ass place", really?

And... you don't have any idea how or why that happens? I'd even take a guess.
