ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light. It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb. The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. But most importantly of all... you're not alone. Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways. [ at least he can't judge izuku's hero clothes much since he's wearing magic pajamas. ]

[A totally non-judgement zone on outfits, apparently. After all, Izuku's probably seen much weirder things.]

You found a laptop? [That catches his attention instantly.] Have you tried using it yet?

Several, but only one really worked for me. It, like, has no internet connectivity though? So it's basically useless. Except it does have a shitty 90s internet forum on it, and mspaint. So, you know. There are pros and cons at play here.

[ mostly useless, but it contains two things dave unironically loves... ]

[Immediately, he deflates as his plans go right out the window.]

No internet... I guess it was too much to hope that we could use it to contact someone else outside of this place or look up where we even are.

[parodeity]

Well...if you want a bird's eye view ever, I can hook you up? But yeah, no, the internet option is straight up out. Probably because it would be too useful. Or because the weird Pleasantville government just censored the entire thing away.

[inheritance]

[A tilt of his head.] Bird's eye view... [It clicks a second later.] Wait, do you know someone who can fly?

[Because that's awesome.]

More like Creepyville. The grey look isn't exactly pleasant in any way.

[parodeity]

[ he points to himself. ] I can fly.

[ IT'S A THING. ]

And I meant the movie - you know, the one with the black and white world, and then kids from outside brought color back to it.

Really? [AND SUDDENLY, Izuku's smile is that much brighter and more enthusiastic.]

Does that mean you have wings? Or is it some kind of gravity manipulation quirk? Or wind manipulation? I've heard of people using wind that way...

[It's one question right after the other, with no signs of stopping. Sorry, Dave.]

[ THIS IS SO MANY QUESTIONS. he waits until there's a pause to breathe. ]

I just kinda fly. [ in demonstration, he simply floats up like, three feet, and shrugs. ] It comes with the territory. I do not manipulate wind or gravity, though I know a guy who happens to be in charge of wind manipulation.

[inheritance]

[Don't mind him circling around you excitedly, Dave, he's just trying to figure out how your powers work.]

Wow, you did that so easily. I have a friend who can manipulate gravity, but even she can't activate her quirk that smoothly yet. [He's sure she'll get there with lots of practice, though!]

[parodeity]

So a quirk is like a superpower? [ is what he's getting from the context, here. ]

[inheritance]

Yeah, exactly! [Wait...] You mean, you've never heard of powers being called "quirks" before?

[parodeity]

I never have, nah. I have heard people bein' called quirky, but that is a word mostly used for like, your great aunt Susan who wears handmade earrings and purple jackets and who likes to sign you up for cooking classes in hot air balloons.

[inheritance]

[He exhales unhappily. It's another point toward something that's been bothering him all day.]

In my world.. [He chooses that phrase deliberately.] Powers are called quirks. Since you aren't the first person who's asked about quirks, I'm guessing this situation's a lot more complicated than we first thought it was.

[A glance over at Dave to gauge his reaction.] Alternate realities?

[parodeity]

[ the poker face remains in place, so dave apparently is not remotely bothered by the separate worlds thing, or alternate realities. ]

Different realities, different universes - it's probably one of the two. I figured as much when I failed to recognize like, 90% of the people here.

[ look. he's used to everyone being the same, like, 50 or so people or variations thereof. thanks homestuck! ]

Superpowers aren't really a thing for most of the population back home for me, but players of the game usually acquire 'em. Or always had them, because the game is literally why they exist, and - ugh, I hate paradoxes? I hate paradoxes.

[That's...a lot to take in at once. Izuku blinks at him, trying to process it all. First thing's first--]

So I definitely wasn't just thinking too much about the different universes. I've read theories about them before, but I've never actually had any experience dealing with them. What about you?

[He suspects Dave's at least familiar with them, going by his lack of reaction.]

I've had to deal with a few. Technically, my universe was created by some assholes in another universe, and we then reset our universe because it went to shit, and then we were supposedly going to make, like, a fourth universe? Also, the universe of people who created our original universe were apparently also a reset universe.

[ ~*~*~ HOMESTUCK ~*~*~ ]

[Izuku stares because wow that's complicated? Also--]

You can create universes?

If you beat the Game - pretend I just made that, like, sparkly text in your mind or some shit - then yeah. It's kind of the point of the entire thing, apparently, although I personally think the point could also be said to be "drive everyone slowly insane, particularly Dave". I'm Dave, btw.

[ obviously he says the acronym aloud ]

[He has no idea how all of this works, but that's not stopping Izuku from feeling excited at just hearing about everything. Without thinking, he reaches behind him like he's about to grab something like, say, a certain notebook, before realizing that he doesn't have his backpack with him. His expression falls obviously.]

If I find a replacement notebook around here, can I ask you a bunch of questions about how things work where you're from?

[There's no mistaking the hopeful look on his face. Please, Dave, help a guy out here.]

Yeah, sure? [ IF...IF YOU REALLY WANT TO HEAR ABOUT HOMESTUCK, IZUKU...

I don't really mind, although you might find it weird. Hell, I find it weird.

That's okay! It's sort of a hobby of mine, collecting information about everyone's powers. And you're from another universe, so that makes it even more interesting!

[parodeity]

My powers are kinda bullshit.

[ HAVING SAID THIS, he drops back down to the ground instead of hovering, and shrugs. ]

But I think that is true of everyone with time related crap.

[inheritance]

You have time powers, too??

[Why didn't you mention this earlier???]

[parodeity]

I'm the Knight of Time, so yeah. [ he taps the big red gear design on the chest of his magic pajamas like that means anything. ] But I am thinkin' about giving it up for good.
