Intro Log.

Ding, dong, bell,
Pussy's in the well.
Who put her in?
Little Johnny Thin.
Who pulled her out?
Little Tommy Stout.
What a naughty boy was that,
To try to drown poor pussy cat,
Who never did him any harm,
But killed all the mice in the farmer's barn.

ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.

It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb.

The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find.

But most importantly of all... you're not alone.

Welcome to Awash's first intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. Characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out.

Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways.

Further information can be found here at the OOC post, and don't forget to greet your fellow players here!

It's...eerie, isn't it?

[Joshua probably heard Minato coming a mile away (he's not very stealthy and he's still kind of wet from the well), but that's fine. He approaches, hands tucked in his pockets still as he crouches next to Joshua and squints down at the water.]

Like...water doesn't have a color anyway, right? Not really. But this is just weird.
whereabout: was "things that cost $102.50" (my last google search of the night)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-16 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
[ He sure did hear him coming.

But that's fine with him, too. The footsteps aren't trying to hide themselves, they're not moving with the speed or the rhythm he'd expect from someone moving to attack. Between that and the oddity of their situation, he'd be quite surprised if whoever was coming turned out to be hostile.

So he doesn't move or even look back when he hears Minato coming. He's not worried - not about him, anyway. ]

I can't decide if there's more to it than that or not.
messianic: (With its own tints the sober grey.)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-16 04:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Thanks Joshua, glad he's not an immediate threat.

More importantly--]

What are you thinking..? [He's curious... he only has his own impressions, so maybe he can learn something new from Joshua's?]
whereabout: and left its corpse on the wall as a warning (i killed an earwig)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-16 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
[ The hand he's been scooping the water with flattens to let it drip back into the colorless mass. ]

I can't imagine what would do this to a place. But I don't think this is natural.

[ - well. He can imagine a few possibilities, but "someone used the Aureole to create a creepy town with no colors and drop a bunch of random strangers in together" seems far-fetched, even for the situation they're in now. He's not putting that forward as a theory unless he gets really desperate. ]
messianic: (Life crushed; the broken pail.)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-16 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
[It's definitely not natural, they can at least agree on that. Minato nods simply, sighing and staring down at the water a moment longer.

... Well.]

... We're here now. And all of us seem fine. [Colors and all!!]

So I guess... we should try to figure it all out. Just what happened here...and where everyone went.
whereabout: and i'm gonna bring my pocketknife with me (i'm taking a shower)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-16 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
They'd have to go far, I'm guessing. The roofs aren't a perfect vantage point, but I didn't see anything else that looked like civilization.

[ Very casual, because, you know. Climbing the roofs. It's just a thing we all do. ]

I doubt we'll find anyone without going beyond the forest.

[ Which is going to be far easier said than done. ]
messianic: (And the act)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-16 03:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[...???

Why does everyone in this town have roof climbing capabilities, and how does he learn...?]

I think you're right. None of these boats look like we could take them very far on the water, so... [The forest is their next best option.]
whereabout: the hibachi cook if his knife was a hattori hanzo (you wouldn't stop asking)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-16 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Get that social link up a rank or two and ask for lessons, grasshopper. ]

And you'd have to go far, from the look of it.

[ Not much on that horizon that he can spot aside from water, water, and more water. Definitely farther than any of these piece of junk boats look capable of. Although now that he thinks about it... ]

I wonder if we can find some binoculars or something.

[ Who knows what might be lying around in those houses? ]
messianic: (not a famous-last-words)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-16 08:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hmmm.]

Or a telescope? Maybe.

[How old are those things even.]

Some of the boat houses might have something like that, if people really did take them sailing. Ever. [Seems kind of doubtful at this point.]
whereabout: is that i maced my shadow. (all i remember about walking back home)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
[ Joshua finally stands up straight. ]

No time like the present to look, I guess.
messianic: (Fulfilling joy; fulfilling pain?-)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-17 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
That's true.

[Not like they have anything better to do!!]

I'll help. Let's see what we can find.

[First boathouse... THISAWAY.]
whereabout: come over (i'm equal parts terrified and turned on.)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-18 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
[ And away we go. Hopefully it's unlocked, and if it isn't...

...well, if it's locked, who are we kidding, Joshua still knows how to get in there. ]
messianic: (In vain we look; in vain uplift)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-18 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
[It seems to be open, but we need to find a locked one so Joshua can show off his sweet, sweet skills.

For now, Minato pushes open the door, peering in and...coughing a little as they stir up years' worth of dust.

Eeurgh.]
whereabout: it was really uncalled for. (he said a lot of nice things about me)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-19 04:09 am (UTC)(link)
[ Joshua waits a few beats before starting in, for precisely that reason. Look, the scarf doesn't keep itself this clean and white.

Once in, he runs a finger along the nearest dusty surface, and looks at the dust he's picked up with a frown. ]

Too bad we can't get any more specific than "a long time."
messianic: (Welcome my present pain!)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-19 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
[Y...eah.... Minato just shakes his head, coughing a little still as he shuffles over to a window and shoves it open.

Wheeze.]

It doesn't look like someone's been here in a really long time, you're right.

[Like way, way too long.]

Long enough that...we're probably not going to find them anywhere around here, right?
whereabout: to make you think of all the bad things you've done (nothing like a long car ride)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-19 04:37 am (UTC)(link)
[ He nods. ]

Long gone. Or...

[ ...and then frowns. ]

...no, they'd have to have left.

[ There haven't been any corpses, that he's seen. ]
messianic: (For now I die)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-19 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
... They definitely left.

[HE REFUSES TO ENTERTAIN THE THOUGHT OF AN ENTIRE DEAD TOWN.]

Maybe they went somewhere far away after the color disappeared...?
whereabout: it was stuck in my bedroom ceiling (i found your knife.)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-19 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
[ Look, Door Jesus, some of us have to consider every reasonable possibility before we reject it. ]

I don't think it's too big an assumption that they're related, at the very least.
messianic: (In vain we look; in vain uplift)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-19 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
[LOOK.....

He doesn't want to think about it!!]

I guess... them leaving could've made it disappear too? Depending on how this town works. [The cause and effect is kind of fuzzy here.]
whereabout: to make you think of all the bad things you've done (nothing like a long car ride)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-19 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
It's possible.

[ He considers. ]

That would still leave us with the question of what could make an entire town pack up and leave all at once, though.
messianic: (Death doth draw nigh)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-19 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[........]

No matter what possibilities I think of, none of them are good.
whereabout: and put its blood in my hair to warn the others off. (it looks like i murdered a care bear)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-19 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Most of the possibilities I can think of would leave at least some dead, but we haven't seen any evidence of that.

[ Here to be morbid so you don't have to. ]
messianic: (In vain we look; in vain uplift)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-20 12:04 am (UTC)(link)
[....OKAY THEN.]

So you think we can safely assume those things didn't happen?
whereabout: and put its blood in my hair to warn the others off. (it looks like i murdered a care bear)

[personal profile] whereabout 2018-03-20 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
With the information we have now? Yes, I think so.
messianic: (For now I die)

[personal profile] messianic 2018-03-20 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
That's good then, right?

[It might've been bad but at least it wasn't that bad, in other words.]
