[It sure is another sweltering hot day. Pretty great for spending it outside and getting some quests done. Sora had laughed when he saw one in particular and had dragged both Riku and Kairi out in order to complete it. So, here they are now near the harbour with Sora’s wise advice of hauling all the components themselves down to the water to build a boat.]

Just think of it like this, Riku. Now’s your chance to get a real ship built and working and not just a raft.

[He grins at Kairi. It’s suiting, isn’t it? The three of them working together to build a boat. Just like old times! But maybe this time they’ll actually get it done and go sailing over the water with everyone else.]

It’s gonna be great! I can't wait!

[Kairi tries to grin back, but it's weak. She's not so sure about this. Their raft wasn't exactly the best; they never really got to give it a real test! And a boat is a whole other thing...]

How confident are you feeling Riku?

[That makes two of them then. Riku keeps up a small smile, but he doesn't have nearly the confidence that Sora does. Not to mention the water out there... it doesn't feel right to him.]

Heh, yeah... [Long hair pulled back into a ponytail, he glances at their small assortment of equipment and materials.] It's going to be tricky without every tool but... so long as we get something that stays afloat and keeps us dry, it could work?

[Meaning, he isn't too confident about this. It's a big jump to go from a raft to a functional boat. But at least it could be a fun project?]

[Look at these two being practical, logical and total buzz-kills. He sees you guys.]

It's gonna work! It's gonna be the best boat that's built out here today!

[Sora picks up his pace after he shoots the both of them with a bright grin.]

Besides, how hard can it actually be?

[Kairi lets out a small "pfft" but shrugs.]

All we can do is try I guess! [She peeks over the supplies with Riku and the pulls out a board.] We should probably start with a base, huh?

[darkbreak]

[What's wrong with being practical? Sora's endless optimism does bring a helpless smile to Riku's face. He sure doesn't completely believe that it'll be the best ever, but they could make something interesting or close to a real boat.]

Well saying it like that makes it sound like it'll be impossible. [Eyes roll and voice dripping with sarcasm. He pulls out a board himself.]

Yeah. It should be made with thicker and stronger wood so it supports us.

Can't spell impossible without possible.

[Sora moves to Kairi and helps her pull out the wooden boards from the piles of them supplies to them and the other builders. At least they got something to start with. Sora nods and starts to work on the groundwork for the boat.

Let's see how long Sora actually works for before he gets bored or tired.]

This reminds me a lot of when we were kids, you know?

[Kairi grins at him.]

Yeah huh? I mean it wasn't that long ago we made that raft huh?

[The one they never got to use. She often wonders how far they would've gotten anyway; if they could even really leave the islands. But maybe now they can test that out.]

By the way, have either of you been in the lake?

[darkbreak]

[Honestly, Riku would be impressed if Sora sticks to this for a few hours. Chances are, he's the one who's going to be doing more of the work. Again.

With a few boards already down, Riku moves to start wrapping some thick rope around their ends.]

Just a few years. But it kinda feels like an eternity now.

[He keeps a focus on his work, hoping the other two wouldn't notice the frown that graces his face.]

Been there but haven't gone into the water. Not sure I trust it. [A beat.] You're thinking about testing it out there?

[Sora flicks a tiny pebble at Riku's forehead.]

I tried fishing once. Didn't work out! But that water looks way too gross to go in.

[And he'll be right about that later on.]

It'll be good enough to float the boat in, though! As long as we don't sink.
