he setting is actually rather miraculous. In the center of the Town, not far from the well, there are tables set up, complete with bright orange tableclothes, and at the tables, there is a spot for each and every character, both new and old. They have a fancy placeholder with their names written at their spot, and at each spot is a meal they've been craving since they arrived. It's colorful, and delicious, and can be as fancy and spectacular as they desire.

Of course, as nice as that is... maybe they should go save the people in the well first? There's definitely some yelling going on down there. Seems like there are some new friends, and the Town's welcoming everyone in style this time!

[ give him a hot minute, Kaoru, or maybe even three of 'em, he's just gonna need to process all of that. ]

Wait, wait, so literally everyone here's all been dragged in from different dimensions? Like some kinda massive-scale multiversal Out of This World kinda scenario? [ beat. ] Actually, that's not the best comparison, but seriously, what the hell?

[She'll give him all the time he needs because goodness knows. She had been freaking out in her own way too and her world was pretty damn weird.]

Yeah. Some people are from places with magic and there are these other kids from a world almost everyone has super powers.

What's "Out of this World"? [A movie maybe? Or some kind of video game?]

[ he opens his mouth. closes it again. last week his best friend swallowed a computer that turned him into a jerk and he is literally right now sitting here talking to a psychic, so... magic and superpowers, sure. that checks out!

he sticks both of his hands under his glasses to rub his palms over his eyes, anyway. ] God. That's really, really cool, but... honestly, what a week.

[ anyway!! a distraction! a distraction is good! ] Oh, it's this video game? A pretty old one, but I dig that kinda thing. It's about this scientist who accidentally opens a hole in time and space and gets sucked through to an alien planet. He even has to climb out a pond when he first gets there.

It's a lot to take in, right? Don't worry, you sort of get used to it.

[Oh, videogames! She's not that into the old ones but video games in general were a thing she's missed.] That does sound like what's happening to here. [Just replace 'pond' with 'well'.] I play more of the new stuff. Oh, and online games too! I hope the guys I normally play with are doing okay without me there...

You're a gamer? [ he brightens up a little bit at that, if only slightly. ] MMOs are pretty sweet, there's this group I play Warcraft with back home--

[ geez, back home. apparently he's not done processing yet, 'cause between saying those words with his mouthflap and hearing Kaoru say she hopes her online buddies are doing okay, it kinda hits him all over again. ]

... hey, uh. I totally get if there's no way you know the answer to this, but. It just hit me that, how we were saying how we're all from different dimensions? How does that work time-wise, I mean, is this like a Narnia gig where if we ever figure out how to get back we'll wind up right back when we left, or is time passing back home right now?

[ god, he hopes it's not the latter option. ]

[She doesn't have as much time to put into it as she'd like, because school and her full time job as a government epser, but she did enjoy playing. But her enthusiasm dies as his does.]

I don't know...I think someone went back for a little bit and it sounds like no time had passed. But it's never happened to me so I'm not sure. I think that's something a lot of people are worried about. [She knows she is, when she allows herself the time to think about it.] Sorry, I wish I had a better answer for you.

[ he shakes his head, trying to contain how much dread that uncertainty fills him with, and not entirely succeeding. ]

No, it's cool. [ it's not, but she shouldn't apologise for stuff that's out of her control. ] I mean, you're in the same boat as me, it's not your fault you don't know.

[You know what? She's going to lean over and try to pull him into a hug. It would probably be awkward at this angle except she doesn't have to stay grounded and can shift the angle of her body accordingly by holding herself slightly off the ground.]

It'll be okay. We'll figure it out together with everyone.

[ at first, he tenses up when she goes in for the hug. Michael's a tactile person by nature, but for a good couple of seconds that tactile nature is at war with the part of him that's just straight-up uncomfortable around people he doesn't know, ie, most people.

but it's also been a long day and a long week and being on the receiving end of a well-meant gesture like that is resonating hard with both of those things. so, gradually, that tension drains right out of him. with a weak laugh: ] I can't believe I'm getting a floaty psychic hug and a pep talk from a literal esper.

[Kaoru has always found something very reassuring about physical touches--hand holding, hugs and all that stuff. So it's natural for her to just reach out like this. She pulls back enough to grin at him.]

And a cute one at that!

[Because she is absolutely not embarrassed to call herself cute.]

[ he blinks, with a look of incredulous, but pleased, surprise. ]

Love the confidence.

[ he does! more people should be as genuinely comfortable in their own skins as that!

though, speaking of comfort, being emotionally vulnerable with someone he's just met, no matter how kind, is definitely outside of his own comfort zone. now he no longer feels like he's on the verge of immediately running and hiding for the rest of forever with how much nope is in his system, it's time to walk it back a bit. ]

Thanks for the cooldown hug, I think I'm good now? Didn't mean to get all heavy on you like that.

[Naturally, she'll let go without any further comment.] Don't worry about it. This whole thing is pretty stressful.
