LUPINQUEST 2: REVELATIONS

[ Lupin's decided he's recovered enough from being shot three times to get back out there, although his friends may disagree - and that means it's time for him to start doing the jobs Chroma's lined up for him. One of them, of course, is more suited to him than the others. The others, though - or one of the others - are apparently going to be a little more difficult. He'd broken his own rule and gone out into the forest (while injured, no less!) to do a little bit of preliminary investigation, as any good thief should, and now he's come back.

He looks a little disgruntled, in fact. He's at the edge of town, sitting on a bit of rubble and thinking out loud. ]

... Why can't I get anywhere near those unicorns?

[ stealing a hair from a horse should be easy for a thief like him!! ]

Naturally. I was pretty poor for a long time, you know. A thief has to learn to provide for himself.

[ he's a pretty fast climber when he has an actual rope instead of the bare, slimy brick wall of a well, so it won't take him too long to come over the lip of the cliff; once he's there, he'll reach out a hand to help Akira and Yusuke up those last few feet. ]

I can show you, but only if you promise not to fire it at anyone else.

Promise.

[Akira steps up on the cliff, looking around for any signs of danger while Yusuke gets the rest of the way up. Everything seems calm for the moment...

Still, he double checks with his Third Eye, catching sight of a few blue shapes moving around the top of a wall. So far, they seem to be obscured from view.]

There's three guards up there. [Even though, they can't actually be seen by the naked eye.]

Naturally, I promise.

[Yusuke gladly accepts a hand up from Lupin, glancing around as he listens and watches both, holding his breath for a moment.

He looks quickly back to Akira when he speaks, not doubting the words as per usual and nodding once.]

Shall we scope the immediate area for a route in, then?

[ ... he has no idea how Akira could possibly know that, but he won't question it; he just nods. ]

If they're patrolling up top, then we should try to come in from below. Let's look for a drainage grate.

[ not the most pleasant, but safer! He beckons the two of them along with him as he darts up right to the walls of the castle, where he figures he'll be harder to spot from above. ]

[Maybe it's not the most glamorous way to enter a castle, but Akira's squeeze through his share of windows and grates and holes by now. He's not in the least turned off.

He follows along, staying pressed in the shadows of the wall. The dark of his Metaverse outfit helps him blend in, as usual.

He moves quick, not glancing back for Yusuke, but keeping track of the sound of his footsteps.]

[Drainage and vents and all that is all good. Thiefy ways of going.

Yusuke follows quietly, eyes fixed on Akira's back. He doesn't speak or anything, out of a thought that their voices could travel through the gates if he's not careful enough.

So quiet is the way!]

[ Look at these two proper quiet thieves!! Lupin doesn't even need to try to keep them in line.

Unsurprisingly, there aren't any guards in the drainage valve. It doesn't take long to find where it comes out, either: a garden in the castle courtyard, by the looks of things. Exactly as Lupin was planning. The problem is that the grate is on the ceiling now, and too tall for any of them to reach on their own.

Silently, he beckons towards them, gesturing for one of them to come stand on his shoulders and take a peek and possibly pull the lid off if the coast is clear. ]

[Ah, so that's how he's going to do it.

Really, Akira could use his Third Eye and take a look, but they still need to reach the grate regardless, and he's interested to see where this goes.

And Yusuke is taller than he is, so...

He steps back, and nods at his friend. All on you, Fox.]

...Please excuse me.

[Yusuke says sotto voce since he's about to stomp all over Lupin--okay, not stomp all over him but he's not used to climbing on someone's shoulders.

BUT UP HE GOES he's an alarmingly light kid so this is fine.]

[ wow, he really is light. ]

-- Oi, are you eating enough?

[ he has to comment, even as he hoists Yusuke up to get a look outside. The grate isn't overly heavy, and can be easily removed from this side. On the surface, there are plenty of flowers and some sunshine filtering down, but no guards in sight. There is one squirrel that notices him, but it doesn't seem interested beyond giving him a funny look. ]

Probably not.

[Is Akira's wry comment from below. He waits, keeping a lookout for anything that might be coming up behind them. So far so good...]

I am eating enough, [he says but he'd say it anyway.

Anyway, after peering out through the grate, he wraps his fingers around it and carefully pushes it up and off, setting it slightly to the side.] It's all clear.

[So he'll hoist himself up before offering his hands down to Lupin.]
