LUPINQUEST 2: REVELATIONS
WHO: Lupin and YOU?
WHAT: Stealing gems, stealing unicorn hair, the works.
WHERE: Places where you can steal gems and unicorn hair (and the edge of the woods)
WHEN: July (July 8 for the open prompt)
NOTES: Pre-planned quest prompts will be going in the toplevels, but there is also an open prompt in the body of this post! If you want to do a quest with Lupin, shoot me a PM.
[ Lupin's decided he's recovered enough from being shot three times to get back out there, although his friends may disagree - and that means it's time for him to start doing the jobs Chroma's lined up for him. One of them, of course, is more suited to him than the others. The others, though - or one of the others - are apparently going to be a little more difficult. He'd broken his own rule and gone out into the forest (while injured, no less!) to do a little bit of preliminary investigation, as any good thief should, and now he's come back.
He looks a little disgruntled, in fact. He's at the edge of town, sitting on a bit of rubble and thinking out loud. ]
... Why can't I get anywhere near those unicorns?
[ stealing a hair from a horse should be easy for a thief like him!! ]

lupin and maya go to unicornland but have a better time
option 2: subdue unicorns by force. Maya can summon a Persona that can freeze one or put one to sleep - either works, right? Lupin doesn't want to kill them, of course - he just needs them to stop moving long enough for him to nick a strand of hair.
So, once again, he's walking through the woods, this time more tiredly - but also with even more determination. Arsène Lupin does not fail, dammit. ]
We're almost there, now. Are you ready?

[ she's heard that Lupin's had a hard time, and of course she's fully expecting to equally have a rough time (without realizing she won't), but she's still fairly cheerful about this. ]
I gotta say, I'm looking forward to this more than I was with the geese.

[ the unicorns didn't seem mutated, as far as he could tell...?! but maybe they could shoot lasers out of their horns and he just didn't get close enough to try.
Soon enough, they start to approach a clearing in the woods - or, at least, a place where the trees have thinned out more. There's a little stream running through, and some grass has started to poke up through the leaf litter; it's a charming scene. And there by the brook, about fifty feet away, is one of the mythical ponies. It's as shiny and elegant-looking as one would imagine. It's also staring directly at the two of them now. ]
Damn, we were clumsy-- [ Lupin assumes this means it's too late, since they'd run as soon as they saw him last time, but... this one isn't running, for some reason. ] -- or... maybe not?
no subject
Maybe this one's sleepy?
[ Surely that's it, even though she probably knows the myths behind unicorns. ]
no subject
[ as Maya takes a step towards it and it doesn't move, Lupin follows after her - but as soon as Lupin moves, it takes a few steps back, itself, ears flicking back in distaste. He freezes where he stands. ]
Nope. Uh... Nice pony. We're not going to hurt you.
no subject
Lupin, stay where you are for a second.
[ As she continues forward, one hand held out as though she's trying to appease it. ]
no subject
you can practically see the ? on his face, but he heeds her, staying put and watching the proceedings from where he is.
The unicorn also watches. It seems to consider Maya's hand for a few moments - but then looks back over to Lupin, puffing in... is that disgust? He frowns. ]
... What's that supposed to mean?
[ he's offended!! but... he backs up a little more, himself, positioning himself behind a bush. ]
no subject
--! [ Oh. She's humming thoughtfully, inching closer to the unicorn. ]
Now that I think about it, I think that's a part of their legend.
no subject
[ that's a good point. a very good point. it would also explain why dextera, the purest and gentlest of souls, still couldn't get close to the unicorn. He replies to her, although in a loud whisper rather than a shout. ]
You might be onto something.
[ the unicorn warily keeps an eye on Lupin for another moment or two; seeing Maya talk to him while coming closer yet, however, it relents, padding over closer and gazing at Maya curiously. ]
no subject
[ said wryly, because she's also a Persona user and that is the least sensible thing she can think of. This time, however, she lets the unicorn come to her at its own pace-- her hand is still extended, but she waits. ]
no subject
Oh! I think that means it likes you.
[ apparently, Lupin has passing familiarity with horses. ]
no subject
[ She honestly sounds pleasantly surprised. ]
-- Um, what is it I'm supposed to do again?
[ Besides pet its nose?? ]
no subject
[ when Lupin raises his voice, the unicorn spooks slightly, trotting a few paces back and glaring at him sideways - so he continues in a harsh whisper. ]
-- a hair from its mane.
no subject
[ Sorry, Lupin. This is just to snag some hairs. ]
no subject
The unicorn doesn't move closer to Maya again; it just shakes its mane restlessly. It might be annoyed its drink is getting interrupted... ]
no subject
Or you could just ignore me and go back to what you were doing!
no subject
no subject
[ Okay. Good. Not moving is good. She's offering her most beatific smile. ]
no subject
It's definitely wondering why she's hanging out with such an impure jerk like Lupin! Not that it can voice that. ]
no subject
I've got to say, I kind of feel bad for you and your... buddies. You've probably become incredibly popular over the last few days.
no subject
no subject
But fair's fair, so if it's leaning in to sniff, she's going to reach out to thread her fingers through its mane. If she's lucky, a few strands will be loose enough anyway. ]
You're so pretty!
[ Not a lie. ]
no subject
Lupin is anxiously biting his fingernails in the background somewhere. ]
no subject
But also she's giving the unicorn an affectionate pat on the neck. ]
Okay, buddy. I do have to go, so you'll have to snack on something else.
no subject
The unicorn, on the other hand, doesn't seem interested in having this meeting end so soon after all that trouble. It neighs a little bit, bumping into Maya the moment she might try and step back... and continues munching on her hair. ]
