WHO: Mutsunokami and you. With closed prompts for Nyx, Dextera, and Ryouma.
WHAT: Target practice for Quest #17
WHERE: Out and about
WHEN: All month!
NOTES: If you'd like to do Quest #17 (Shoot an apple off of someone's head), hit me up through PM, plurk (
eski, discord @ #eski#9874. Mutsu is a red and is a cautious volunteer as a shooter or target. He'll need a little bit of convincing but he's willing to help! So let's work it out first if you want to go down the quest route. If you don't want to do the quest, just treat it as an ordinary open prompt.
( There's a loud bang just out of Flavo. Given a certain quest given to the town, it may or may not be out of the ordinary this month but should one investigate it, they'll find Mutsunokami facing the forest, a row of make shift targets set along what was probably once a garden wall at the edge of Flavo. It isn't much and his targets are mostly things along the lines of old cans, some broken bits of wood, and other, small targets. He isn't standing particularly far from the targets-- it's not like he's practicing sharpshooting but he's definitely a good distance away from them.
From the looks of it, he hasn't hit anything this time and he doesn't look particularly pleased with that. But he won't give up! Eyes sharp and focused and aim ready, he looks like he's ready to go for another shot when he hears someone approach. Lowering his gun, he looks back, )
Here to watch? ( Relaxing, he gives his gun a casual twirl and grins, ) Gahaha! You're gonna make me nervous.
( Not really. )

So he straightens, rubbing the back of his head.]
I little sheepish, honestly.
[In all honesty!]
I can't believe I didn't see that coming.
[He wasn't at all prepared for Mutsu to get more creative, even though in all honesty he should've been; just because Mutsu's a sword doesn't mean Mutsu will only use his sword.]

( There's nothing to be embarrassed about. Minato put up a good fight, even with the difference in their skill. )
I got a bit of a reputation back home for not fighting like everyone else. ( "Heretical" according to one of the scrappiest swords. And then he's also regularly teased for actually being a decent fighter in a fair fight... ) But there's nothing wrong with fighting honestly.
( Directly, without tricks and distractions. )
Let's take a break and talk a bit, yeah? Figure out what we're working with here. How'd ya learn to fight, Minato-kun?
( He couldn't recognize any real style. Something practiced but unrefined, definitely rough around the edges but functional all the same. )

[If Mutsu says so, he'll try not to be too embarrassed about it... it's definitely the sort of mistake that could've gotten him killed in the field, though, so he'll have to learn from this as best he can, he thinks.
For now, he just nods thoughtfully, one hand tucking back into his pocket as he does, the other holding his sword loosely at his side.]
I guess... [Mutsu is a sword spirit, right? So it's not like he'll be too surprised by this. No point in not being honest.] Back home there were these monsters. My team and I were the only ones who could really fight them, so... I picked up a sword because it was there to use to try to protect everyone.

Tapping his sword against his shoulder casually, he listens. Hmm, it makes sense that he wouldn't have much of a form or a style if he'd just picked up the sword. It explains a more aggressive style-- a survivalist's style?)
We'll start with the basics and some more sparring. (He sheathes his sword at his side, resting his hand on his hip,) I'll teach ya what I know but we gotta figure out a style for ya. Something traditional or something more western that you can build on. (Something fast and offensive, he thinks, but it's early in the game and Minato's style could change with more experience.) 'course, ya don't gotta settle for just one thing either.
It's good switching it up a little. ... Keeps ya on your toes.
How's that sound? Anything special ya wanna get out of this?

So Minato smiles a little, nodding--and then he bows his head, a proper and polite gesture.]
That sounds perfect, honestly. Thank you very much, Mitsunokami-san.
[He's not sure he has a lot to offer in return, but he'll cross that bridge when they come to it. For now--]
I'll be in your care, and... I'm really looking forward to learning from you, honestly.
[It seems to him like it will be very, very helpful. And Mutsu honestly seems to know a great deal more than him (unsurprisingly), so he's very content to go along with that guidance.]

Gee, it's nothing.
(What does he even do with a polite kid like Minato? He almost feels bad for kicking him now???)
I've never really had to teach anyone before. (It seems like swords just manifest knowing how to fight naturally. Not all swords have the patience to teach, though and luckily for Minato, he has one of the more understanding swords as a partner right now,) So we'll figure everything out together.
All right! Too early for a break! So let's get started!
