[ Dinner is right there. He almost wonders if Akechi is saying it on purpose, trying to tempt him - doesn't he know how he sounds? Dressed like that, he barely even looks like the Akechi that Lupin knows - and that makes it all the easier for him to look like prey. How could he possibly go back and eat that pink sludge out of a cold can when there's fresh, hot blood offering itself up to him right here?
He can't.
Lupin springs from the rafters without warning, hands extended to catch Akechi by the shoulders. His gloves are gone, and in their place is black fur and black claws, aiming to puncture him and pin him down to the floorboards. ]
[ Hah. So it was all a ruse, after all-- the animal instinct really has taken over.
Still, Akechi is quick on his reflexes and rolls to the side, just in time to dodge Lupin's attack, but enough to draw his gun just yet. Or perhaps he doesn't want to? If he can find a way to stop his roommate without hurting... If only he can think of something...
He makes a dash for the basement door, in hopes to get Lupin trapped inside again. In his Phantom Thief outfit gives him a bit of a boost in agility, but is it enough to outspeed Lupin in his beast form...? ]
[ unsurprisingly, it isn't - or, rather, it almost is. Lupin falls to the ground with a thump, but he pivots where he lands with shocking quickness, dashing after Akechi and shoving his furred hands in the space between door and doorway before it can fully close. He might be strong, but Lupin, with his newly-found bestial strength, is stronger, and he easily throws aside the old wooden door, taking it off one of the hinges in the process.
By now, he's not interested in talking anymore. There's only a heartbeat before he's lunging at his roommate again, swiping at his chest with his claws. ]
Akechi manages to escape Lupin's assault, but just barely, the claws having left a dash across his princely vest as a memento of this encounter. There's a sting in his chest, and somehow, it doesn't feel like it's just from open flesh and blood sipping out; somehow, it's just a little worse.
He really didn't want to have to do this.
Still, his hand makes a quick grab for his pistol, and he takes a shot at Lupin's left shoulder. Hopefully that will be enough to stop him. ]
[ the sight of the blood and the sensation of actually connecting a blow only heightens his desire to feed - he no longer recognizes the person in front of him as Akechi or even as a fellow human. He's just a rabbit to be hunted and eaten.
The loss of judgement is a critical failure for a thief who prides himself on his planning. His mind immediately goes to the next attack rather than considering the possibility of a counterattack; Akechi's shot will find its mark easily, and Lupin cries out - or, rather, lets out a canine yelp - as he stumbles back a step.
It hurts. It hurts, but he can still move. How dare his prey hurt him? A deep, animal anger boils up inside of him, and with a wolf-like snarl, he retaliates, throwing himself bodily at Akechi with snapping jaws. He wants to pin him down. ]
[ Akechi is quick to realize the sight and smell of blood will only further trigger Lupin's animal instincts - hadn't he been craving meat ever since the bite? - so there's no room for hesitation now. He'll have to be just as quick about taking action.
Eat or be eaten, eat or be eaten.
As the beast rushes towards him and goes for the body slam, Akechi takes two more shots, one at Lupin's other shoulder, and another aimed at the right half of his chest area-- away from the heart, but hopefully painful enough that would leave him incapacitated. ]
[ The bullets find their mark easily - he's no longer a clever thief, but just a ravenous wolf. This time, the scream he makes is both much louder and much closer to human. The pain was bad before; now, he feels like a fire is spreading across his chest, and in a moment of clarity, Lupin realizes that he's been shot. Akechi shot him, because he was afraid Lupin would eat him--
His pounce doesn't quite make it into the air; he trips and falls over his feet, landing with a heavy thud that sends blood splattering onto the wooden floor. There's a whimper, followed by silence. He doesn't get back up this time. ]
