[Is the answer, but Keith smirks. Fast, yeah. That's one he's got on his side, always has. He reaches back to draw the small knife from its sheath, holding it out in front of him. The flare of light along his own blade is violet, a quick flash as the small dagger elongates into a curved blade, one that retains the faint purple glow.]
On you.
[Keith indicates with a nod of his head. He's ready.]
[Nyx gives him an impressed look for the sword, making a note to self that he wants to see it a little closer once things have calmed down.]
Let's shake things up.
[Nyx breaks into a run, following the treeline diagonally for several steps before spotting one of the beasts' shadows. Target found, he throws a kukri into the darkness and in the next instance warps to it, leaving a small eruption of blue sparks in his wake.
Grabbing his dagger midair, he shifts his momentum to bring it down on the wolf's side, just barely missing its vitals as the monster leaps away with an alarmed yelp. It turns on him angrily, a deep growl reverberating through the trees.]
[Keith is in motion a fraction of a second later, keeping pace, back and to Nyx's left until, suddenly Nyx isn't there anymore.
Wow, okay that's impressive. He will need to ask about that.
But for now Keith is busy focusing on a moving shadow off to his side, twisting to a stop in time to swing his blade as the wolf leaps at him, ducking beneath it quickly, low and coming up to catch the thing with his sword, sending it sprawling. Down but far from out.]
[Nyx learns very quickly that while his blades can break their hide, they don't seem to slow them down in the least; not if he can't score a fatal blow. Even with his skills they're fast enough to just stay ahead of his attacks, too.
He picks up his pace and, for a moment, takes the upper hand on the wolf trying to duck around to counter his strikes. Nyx smirks, changing the grip on one blade to take advantage of an opening--
If he hadn't felt the hair on the back of his neck raise, intincts suddenly ringing, Nyx would have been taken down by a bipedal beast with claws long enough to eviscerate him. He ducks into a roll, avoiding both wolves, and stares at the werewolf with a sinking feeling in his stomach.]
[Keith is facing a very similar problem. His blade connects and does some damage, clearly, enough that the wolves are trying to avoid it actively -- so it's not like the shadow creatures where it just can't touch them.
But it's not stopping them. At all.
He looks up and over though when he hears Nyx, and his own eyes widen.]
Quiznak...
[THe hell is that thing? Shit. Well.] ...I think we might've bit off more than we can chew!
[He yells out.] These things don't seem to care how many times I stab them!
They're tougher than the other animals here! [Nyx whole heartedly agrees that this is bigger than they expected.
He casts a bolt of lightning at the bigger one, quickly retreating back to where Keith is still struggling.]
This shit reminds me of a six damned video game or something.
[One of the wolves tries to take advantage of the distraction but Nyx spots it out of the corner of his eye in time to cast a shield around them. Hexagons form and blend together like solid blue light, and the beast crashes into it with a yelp.
It costs a lot to form the magic into a full sphere, and Nyx can feel the magic pulling on him. His side twinges sharply and he grits he teeth.]
[Because this is a losing battle by any stretch of the imagination, when nothing they do seems to actually take down their opponents, and they're outnumbered to begin with.]
Break back for the town and hope they don't follow?
[IF they do, that's a bigger problem, and Keith will stand his ground no matter what the risks at that point. Because there are folks in the city who aren't used to fighting for their lives -- and shouldn't have to be.]
[It's a fair concern. But staying isn't working out for them. And this guy is right. Out in the open they'll be better off than in between these trees anyway. The creatures are at home here. Keith is fine taking away their home field advantage.]
So... fall back?
[He carries on the conversation in between fending off the wolves with his sword, frowning at how little it seems to affect them. Why. Why is hitting things with a sword always so ineffective here??]
[Idly Nyx wonders if Noctis is having better luck with his access to greatswords almost as big as the King is tall. Surely these wolves couldn't ignore that.
A sharp nod.]
Fall back.
[He gives it a breath so that they're both on the same page before casting Fira at the wolf between them and the edge of the trees. The fire blooms startlingly bright and the wolves scatter in alarm, leaving a way out.]

Fast enough so far.

Regroup, we need a quick plan.

I'm not arguing against it, but I don't know if these things'll be nice enough to not chase us if we run.
[He doesn't like being prey. It sits badly in his stomach.]
On the other hand staying here is looking like a worse option. We should get out from under the trees either way.
