[ Fushimi hears the growl, too. He's, honestly, glad to finally have something useful to do. He's been sitting idle too long, and even if he hasn't quite recovered from a week of nearly complete sleep deprivation, he's certainly on the mend.
The second he hears the growl, he sends an arc of fire in that direction, bright and searing hot. He doesn't flinch at the heat, but the ends of his fingers look like they're a little burnt, a little red around the nails. It doesn't seem to bother him, at least.
The wolf howls, loud and angry, but it falls back in the face of the fire, which quickly dissipates once the threat seems to have diminished. The foliage is a little worse for wear, but it seems like Fushimi managed to keep the flames fairly contained. ]
[ Noctis is startled by the arc of fire, lingering on the ends of his fingers -- this is some sort of magic, definitely, but it doesn't seem like he's immune to the effects of it as much. Does it even hurt?
More importantly, the level of control he sees is impressive; this is someone who definitely knows what he's doing, and the fire is much more effective against the werewolf than anything else. Interesting. ]
[ Fushimi clicks his tongue, because even if he's living a little for the thrill of this fight -- he doesn't much like their odds, if there's nine that Noctis has already seen. There's a good chance there's more of them than they have fighters...
Well, they'll all hold out as long as they can, Fushimi supposes. ]
Close enough. [ Fushimi isn't about to argue the differences between his powers and magic from other worlds. ] It's finally useful for something like this.
[ It's all cool, Fushimi -- that's a really useful skill he's got right there, and Noctis can do with that for the moment. ]
's pretty awesome.
[ He comments briefly, keeping an eye out for the wolf, for anything else that moves in the dark forest. For the moment, there's nothing, but it probably just means that the beast is biding its time. ]
Yeah. We aren't... organized enough, yet. [ They're trying, and Guren alone has probably helped make them more organized than they would have been on their own, but they were still too unprepared for something like this. ]
We needed a better front line, and everyone that can't fight should have taken shelter earlier. [ It doesn't sound like condemnation, though. Fushimi was as taken off guard as everyone else, because even though this place keeps trying to kill them, it does it in different ways everytime, so Fushimi never knows what's going to try and kill him next. Furniture? Hallucinations? His coffee??? ]
It probably doesn't make much of a difference. [ Them killing what they can, that is. Fushimi is still going to do it, though, because it's something to do. ]
Give it a little time. At least this is a learning lesson of a terrible sort.
[ With everything going on lately, there's barely time to breathe before the next awful thing comes rolling around. Guren's definitely done his best, but in this moment he knows that they need to do better, all of them.
He nods briefly at him. ] I'm Noctis. [ He never caught this guy's name from before. ] You?
Fushimi. [ He has not once introduced himself with his first name, and yet someone people keep calling him by it, so at this juncture it's a conscious decision to only use his last name. Thanks, he hates it. ]
A lesson... [ Fushimi clicks his tongue, irritably; he feels like he's had more than enough learning experiences to last him solidly until his 40s, at this point, and he'd really like a refund on whatever got him in this hellscape to begin with. ]
This place is a bad teacher. [ They could at least have a little more to work with than they do. ]
I'm just patrolling. [ He wasn't even asked or assigned to anything, this time -- he's just going because a fight seemed preferable to staying indoors and trying to avoid the chaos. Normally, he'd just sleep and ignore everything, but the howling was a little loud...
He shrugs up a shoulder, but steps forward to continue going. ]
[ Another civic minded soul, working to keep the town safe -- to varying results. The whole thing would be ridiculous if it wasn't so dangerous, and Noctis walks with him, keeping an eye out on the shrubbery. ]
Have you heard of wolves breaking in, though, or are the houses safe?
They're safe enough, but I doubt it'll last. [ Fushimi helped reinforce his house, but everyone that lives in it is a fighter to some degree or another, so it was a little less important than things like actually getting out there to help the city. ]
If there's not an end to these things...
[ Then eventually, they'll get desperate, hungrier, stronger. There's not enough people to stave them off forever, and Fushimi can only imagine that they'll eventually manage to work doorknobs. ]
A full moon should only be a day, but things here... [ Fushimi clicks his tongue. None of this is a fairy tale; it's all just a nightmare that Fushimi would really like to wake up from. ]
If it ends soon, we should be okay.
[ For awhile. Hopefully they'll have long enough to recover, because Fushimi really, really doesn't want something else to hit them when they're still trying to deal with their losses this month. As far as he knows, things haven't been too bad, but he knows there's already some injuries... ]
[ He sighs, shaking his head. Fushimi's pretty much saying what he thinks, and it really, really sucks. Not too far away, there's the sound of rustling and a howl, together with strange snuffling little noises.
[ Fushimi pretty much instantly has two knives in his hand, the handles pressed between his fingers and a blue glow ensconcing them as he turns in the direction of the sounds.
He's not the chattiest to begin with, but he goes completely silent for a moment as he tries to figure out the best method of attack, eyes shifting back to Noctis for a split second as he makes a gesture that is his best attempt to communicate "you get that side, I'll get this side". ]

...How many have you seen?

They're already biting some of the townspeople.

Yeah, it is. C'mon, let's go. You got any special mission to accomplish in here, or are you patrolling?
[ They've got quite a ways to cover, and Noctis isn't going to leave him on his own, not when the wolves are most definitely circling. ]
