[The idea of giant, bipedal wolves lurking around the edge of the forest is terrifying, but Ochako focuses on keeping her nerves under control as she walks alongside her friend. Heroes should be prepared to deal with anything and everything; while this particular situation was never covered in class, she knows that it's her job to stay calm, listen to her partner, and ensure that nothing dangerous enters the town. The populace must be protected! She can do this!
What she can't do, however, is prevent herself from shivering when a sudden howl cuts through the silence. She chances a glance at Izuku, hoping that he didn't catch that, before she shifts her attention to the trees in the distance. They aren't too far from town, but still—]
That sounded closer than the others. [Narrowing her eyes, she carefully watches for any sign of movement.] Maybe they're getting braver?
I wouldn't be surprised. [Though Izuku reaches over to brush her shoulder in a fleeting, reassuring touch, he doesn't take his eyes off of the line of trees before them.]
We'll just have to back each other up. [His mind's already racing, thinking of a plan.] I'm not completely sure yet, but if they're bipedal and there's a full moon, then I think--they're not normal wolves. Werewolves? I remember reading about them in the library when I was doing research for the bestiary. If that's what they are, then we need to keep our distance. According to the stories, if you get bitten by one, you turn into one yourself. [He mumbles to himself for a few seconds before speaking up again.] If any of them try to get into the town, you can float up some debris and rocks that I can launch at them with my wind pressure. What do you think?
[Everything Izuku is saying is... worrying, to say the least, but there is comfort to be found in the fact that he's by her side. Of course he knows what these weird wolves actually are, and of course he's already thinking of a strategy— he's absolutely amazing. Now she needs to carry her own weight.]
It's a good plan, but we should have something behind us, right? So nothing can sneak up on us?
[Whoa, listen to that new howl! How narratively convenient! Ochako is careful not to shiver this time, but her frown definitely deepens as she realizes that it sounded a little bit closer than the last one.]
It's going to be hard to keep track of them in the dark.
[Izuku's jaw clenches as he realizes just how difficult this is going to be.]
We should think about setting up torches around the town after this. It's not just the wolves--any other threat we have to deal with in town would be easier to fight off if we had some kind of light to work with.
[He narrows his eyes, turning his head toward yet another wolf joining the others.] Ochako-san... I think they're surrounding us.
[She instinctively takes a step closer to him, keeping a watchful eye on his blind spot. They're still a good distance away, but she can just barely see shadowy figures slinking through the tall grass... and they certainly do seem to be moving in together. Eerie.]
I think so, too. Should we move? [She keeps her voice pitched low, hoping that they aren't close enough to hear her.] Or I can look for rocks, if you keep an eye on... them.
[His eyes track the figures that were slinking even closer--he's never seen normal wolves hunt, but a part of him thinks the supernatural aspect of werewolves probably lends something even more to their abilities as a pack.]
If we move, we leave this part of the town open to them. [Not an option.] Do you think you can find anything to use around here?
[Being exposed like this isn't the best feeling in the world, but she doesn't even try to argue with him; instead, she keeps her eyes on the distant shadows for a moment longer before dutifully turning to scan their immediate surroundings. Hmm. Small stones, a stick or two— the town is still fairly close, which means that this area is unfortunately clear of the larger debris. A few feet away, though, where the grass begins to get wild—]
Everything is... scattered, but I see a few things that are big enough to hurt. I just have to move to them.
[She hesitates, because the truth is... well, even if he does try to clear the way, it's impossible to tell how many wolves may be hidden just out of range. If they run especially fast—
But she shouldn't even think about that! As long as she's quick—as long as she's just as brave as Izuku—then everything should go according to plan, which is why she moves right out of his way.]
Go for it!
[She tenses, prepared to bolt the second he gives her the all-clear. It's time to get this show on the road.]
Okay. [And with that Izuku flicks the air with his finger, aiming the blast of wind pressure right at the converging werewolves, wincing when his finger twinges in discomfort.]
Ochako-san, go!
[He'll be right behind her to cover her back as soon as she starts moving!]

Will you be able to reach them if I clear the way for you?
[He's already powering up his quirk, ready to move as soon as she answers.]
