[Keith will reach a hand up to engage his own mask, if only because with the display that gives him he'll have a better chance of seeing any wolves that decide to head out of the bushes.]
This is insane. I don't... ugh. It really ticks me off, you know? We're being toyed with by all of this.
[Someone has to be behind it, and Keith hates them.]
I think you're making it sound a lot cooler than it actually is.
[Hmmm.]
If you want to experiment with it, though, I'm not really opposed. I wouldn't mind knowing more about how it even works, myself. Figuring that kind of thing out just...hasn't exactly been a priority before.
["A part of me that's meant to help me face hardships". It's lucky that she's been here long enough to have mellowed out a little, or she would've had some choice and scathing things to say about a notion like that.
As it is, she'll settle for just kind of deadpan.]
What, again? [And yet he obviously doesn't care enough to be mad at her, since he does bend down again. Did he learn his lesson? Is he this much of a dingus? Both and neither.
Anyway, he drops the scarf and his nose is luckily not mangled or anything, just kinda... bleeding. And going to swell up, which will look great on him later, ugh. Fortunately he is distracted by glancing up at her ears pretty much every five seconds. Hmm!!]
Guess I'm gonna be like that sooner or later, huh? [maybe he should freak out more. but Ochako seems okay, so maybe it's not terrible?!] Does it, like... hurt?
[ He's a werewolf, yes. Who's... putting away a tray of cookies. Yes, cookies. ]
And you'd be the girl who lives here. Or... it's where our communication devices work.
[ He turns to look at her, and she can take in the whole picture: tall, large, a little more paunch than muscle with the way he's standing. Glasses, kind blue eyes, a smile that'd be a little warmer without the fangs in it, and dark hair. A tie that he's kept as well as one might here in the edge of civilization, as well as the rest of the office wear.]
I'm being as careful as I can, but I heal quickly. You take care as well.
[ His objective is to take care of as many people on the battlefield as possible. John might see him flicker off to move someone or remove a single wolf. He moves... fast.]
[That sure is a bleeding heart in his hands... well, she's touched worse. (Like Sakaki's arm, for one. That gross pervert.)
All she wants to know is whether or not it contains weird parasites or bloodborne diseases though out of curiosity she also checks to see where this heart comes from in the first place.]
A deer, huh... It's safe to eat. [Much as it pains her to tell him this. And now she has blood all over her hands which she considers wiping on something before she realizes that the only choices she has are him, the door or her skirt. Ugh....]
[ dextera realizes the problem she’s having a moment later, and so he sticks the heart in his mouth—it’s a bit tough, so it doesn’t immediately yield under the pressure of his teeth—and holds his arms out.
he’s offering his sleeves for her to wipe her hands off, if she likes. ]
[ They're silent after he explains, just accepting his explanation because...there's no way for them to really disprove it, nor really even understand it. None of the abilities from their home world come close to the one he describes; his ability actually seems more in line with the copious amounts of fairy tales they read everyday. But if what he says is true, then they're in no position to tell him it won't work, so they don't bother.
In fact, they barely even respond to what he says until a shadowy movement between the trees in front of the pair prompts them to abruptly put their arm in front of him, holding him back from advancing even a step further. There's a pregnant pause, a little snarl audible only because of their silence. ]
...And you're sure it'll work. [ Their voice is stern, but quiet as they keep their eyes forward, watching carefully for more movement. ] I don't want a repeat of the well.
[ If that last bit sounds a little like a threat, that's because it is. ]
[ So it's the moon, not just night time in general, that caused the wolves to be active? The more you know. ]
Well, I did think it was strange that the moon has been full for a few nights in a row. I didn't know it was related to the issue.
[ They step a little back towards the library, as if expecting him to follow. This new hint is giving them incentive to search for something else. ]
But with your travels, you should already know that a lunar pattern like this should be astrologically impossible. It seems deliberate, given the sudden appearance of those things.
In terms you might understand, [ Since they don't have the greatest impression of his intelligence in these first 45 seconds of knowing him. ] A crystal.
[ They cross their arms, glancing at the plant again before staring at him. With all the times they've guessed incorrectly on other inhabitants of the town, they can't quite decide if he's human or not from visual alone. ]
As long as mortals with no way to defend themselves stay out of the way. This is different from those other times, someone could really get killed.
[ Those bird things? Annoying, but not awful. The shadows were dangerous, but not to the in-your-face extent that these are...they're finding that at this point they'd almost prefer that talking furniture. From their perspective, human lives are already really short, so for them to get ended even sooner over something as nasty as those walking dog things... it'd just be sad. ]
Are you planning on staying out here and destroying them?
Those things' teeth will break before they can get one of my arms off.
[ This is a scientifically proven theory as of the last few nights. There's a second where they rub their temple, looking as mildly visibly annoyed as they usually do, but now with 25% more anxiousness as opposed to the flat nonchalance of their previous encounter. He's a strange one, that's for sure, but he's also one of the few immortals which they can relate to, so they put up with it. ]
That immunity is really the main reason why I'd do the same thing. [ It's the logical thing to do... they could do it without even putting themself at risk, so why not. It's not like they care or anything(!!!!!), it's just common sense. ] Not to sacrifice myself in someone's stead like you have.
[ For some reason they'd thought his immortality might make him immune? Things that couldn't die shouldn't be able to get infected by things, after all. ]
