Event Two.

Dust if you must, but bear this in mind,
Old age will come and it's not kind.
And when you go, as go you must,
You yourself will make more dust!

t hasn’t been long since you’ve arrived. The dust has settled, so to speak. And there is… a lot of dust. The town is in disrepair. Some efforts have gone into making it a bit better, but it’s going to be a lot of work, there’s no denying that. There are only a few livable buildings right now, and even those are prone to letting the rain in, or missing stairs to the clearly present second floor, floors crumbling or creaking.

So it is that after a week or so to get used to their new living quarters.... There’s finally activity on the forum. Activity that doesn’t come from any of the people living here.

There’s a stickied forum post, and in it, a single post, from a user FFFFFF:

All-endearing cleanliness,
Virtue next to godliness,
Easiest, cheapest, needfull’st duty,
To the body health and beauty;
Who that’s human would refuse it,
When a little water does it?

Requirements: Everyone

They only have a bit of time to try to figure out what, exactly, it wants from them -- and then things begin to happen.

[Guren catches the skull a little too easily, first in one hand, and the other coming up to sandwich it between them. It's still a gentle hold, since he's glancing down to see just what it is—

A human skull. His hands turn it a little, his eyes narrowing as he inspects it. A real human skull...?]

Where the hell did you find this?

Under a loose floorboard in the closet. [ It's not like he was trying to help clean, but when you see a suspiciously loose floorboard in the house you're squatting in, you're bound to investigate... right? There could be something useful in it. ]

The rest of the skeleton is there, but I thought this was enough. [ He leans against the doorframe, because standing hurts less and less everyday, but he's still healing from a deep muscle injury. ]

There's no sign of trauma that I saw. [ He didn't look that closely, admittedly. ]

[Huh. It's alarming that it was just there, and now it has him wondering. Why would it be in the closet? Yata's closet, he assumes?]

Shouldn't you be asking your boyfriend why he has something like that in there? [He's joking, of course, as flat as it is. It wouldn't belong in the floor boards. He steps forward, brushing past Fushimi with the skull still in hand to go to the source of this.]

[ Fushimi follows at a sedate, limping pace. The limp is better, at least, but it still hasn't gone away entirely, in part because Fushimi won't stay off it, but maybe it's good to walk around! It'll prevent, uh, blood clots? ]

I'm not telling him. [ Yata's not great with ghosts, please understand, he'll never sleep in that room again. ]

We should check the rest of the house.

By ripping up all the floor boards? This place is falling apart enough as it is.

[He complaints, but he passes the skull back to Fushimi, and then ducks back ahead into this closet. He's getting out the rest of it, it sounds like, and he's not questioning the Yata thing.]

But I don't really want to live over bodies, so we have to anyway. Ugh. This thing doesn't have anything left on it... How long has it been here?

I haven't seen any signs that animals have been in the house. [ Which just begs the mystery of how a seemingly perfectly intact skeleton can be there without any meat on the bones, without any signs of trauma, without any... real information. ]

It's like they just curled up and died a thousand years ago. [ Except they should be mummified rather than ... skeletal, but Fushimi hasn't done that much information into how dead bodies deteriorate. ]

Yeah... but they're still perfectly in tact, without any of the pieces missing.

[He's finding that out now as he pulls out more of the bones. Bits and parts, a full skeleton.] No cobwebs, and there's no dirt, so it's not like this was pulled out of a grave...

There's no one here who'd try a sick prank like that on you two, right?

They're the cleanest thing in this place. [ Everything else is dusty and deteriorated, but the corpses -- ignoring that there's no skin or meat on them -- are startlingly clean. It's a bit, uh, unsettling. ]

There isn't anyone here I know from home, as far as I'm aware, and I haven't made any outright enemies. [ A beat, and then -- ] Misaki doesn't like ghosts, so it would be more effective on him than me, but most people don't know that.

[ Fushimi's apathy would probably overpower most ghosts. ]

I would have sensed if someone broke in, anyway.

[So it extra makes no sense. Pulling out the last bone, and double checking, he sighs as he puts things back into place and turns back to the pile he's created. It's a full skeleton. Every bone, not a piece missing.]

I'll have to take it out to the forest and put it to rest. [What else could he do?]

If that's the sort of thing you're concerned with. [ Fushimi isn't much for traditional burials, but then, the only person he's really ever had to bury is his father -- who he'd really have liked to be able to murder with his own hands, honestly.

He shrugs a shoulder up, seemingly unconcerned by the idea of either burying it or not. ]

We should check the rest of the house for more, first.
