What: Akechi said nobody ever celebrated his birthday. It's not actually his birthday, but Lupin is going to celebrate it.

[ the idea itself came from the quest posted to the forum not too long ago, although Lupin remains unconvinced that two "reds" can fulfill it; after talking with Akechi, however, it turned from checking off a box to a personal mission. Who could listen to a friend talk about how they'd never had a birthday party before and not immediately want to throw one for him? Not someone as extravagant as Lupin, certainly.

It's a bit of a tight operation. After all, none of them exactly have a fixed schedule, and there's no way of knowing when it will start raining blood or when the bricks will start talking to them or who knows what else. Still, he's something of a pro at making these things work. A few days after he's sent out invitations, he waits for the perfect moment - when he knows Akechi will be out and not come back for some time - and then gathers the troops. All four of them.

So it may not be a big party. But he has a feeling that Akechi would probably prefer it that way. When he returns to his home, he'll find it strangely quiet - at least until he turns into the kitchen, at which point Lupin (and maybe some of the others) jump out quite excitedly. ]

[ there aren't any decorations or anything like that - just a few friends with a few presents and a bit of time to share with him. ]

[ If anything, he'd rather approach him to keep that present off him, to be honest. It's not that he doesn't appreciate the gesture, but it's so!! Silly!! ]

Is that an invitation? I don't make a habit of showing up unannounced to people's houses, but if that's the case, I suppose I could drop by and make sure you are not overworking yourself.

[ And of course he's still wearing his usual Pleasant Boy smile as he says this, but there's definitely a slightly smug flair to it. He's never going to let this go, Guren. ]

No way. I'm not answering the door unless it's an emergency.

[The big liar... He's caught. Come over any time, Akechi! The truth is in the tsun, in the affectionate way he bumps the back of his hand against Akechi's shoulder, like he can't even be bothered to push him.]

Is terrorizing me really what you want to bother with on your birthday? Go find a piñata to hit instead.

[ How tsun, Guren! But Akechi can see past the rough exterior, so he only giggles at the response-- and the light bump, too. At least he doesn't look genuinely annoyed, like Sae did on occasion. ]

If you think showing concern for your well-being equals terrorizing, then perhaps it is Guren-san who is in need of a piñata. I hear it makes for excellent stress relief!

[ Blindly swinging a bat around then striking the piñata down with full force blows... Akechi, at least, would love to take out some of his anger and frustrations like that. ]

[He cracks his knuckles, as if he's considering it, but of course he's not. The rest of his body language is lazy, still, and he's just kind of putting up with this heckling.]

[ Akechi laughs yet again in response, though he does take a step back as though in fear-- it's all for show, really. What a tsun, Guren... ]

A-ah, would you really go for the kill without so much as giving me a fighting chance? At least let us have a proper duel!

[Okay, Guren snorts at that.]

You think you'd stand a chance at all? Alright. Any time you want a proper duel, you let me know.

[ A chuckle. ] I might surprise you one day.

[ It's true, Completely Ordinary Boy Akechi wouldn't stand a chance against Guren. But he has to wonder, how a Persona would fare against a demon sword... Hmm.

But! It's not time for that reveal yet, so: ] I have secured some swordsmanship lessons from Nanjo-san as a prize, back at the friendship tournament. I would probably be no match to you in a real duel, but I could at least defend myself in a piñata beating!

Hahah. So, you'd go for learning a sword, or is that just because it was what was offered to you?

Hmm... I suppose it is both. It was the prize I won, but I do think taking sword lessons could prove to be very useful in this place. Besides, doesn't it remind you a little of super sentai heroes?

[ Did... Guren have sentai heroes in his world, that's actually a good question. ]

[Yes, his world was modern and just like ended in 2012. God I hate that.]

Not at all. [HE HATES THAT TOO] I was taught to use a sword since before I could remember, so I don't really associate it with anything other than my family and being a weapon.

...Still, that means if you really do want to learn, and you take those lessons, I can tell you how you're doing. As long as I don't have to do any work myself. [lazy]

[ WOW GUREN DON'T BE SUCH A WET BLANKET, let Akechi be a little boy and enjoy his super sentai!! ]

Oh, I do intend to. [ He... ran on a little problem before, but shh! ] Still, isn't it a little unfair to have my swordsmanship judged by a Lieutenant Colonel when I'm being taught by someone who only does it as a hobby?

[ Do the thing, Guren. Do it. ]

I don't care. I'll go easy on grading you.

Absolutely not. [ He looks so offended, Guren. So!! Offended!! ] If I'm to learn, then I wish to be properly evaluated-- in a fair, but also accurate manner. Doing it simply to appease my own ego would hardly help me in a real battle.

[ He's just a Poor, Defenseless Boy, Guren!! Do the thing!! ]

Oh yeah? Haha, just don't go thinking you want to spar me before you ask Akira about that.

[KNIFE FIGHTS IN THE BEDROOM, that's life with Guren and Akira.] But fine. I'll tell you honestly how you're doing, if you want that.

I would appreciate it. I am not the type to engage in any activity without giving it my all, you see.
