t first, it seems a little too simple for a true test of morals. Don't eat, don't take, don't look? The most basic of requirements. And with guides, it isn't too difficult at all to avoid those obvious pitfalls. At least, until the Town's suddenly far, far too empty, almost eerily so -- until there's nobody there but your fellow reds, or blues or yellows, in a town that is far too big for just a portion of the people there. [Does Ling know that Mafuyu is Egg Girl, infamous for badly boiling eggs he had to eat all of?! Who knows, anyway, he's here--]

Don't you feel that? [The bird pecking?! Girl-] Ah, I think I'm obligated to be responsible in this situation and say no...

[ The eggs were edible!! They were just very very overdone and also badly misshapen because she cracked the eggs before dropping them into the pot and letting them harden into this horribly deformed mass of egg. ]

I think I've gotten used to it. [ The bird pecking... ]

And you don't have to be responsible and say no! You can be irresponsible and say yes! Say yes!!

[They sucked. They were terrible. They were gross and he ate every single one and complained about them, but still ate them, and Greed had to put up with his whining about it. See what you did, Mafuyu.

Anyway, he's a little concerned about this pecking thing, so he sort of... reaches over and... tries to get the bird to stop with some clever waving. Dangerous game.]

No, I don't think so! Maybe after we deal with this—

[buncho]

[ The bird has had a lot of practice dodging Mafuyu's hand, but if Ling wants to sacrifice his fingers, he gets a sharp snap at them too. Hers is a very ornery bird, unfortunately, crabby and exasperated and at the end of its patience in having to deal with Mafuyu. ]

Oh crap, is it biting? I was trying to feed it, but I can't touch any of the food, so I dunno what to do.

[Ack!! He's still trying, terrible finger sacrifice aside. He doesn't seem to have a bird of his own anymore, gee, who could have totally murdered that bird...?! It's a mystery.]

Maybe if you stopped asking people to give you food, it would calm down!

[ NO REALLY, DID HE MURDER IT?? ]

Is that why it's mad? How else am I supposed to get food if I can't get people to give 'em to me?

[ The alternative, just forgetting about food, is automatically off the table. ]

[GREED DID... Ling is innocent.]

Don't you have your own food? What have you been doing since we got here?

[Ling has his own strategically hidden apples... get on his level.]

[ Mafuyu shakes her head. She isn't smart enough to stock up on any sort of food, especially since she can't cook any of it properly to turn into a decent meal, and she's always been the sort of person who lives off weekly allowances and never plans further than the day by day. It's been working out. ]

I go out and ask people if they have food to spare. [ Like a beggar. Shameless. ] Most of the time people do, so I come inside and join them for lunch or whatever.

[Ling can't judge, he broke into people's houses for food on the first day-- it sounds perfectly reasonable, but really, she should stock up on apples... learn from him. He sighs.]

Fine, then, I'll give you some food. You won't have to fight the bird for it.

[buncho]

Yes!! Give me your leftovers! What were you cook—

[ ...wait, oh no ]

Did you cook your bird? You're not allowed to cook mine either!

No! [NO, JESUS--] It's just-- well it is dead, but I didn't eat it! I didn't kill it, either!

[buncho]

[ She keeps it up with the wholly untrusting eyes ]

If you didn't kill it, it shouldn't be dead. What happened? What'd you do?

Greed killed it. [You know, probably trying to feed him, but regardless-- at least Ling isn't a bird murderer.] You just can't stop him when he decides to do that kind of thing...

[buncho]

You can stop him! Just slap him on the back of the hand and say "NO!"

[ Like a child. It's a proven method that works for everybody else she's ever had to deal with, anyways. But anyways, she doesn't know where Ling lives, but she does know where Greed's house is and Greed's house had food in it, so that's where she's trotting off towards to get her free meal. ]

[Well, good call, because Ling most definitely lives in Greed's house and doesn't bother with his own unless he wants to use the laptop-- he's convinced it doesn't work, anyway, here they go.]

That doesn't work every time! He's fussy.

[buncho]

[ Like a child... ]

But you guys are friends, right? If you're sincere about it, he'll listen to you. Just go "Hey, Mister Greed, stop killing birds! Cut that out!!" and maybe he'll say okay.

I'm not going to call him Mister Greed. [God, he can't even imagine. He'd never live it down.] It's too late now, anyway!
