Intro Log.

It's raining, it's pouring.
The old man is snoring.
He bumped his head and went to bed
And he couldn't get up in the morning.

ou wake in knee-deep water, cold as ice and stagnant, in a space that is far too echoey and spacious. It feels like a massive cave, but looking up... there's only one small, circular opening that shows grey sky and shines any sort of light.

It looks like a long trip upwards, a small cylinder with walls of brick that's just a little too high to reach, even when jumping. Getting out is probably going to be a bit of a task, especially considering the water is more than cold enough to make limbs go numb.

The dark makes it impossible to see much further, but the space seems large, all filled with water, but with no other way out, stone walls the only thing for an intrepid explorer to find. Oh, and to make things even better, it's raining today. Water from below (though thankfully only like, knee-deep), and water from above... how fun.

But most importantly of all... you're not alone.

Welcome to Awash's second intro log, everyone! Please review the FAQ and rules before playing. New characters have all woken at the bottom of the well in the middle of the town (which seems a lot bigger on the inside, somehow), and it looks like they'll have to put in some work to get out. Thankfully, they have some friends on the outside, this time.

Once out, they'll be free to explore the various locations the Town has to offer at will. Just try not to die on any of the far-too-rickety walkways.

[There are footsteps rushing in his direction and it's only out of a small glimmer of hope that Mika looks over... only to be disappointed that it's not the person he thought it would be. He holds back a bitter laugh. Of course it isn't. If it had been Yuu, he would have been shouting Mika's name.

Still, when it's clear that the teen isn't running past him but stops next to him - he doesn't turn away completely. Though it is only just his head turned in Minato's direction.

At the moment, Mika doesn't see this guy as a threat. Especially not when a towel is thrust at him.]

You should save it for someone who needs it. I won't get sick from something like this.

[Oh. Huh. He won't get sick from the wet...?

Minato's not sure if it's bravado or some actual part of this guy--there are so many strange people here that he can't deny the possibility.

Still...]

Even if you won't get sick, it can't be comfortable to be that wet, can it...?

[So yeah.

He's still holding out the towel.]

[No bravado at all, just the simple truth of the matter.

Mika doesn't even know this guy's name but he's already reminded of someone - a persistent, innocent-seeming kid who likely won't give up until the towel is taken.]

I can live with uncomfortable. Surely there are others who need it more.

[Just like he still doesn't reach for it.]

[It's fine.

He'll be patient, just casually holding that towel out.]

I have others. I'll grab those, and give them to the other people who need them more.

[And a shrug, peaceful.]

I won't force you if you really don't want it, but... I don't think you should have to live with uncomfortable.

[Mika stares.

And stares some more.

Then sighs and reaches out to take the towel with a gloved hand.]

There, now you can move on to passing out towels to other people.

[Mika doesn't move to use the towel on his wet clothes but drapes it over his hair instead.]

Just how many times have you needed to do this here?

[He's satisfied! So long as Mika took it, he can't really ask for much more, his hand dropping back to his side again, and then tucked into his pocket.]

Actually, this is the first time.

[Yep.]

Last time, it was all of us arriving in the well like you guys. I was starting to think it wouldn't happen again, but...

[Wishful thinking.]

[Letting the towel stay drapped over his head, his hands rest at his side as well. They just stay there.]

So we're only the second group to arrive here.

[A small musing noise. So Yuu could show up in the future.]

How long ago did you arrive?

[A peaceful nod at that. It's fine, they can just stand here for now; Minato doesn't seem to mind.]

That's right. It's been two months, so... you can see why I thought nobody else was going to show up.

[He isn't taking the blame if the other gets sick from standing around with him.]

Has anyone left in that time?

[It's fine... no blame to be had here.]

... Yes, a few people have. [One person he was particularly close to, so it's a sore topic, though he keeps his expression relatively measured.]

They...seem to disappear into the forest. Someone has gone home and returned, even, so... the theory is they've returned home that way, somehow.

So they wander into the forest and just don't come back then.

[Even more reason for him to go check it out - see how far out he can go.]

Yeah.

[A beat, and:]

Please don't go into the woods alone, though. They're really, really dangerous. [It's an obvious assumption, really--they'd all wanted to go into the woods when they first arrived.]

Whatever might be in the woods is far less dangerous than what's in town.

[At least that's his opinion. Even if it's obvious that these aren't the humans of his world, Mika still doesn't trust them. After all, humans are just as bad as vampires.]

... What do you mean? None of the monsters or anything make it into the town--

[He doesn't understand what Mika means at all, really.]

Humans can be monsters too.

[His own parents were pretty terrible, the ones who experimented on them.]

[... huh. That's not what he was expecting at all. Minato blinks slowly, clearly taken a bit off-guard at that, before he just slowly tilts his head.

And when he speaks, his tone is neutral, but gently curious.]

Why do you say that?

[He's seen humanity at its worse, he thinks--he knows people are capable of truly monstrous things. But this young man... he said that without hesitation.

(What has he been through, he wonders...?)]

I've witnessed it and suffered at the hands of humans. There are some that are no better than beasts or things they might consider a monster.

[Mikaela isn't too interested in spilling every single detail of his horrible life at the hands of humans. Or how his adopted siblings were once abused by their own blood relatives.]

So that's how it is...

[He definitely doesn't need Mika's life story for that--honestly, he believes him. How could he not? Not when there's that much pain in his voice, when his feelings are clearly that strong.

...]

I'm sorry... to hear that you've suffered like that. I know it doesn't mean anything, but... I really am.

[He says that much quietly; he has to say something, after all.]

Why are you apologizing? You haven't done anything wrong.

[Yet, his mind supplies. Honestly, Mika had been over his parents' abuse a long time ago - they had died shortly after getting rid of him. There was no point in dwelling on the dead, especially not someone who had hurt him.]

I simply learned early on that humans were monsters too.

No, but...

[Even so, humans have hurt him, right? They've caused him enough pain that this is how he feels...]

I'm still sorry that you've been through so much. That's just... how I feel.

[Because he can't deny that some humans can be monsters, but not all humans are monsters--not that that's what he's concerned with right now.]

It was something I got over a long time ago. I found a better family than them. Then all but one died.

[Killed, more like.

Losing the siblings he had adopted at the orphanage had hurt much worse than losing his parents. Once upon a time Mika hadn't been so against humans but he's seen what they're capable of.]

Life isn't fair, I've accepted that fact. [Says the guy who doesn't look older than 18.]

[Yeah... Minato knows that life can be hard for children especially, when they have no power to stop it from happening--

But it doesn't make it any less upsetting. His family died... just like that. His found family. Minato thinks about losing more of SEES, and feels his heart seize up.]

... It's not, sometimes. You're right. But... you still shouldn't have had to go through all of that pain.

[That's all.]
