But ah... as fleeting as Tokugawa's appearance had been, Tonbokiri's smile fades. Mutsu's yet to experience the sudden loss of anyone here so this is news to him. He looks surprised by the news. People don't just disappear but this place works differently. Was he spirited away? Could any of them be spirited away at any moment? Could Tonbokiri be here one moment and gone the next?
"Of course he'd praise ya." The old master isn't here; neither is their new one. So in the absence of both, Mutsu will give praise where it's due. "Look at ya. You're one of the strongest and most reliable guys I know. Where ever he is right now, I bet he's bragging to the whole world about ya."

Ah, so he'd not heard about people being gone suddenly. Tonbokiri is sorry to have sprung that on him, but he would have to know eventually. Either one of them could be so spirited away at any time.
Then all of the sudden, Mutsunokami is praising him so much! Why this? His back ridged, he turns his face away from his friend for a moment. But that quietly pleased smile returns.
"You- you're saying too much... so suddenly..." A long pause while he collects himself, then he turns back. "Thank you for saying so, though. You are a great encouragement, Mutsunokami-dono. I'm glad that I could speak to you about this."
