A lubricant I made using animal fat. The primary purpose of lubricant is to reduce friction between moving parts, which improves function and reduces wear.

Alright, the first thing we're going to do is pour the water down the barrel and plug it with a rag. Hot water is preferable since it dries before rust can set in.

That makes sense! Is it from the deer?
[They're the biggest, fattiest animal around. It makes sense but she would never have thought it up without being told. She nods along to all the new bits of information and internalizes them. It's a good thing she's such a good student and only has to hear something once to understand the reason behind it. Although that doesn't stop her from asking more and more questions.]
You sure know a lot. Were you a hunter or in the military like Mister Guren?
[He doesn't look like a hunter though so...]

[ The failed quest had left him with several dead geese and more than enough fat for cooking, so he decided to use some of it to make the lubricant instead. Animals can be used in plenty of ways that don't involve eating them—tendons and sinew can be used to make thread, strings for bows and ties for arrows. Not that they need to when thread and other material can be found in the many abandoned houses, but it's good to know in case they ever run out.
Picking up the rifle, Ryo props it so the butt is on the floor and begins to pour the water down the barrel, carefully so it doesn't spill. He pauses briefly at the question and spares her a glance. ]
I hunt demons. [ Used to, technically; there's no need to go on hunts anymore now that the general public knows about the existence of demons. It's the government's job to deal with the demon threat now. ] They're ferocious creatures. A human cannot defeat a demon without tools and weapons.
[ He says, setting the kettle back down on the table and stuffs one of the rags into the muzzle, making sure it's thoroughly plugged before giving the weapon a vigorous shake. ]
