Even when the starry sky dissolves at dawn

WHO: Literally anyone and everyone
WHERE: The Town
WHEN: May 3rd, evening
WHAT: The town's regained both some aspects of evening and a starry night sky. Stargazing is clearly in order.
WARNINGS: All that good pure cute, probably.

The town is just a little bit different today. Color has returned to some objects, even phenomenon, and it has left others. Slowly but surely, things are changing.

In some cases, very big things are changing.

Maybe someone looks out a window, maybe they're out late in the evening. At around 6pm, the sky takes on it's normal hue, just for a moment. And later, as darkness falls....

The stars blink into existence, one by one.

[He knows Akechi is right, even though he doesn't want to admit it.

Of course they all care about him, his friends back home. He shouldn't keep them in the dark on things that are bothering him, but he doesn't want to worry them, either.

And there are other reasons he must keep secrets from Akechi, as well.

But that blanket draping over him throws his brain off track, and for a moment, he sits still, feeling the warm weight of the blanket from where it's absorbed heat from Akechi, and the warmth of his own body, under the blanket, where they almost touch.

Then his brain catches up with the rest of him, and he smiles a little. Cheeky.]

So you do care about me.

[It's a tease. It's also maybe a stalling tactic.]

[ He sees that response for what it is-- both the teasing and and the stalling, so he'll match Akira in kind. ]

Hard though you might make it, yes. Caring for someone so reckless is incredibly taxing, you see.

[ There. It's teasing, but also a well-timed jab at his (predictable) dodging techniques.

(And maybe, maybe it's a hint of open honesty, too. Caring for anyone but himself is more than Akechi is willing to handle, but caring for his enemy, and the one person who he will most likely have to kill in the future? That is overwhelming, and painful, and way, way too dangerous, if he still wants to carry on with his original plans. And yet, here he is, like a moth to a flame.) ]

But, if you won't talk to me, then I can at least make sure you won't catch a cold. [ There's a soft chuckle at that, light-hearted. He's pressed on the issue enough for one night, so he's going to let it go for now. ] If our Leader were to fall sick, that might affect the entire team, wouldn't it?

[Ah, there it is again. He gives an indignant huff at the idea that he's reckless, but doesn't protest more than that. After all, Akechi is cooperating by helping him change the subject.

(He can't help but wonder if he really means that, though. About caring for Akira.)]

You guys would be fine.

[Or maybe they wouldn't. Isn't that why he insists on keeping everything hidden for their benefit?

Well, never mind that. He settles in a bit more comfortably, letting the blanket warm him.]

It is nicer like this, though.

[ Hmmm. Did he mean it? Did he not? Stay tuned for this and even more thrilling answers...!

Still, despite all the new information he's just learned about and how utterly pissed off they had made him, Akechi had made up his mind on using this night to have some time to himself and maybe try to relax some. It's hard, it's always hard, but eventually he always manages to bury his anger deep down, and carry on with a pleasant smile on his face. This isn't much different.

So he follows suit, and tries to let go of their back and forth, and just settles in with a sigh, readjusting his side of the blanket over his own body. There, all snug and nice. ]

If you were cold, you could have told me earlier, you do realize? Or was that supposed to be a secret, too?

[ Well. Maybe he can't drop it completely, but at least his tone is more friendly, and perhaps even a little amused. ]

...It's not that cold.

[It is a bit chilly, sure, but he was fine. He's done worse.

Maybe what he meant more... was that it's nice, being under a blanket with someone.]

It's nice to share the stars with others.

[ Well, just because he's done worse, doesn't mean he should needlessly endure the cold now! ]

Hmm, I agree. It is something we would normally take for granted back home, but in this place, somehow, it seems to hold special meaning.

[ Is he being honest, or is he just saying sounds like it would be nice for him to say? One can never be too sure. But, for what it's worth, he does agree that it's nice to share a blanket like this, though this isn't something Akira mentioned out loud. It's... warm, and surprisingly comfortable. ]

Ah, though I suppose I should apologize? [ Though he's giggling as he says this, so it's probably nothing serious. ] Considering this is your first time, you would probably have preferred to have a cute girl to share a blanket and watch the stars with. Hopefully, you won't find my company too disappointing, haha.

[A cute girl, huh...? Hmm...]

...Not necessarily.

[He dons a sly smile, though doesn't look at Akechi, eyes still on the stars.]

I think sharing it with a cute boy is good too. Even if he is a detective.

[He knocks his blanketed knee into Akechi's as a show that he's just teasing.]

[ In between that offhanded comment about a cute boy and the knee bumping, Akechi is caught by mild surprise, blinking a couple of times as he tries to process everything.

Still... "Not necessarily" a cute girl, huh? Is he just being facetious, or does he really mean what it sounds like he means...? ]

For what it's worth, my plan was to simply get some time to myself and relax. I don't intend to do any investigations tonight.

[ And that also means he's not going to push for more information regarding a certain... revelation. He's found out enough for now. ]

So, consider this my evening off. If it's detectives you have an issue with, then I hope you won't have a problem with just Akechi.

[ Cute boy Akechi. Yup. ]

Just Akechi is just fine.

[He's still smiling, shifting so he's a little closer to Akechi now (on purpose? maybe). He's not lying when he says this is nice.

Though, when he turns over what Akechi said in his head...]

But maybe I'm the one interrupting you, if you just wanted some alone time.

[Maybe he should leave? He looks at Akechi now, only somewhat sheepish.

But seriously, is he just now figuring that out??]

[ Uh, yes? Figuring out Akira's sexual orientation is surprisingly not a part of his investigation, though he may have had the occasional suspicion before.

Still, he notices how Akira moves closer, and a smile that is just about the opposite of what he might expect from the ever cocky and self-assured Joker, and he really has to wonder how they are the same person at all. Has to wonder how he, somehow, ended up so fond of both sides of his fated enemy's personality, too. By all means, Akechi should tell him off with an affable excuse and a polite bow of his head, reclaim the peaceful solitude he had sought, but-- ]

I don't mind. Quiet time can be shared, too.

[ Alas, he is too weak, still. ]

Besides, your presence is rather relaxing, in its own right-- silent, but constant. Like having a purring cat in the room.

...A purring cat?

[Is it like he's purring? Hmm...

But he doesn't really seem offended, just bemused at the comparison. Still, he gets what Akechi is saying. That they can just relax together, and not talk. A comfortable silence.

Akira is always comfortable with silence, even if most of his other friends aren't. And so he settles back in again, and looks up.

He doesn't say anything more, unless Akechi speaks to him first. The purring cat laying down to doze.]

[ Yes, the biggest purring cat ever.

Still, Akira will be left to figure that one out for himself, as Akechi doesn't particularly feel like offering an explanation, or even talking much at all. His evening has nearly been ruined as it is, and it's hard to keep his rage under control, but he's got years of experience with this, enough to at least not let it show. Just leave him alone with his thoughts, somehow that tends to work.

So he settles back in, himself, reaches for his mug and takes a sip from his drink; it's barely lukewarm by now, but still good enough. It's soothing, somehow. And while he's at it, should he...? Hmm.

Without a word, Akechi passes the mug along, a silent offer for a sip. It's not quite coffee, but it will have to do. ]

[Akira raises an eyebrow in surprise at the offer, not expecting it. But then he smiles, a soft huff of a fond laugh leaving his lips, before he takes the cup and takes a small sip.

Certainly not coffee... but still nice. He feels warm, and not just from the drink and the blanket.

He gives the mug back, sighing happily. It really is a nice night.]

[ Why so surprised, Akira? This is just payment for all the coffee, nothing else.

Still, he has to admit the general atmosphere is nice-- peaceful, even, despite how rocky it had been at first. Like this, he really does find Akira's presence comforting, soothing, and it's what he imagines having someone's disinterested support must feel like. Like this, they're not enemies, or even rivals; they're something they could have been, once.

If only they never had to speak again. If only they could stay in comfortable silence forever.

But, instead of dwelling on useless hypotheticals, he decides to seize the here and now, take this rare opportunity to relax and fully enjoy it. With a last sip, he empties his mug and leaves it aside, then leans back again, head against the wall. Provided Akira doesn't ruin the moment, he might even start drifting off like this... ]

[Akira has settled in too, and hasn't moved in quite some time. The silence is nice; the stars are nice; the warmth is nice.

He's starting to feel sleepy.

He doesn't feel like moving, so he stays where he is. For the time being, they're safe. Things are okay here, right now.

If only it could be like this forever.

If Akechi drifts off, he might not notice, because he'll already be long gone to sleep, himself.]

[ Well, it might be a good thing that Akira has long gone to sleep, so he won't witness Akechi slowly drifting off, and feeling more and more relaxed, until his head just sort of... drops to one side, leans on Akira's shoulder.

Maybe he'll be embarrassed about this later, even more so if Akira manages to stir awake before he does, but right now? That's all inconsequential. Right now, he's safe, comfortable, more so than he has felt in so long he can't even remember. Everything is just right.

If only right now. ]
