I'd like to creep into the wood And see the bonnets blue, And hear the bluebells ringing loud, I wish I could -- don't you?
t's another day, another month, and another time for people to show up in the well. You'd better go rescue them! Never mind the fact that you woke up with a flower in your hands.
It's probably fine. Don't mind it at all. It's not like it's hard to ignore a little flower.
(At least, not until the effects start to kick in. Better go rescue the people in the well before they do.)
Oh, right. Even the people in the well have flowers, so... things are going to be a little ridiculous very quickly, when all of those side effects kick in. Have fun!

We were attacked by dragons recently. Almost kicked the bucket that time. And that's to say nothing of the mutated animals wandering the forest and the creatures that come up on the quest page of the forum...
[It's only natural for nature to grow unimpeded; Duo's tone, however, suggests that there's more to the forest than this. Somnus doesn't recall being told much about the encroaching trees.]
Duo sighed and set his project down, taking a moment to recall the story that had been unfolding on the quest page, specifically the last few entries.]
"But the forest appeared to have crept closer to the town, and the town itself began to lose the color it had treasured for so long. More and more of the townsfolk began to succumb to the curse that the young man had unleashed, and as more of them disappeared, the forest drew closer still.
Until there was no one left and the town was silent and drab."
[Somnus drops his gaze, staring at a spot on the church floor as he listens to Duo and commits the details of the story to memory. One man had told him that the cause of color loss in Chroma was shrouded in mystery. Is this not the answer, or do they know too little to reach an educated conclusion?]
The forest had stopped. What caused it to resume its march?
[Lifting his head, Somnus rounds the pew to look elsewhere around the church. He catches a glimpse of Duo as he walks by.
Questions and thoughts run through his mind. Can naught be done about the forest, and is it actively stealing color from the surroundings? If fewer arrivals are emerging from the well, will the restoration of color manage to rival the speed of its loss? Is the story credible? What happened to the people who vanished; does a similar end await the people here now? Once so informed of the world's fate, Somnus finds himself at a loss now. ]
Chroma is in a far more dire state than I had first believed.
Duo seems to feel the weight of it, too, though not for the first time and likely not for the last. His motivation to continue with his task withers away, seeming futile when they were facing such a daunting fate.]
[Normally he wouldn't be so prone to such moods, but the flower was already messing with his usual emotions and it wasn't like that sort of realization could just be brushed off in a second.
The question did help to pry him away from it, though, and he points at a window.]
Outside. I got a generator recently, it's just modifying objects to be able to use it that takes a lot of time.
There must be others who can carry out those same modifications.
[Given Chroma's current state, time is of the essence. It's questionable how much electricity might change the situation, but technology is ever capable of performing wondrous feats; it is also, as he understands it, frequently worked on through collaboration among multiple engineers.]
[Duo gives a shrug, picking up another lantern as he begins the process of disassembling it.]
I chose to take this on myself. I've had some help but no one's really come forward with the same skill-set, so unless they're just not talking, I might be the only actual mechanic-slash-engineer in Chroma.
[And Somnus, who is unable to contribute, has no intention of interfering. Duo has allegedly loafed around for nine months. Adding an additional month to that is unnecessary. Thus, Somnus heads for the church doors.]
I will take my leave, that you might find your focus in these tranquil halls.
Duo wasn't expecting that at all (though really there was no reason for Somnus to simply hang around while he worked) but it still made his skewed emotions from that damned flower react. He started to protest, to say 'you don't have to go', but even with the flower affecting him he knew it was an irrational feeling.
"... thanks. Take care."
It was like pulling needles out of his cheek to say that, but he managed it despite looking like he was actually in physical pain to do so.

[Right to the point.]

I noticed the forest is a part of town.
[Considering that, it's nothing short of a miracle that monsters have yet to infest the town itself.]

[There's a resigned tone, one of reluctant acceptance that they've likely done all they can to keep it from doing so.]
It wasn't always like that. Even when I got here it hadn't started yet.

What does its advance herald?

A curse, I think. I'd have to re-read the story again. The last part was added pretty recently so that's why I remember it so clearly.
