Versus Trees
WHO: Tonbokiri and Nyx
WHERE: The edge of town
WHEN: June 5
WHAT: At Nyx's suggestion, they're going to cut back some trees to facilitate fence building to keep the forest out of town.
WARNINGS: None
It has the makings of another sunny and mild day when Tonbokiri makes his way to the agreed location. He rolls his shoulders slowly, stretching out before what is sure to be a day of intense physical labour. Of course, this much is nothing, but it is the side-effects of cutting down trees he worries about.
In one hand he carries a carefully sharpened axe, and in the other his spear. He is wearing his orange 'work yukata', with the sleeves tied back. A small detail, but on his beaded bracelet, there is also the bead Nyx gave him.
He is completely ready for today's work!
But first, he had an idea he would like to pass by his comrade before trying it. So he is particularly glad to see Nyx-dono and, shifting to carry the axe and his spear in one hand, he raises the other hand in greeting.

He's not dressed anywhere near as efficiently as Tonbokiri is, just worn pants and a sleeveless shirt that likely won't survive until noon, but he's prepared for the day in other ways. The bag at his feet has food and water for their breaks, plus a couple of towels and some first aid stuff just in case. Better to have them on hand than have to go running across town.
"Glad you came out. This'll go a lot faster with the two of us." Less time dealing with the side effects, he hopes.

And although he doesn't know Nyx was thinking it, being next to the forest's trees with the intention of cutting them easily brings the side-effects to mind.
"Nyx-dono, before we begin, I have an idea I would like to pass by you." Slipping his fingers into the cloth wrapping his torso, Tonbokiri draws out a tiny packet. "I received this medicine, that will prevent the mental effects of the Town upon me for one hour. However, it comes with side-effects that will incapacitate me physically for three hours thereafter.
"I would like to see if it will prevent the ... effects the trees are having upon us. However I will need you to strictly time me, so that I can get home before the illness strikes. And it would make me able to only assist you for one hour today... But what do you think?"
