Akechi | End of Event (4/23ish??)
Caramia's shadow was especially relentless with him. While others had their own ways to deal with their shadows, Caramia couldn't make his own light. He only knew how to run away from things, so, he did. Not that one could run away from their shadow, but he could scamper off and avoid its tripping attempts to find some sort of light, and it... certainly didn't seem to appreciate that a tactic like that was somehow actually working. As a result, it's attempts became more and more harsh, eventually deciding it's best bet was so scare Caramia off to Bluo. It pulled bricks out from under Caramia, or dropped shingles down from roofs, or, god forbid, even pulled unstable structures over him.
The worst of it, was that when Caramia realized (a bit too late) that he was so close to the water's edge, there was a sharp tug at his ankles, and with a sharp, panicked yelp, he crashed down into the awful, freezing water below. Of course, it wasn't as if the water had much of a current, but it's still rather had to try swimming out of something when there was a force actively pulling you down. It's probably fine. He's... probably fine. Right? ]

Really, he's been wandering about town and shooting shadows at random because, while only a toy, his ray gun is an actual source of light and effective against them, but mostly because he's downright pissed off at them since his last run-in with one of them. One who took on a dangerous shape, took his color and feelings - took his powers with it. A Persona is nothing but a manifestation of a person's soul; without a heart, they can't exist.
But he's back to himself now, and Fate seems to have given him a chance for revenge, albeit in a much smaller scale than the one he planned back home. He takes what he can, even the most immediate satisfaction from shooting these shadows down, one by one. The fact it might earn him a reputation as a hero and a little praise is a very welcome bonus, though.
This time, his path of revenge has led him to Bluo-- the river, more specifically. And the first thing he notices is... movement, little ripples on the surface. Unusual, for water that isn't current. So he hurries on, figuring it might be someone in trouble, and upon closer inspection, what he sees is-- ]
Caramia-san?!
[ He rushes over and extends his hand, leaning in as close as he can while still keeping his feet safely rooted in the riverbank. Was this guy just drowning like an idiot or... was this the work of a shadow? ]
Here, take my hand...!
I don't have good icons for this so take Caramia getting hosed down
Do you have to think this man is an idiot everytime you see him, Akechi? Damn. There's a part- and granted it is a very small part, since Caramia's dealing with the whole drowning thing right now- that is worried when he sees a hand outstretched for him. What if whoever was helping him was pulled in two? Or, even pushed in by their own shadow? Neither option seemed particularly nice, but...The more logical reasoning was to reach out for Akechi's hand. He's able to make out the words, and the voice as well, even with the water filling up his ears. It was a shame he was inconveniencing someone with this, all because Caramia didn't have many means on dealing with his own shadow, but he didn't have the luxury to let it be simply because he didn't want to be a burden. He was drowning, for fuck's sake.
Hopefully, he's able to help this old lion out without much hassle. Well, that is, if only he could actually grab on. Caramia's grasp fell short with just a simple brush against his would-be savior's before he was, instead, tugged harshly down under the water. It's a darn shame light interacts differently with water than it does with air, isn't it? Doesn't look like that's going to help much here at all. ]
poor dad!
Akechi's hand is quick to draw his gun - the toy ray gun he'd been using against shadows, that is - and he moves closer to the water's edge, trying to spot the shadow and take aim, but it's no use; it's just too dark to make out any concrete shapes, let alone something that blends right in with all shades of gray and black that can be seen. Would it even work if he were to shoot it from the surface, though? Without the power of cognition, this is just a toy, and while the light it produces is real, it might not be bright enough to hit the target. If only he could use his Persona, then surely...
No. That would mean revealing his secret, and by all means, that would be a stupid idea. He needs to think, come up with a different plan, and quick, or else Caramia would-- ]
Damn. [ In what may be an even stupider idea, he swiftly discards his jacket and shoes and dives straight in, gun in his dominant hand. Even from up close, there's not a lot he can distinguish, though he can take a reasonable guess. So he shoots once, twice, then one more time, feeble beams of light aimed in different directions - next to Caramia's left foot, the right leg, his midriff, places where his shadow could conceivably be grabbing on to and pulling. But is it even going to succeed?
Well. They can at least hope it won't further anger the shadow. ]
He deserves it.
How pathetic, he thought. He'd probably laugh about it later-- he was drowning and somehow the only thing he could think about was how much he was such an sad coward. Of course, the shadows did recede when the light came into contact with it, but in response, it just tugged Caramia down further. On top of that, the light only made it abundantly clear that if the shadow wasn't intending on drowning Caramia, it intended to rid whatever color he had instead. The ends of his fingers (which he desperately had reached out for Akechi) had a noticeable gray gradient to them, and the color lacked especially around his neck. All in all, it wasn't exactly a pretty sight.
Not that this was a primary concern of Caramia's. He had quite panicked movements, flailing about to, if not free himself of his shadow's hold, than to surface for air. Neither option seemed to be working out too well for him. ]
no!!
He makes it back to relative safety quick, but he can't rest yet, not while Caramia is still in danger. So he stands there, soaking wet and panting, eyes frantically searching the area, the lake, even Caramia himself for any more ideas, but instead what he finds is... gray. The same grayscale he had turned not too long ago, though to a lesser scale - his fingertips and neck, but it was continuously spreading, and the effect might as well be the same.
Memories of his time with Caramia suddenly flood his mind-- the day they all arrived and he showed him disinterested kindness for perhaps the first time in his life, the effusive displays of affection he always seemed to so easily dispense, the idiotic sort of optimism and his trust in others - his trust in Akechi, who wouldn't hesitate in leaving both him and Lupin behind for the sake of completing a quest - the genuine care he was shown his own color was stolen and his feelings were... gone. Was that what the shadows were after again? Akechi had nothing good to offer, so taking his emotions was fine, but...
Is he seriously just going to keep standing here, useless, and let the one person who had showered him, a stranger nobody kid, with nothing but kindness and understanding, lose his heart? Lose his smile? ]
Damn it...! [ It's hissed through gritted teeth, his hands closing tight into a pair of shaking fists. He hates this, hates not knowing what to do, hates letting his own stupid feelings get in the way of cold logic-- the same logic that tells him to leave, and keep his secret safe at the cost of some meaningless guy's life. By all means, it is what he should do.
But he doesn't. ]
Come, Robin Hood!
[ With a hand to his face, the long-nosed red mask manifests, followed by a powerful archer figure hovering above him. The next instruction is for a Kougaon spell, given without words: Robin Hood casts a blinding beam of light down on the lake, just far enough that it wouldn't hurt Caramia, but certainly strong enough to cast any darkness - any shadows away.
Except for the shadow of his doubts. That, it seems, is not going anywhere anytime soon. ]

But then there was something much harder to make out through the ripples of the water, and then... a flash of light. A very harsh one at that (if he had the luxury to complain, he probably would. Damn nocturnal eyes...), and all the tugging he felt stopped instantly. Relief would have to wait, however, as he needed to frantically swim up for air. Things might've been horrid up until this point, but... at least things were looking up at least a little now?
Once he broke the surface, there are heavy gasps much needed air, and... he tried to get a grasp of the situation. Akechi's there. Caramia's here, and his shadow stopped. And... aaaaaaAAAAHH???? (Had the the breath and will to scream at the time, he probably would have, but alas, for now, it remained internal.) ]
Ak- Ake- [ Again, Caramia was unable to move, but this time not from some grasp he was unable to break out of. Unless you count the grasp of anxiety as a thing, in which case, strike through the previous statement. ] Akechi--?? [ That was probably meant to have some other words after that like "what's going on?" or "hey do you see that thing, too?" or "haha, hey, am I losing my mind?", but he's honestly just a bit too overwhelmed at the moment to make too many words.
At least he got a name out. ]
no subject
He wasn't, though. Caramia is still alive, because of him. Because he saved him. And none of that sounds right. ]
Caramia-san. [ It takes him another moment, a long minute of quiet staring, and when he finally brings himself to speak, it still lacks his practiced warmth and concern; it's not quite cold, but just a little detached. ] Are you all right?
[ By all means, he shouldn't feel scared to have saved a life. And yet, here he is. ]
no subject
I... [ He didn't want to lie, but he also didn't want to burden Akechi more than he already had. ] I don't know...
[ Which was the honest truth. He didn't feel like he should be 'all right', considering he just almost drowned and the fact that his shadow was quite literally trying to kill him. That felt like the exact opposite of all right. Then there was all this that happened, too, and he was confused and he was still in this freezing water, and... he was terrified.
Not that that's anything new. ]
no subject
If only he knew what else he can do. What else he has done. ]
I'm sure you must have plenty of questions about this. [ He steps closer, slowly, as though showing he means no harm. ] And I will tell you everything you need to know, but for now, I believe it'd best if you move away from the water.
[ You know, before his shadow acts up and they have to through this all over again. ]
no subject
Once he'd gotten a sufficient enough distance from the water, and any other things the shadows would try to toss their way, Caramia practically threw himself at Akechi for a hug. It wasn't like any of his others, either. This one felt... desperate... pathetic... Far less warm than usual. Look, his
gaudynice clothes were already drenched, what's a little more water going to do? ]Y-you saved me. [ Thanks for stating the obvious, Caramia. He sniffed, his eyes tearing up, as if he needed more damn water on his face. ] I-I... I didn't know what to do, I was so scared. That was terrifying. But you... did...
[ Akechi sure did something. What that was, Caramia couldn't really tell, but?? A whole lot of something. He pulled away from Akechi, but only enough to look at him, his hands promptly at Akechi's sides. ]
Are you okay? What even happened? How...? I... [ His eyes searched Akechi's face for some kind of answer, trailing off his questions since there was just... too many to ask. He was already overwhelmed himself, he didn't need to do the same for Akechi. Until... ]
Th-... Thank you...
no subject
Was this even for real? He, an utter disgrace to the world who was only ever good for ruined lives, had just saved one instead? Hmm... ]
A-ah, yes, I'm all right. [ He finally manages to answer once Caramia lets go-- and, really, shouldn't Akechi be the one asking him that question? ] Thanks to my powers, these shadows aren't so much of an issue to me.
[ A pause. Guess the cat is out of the bag, anyway, so might as well offer some proper explanation: ]
That was... what you saw, by the way. My special powers... My Persona.
no subject
...Thank goodness.
All the tension briefly left him, and he unintentionally lulled his head forward to gently bump his forehead against Akechi's, followed quickly by a heavy sigh of what could definitely be picked up on as relief. There was still so much he didn't know, but if he was safe, and Akechi was also safe, then he didn't exactly have the luxury to complain, did he? Once he had composed himself again, he lifted his head up, giving a sniff and lifting a hand to wipe away at the fresh tears on his face. ]
What... what is that, exactly? [ Though, maybe Akechi didn't want to talk about it? He did seem a little stressed about something, and it'd be rude to assume that it was because of the whole drowning thing. ] I-If I may ask...?
no subject
But, explaining what a persona is, that is not a concern of his. Keeping it a secret, sure, but that ship has already sailed, so a little extra explaining will do him no harm. ]
A persona is the human psyche given shape, although some have called it a person's spirit of rebellion. [ He begins, trying to choose his words carefully. He gets distracted for a second seeing Caramia cry - tears of relief, maybe? But still odd, coming from that walking bundle of sunshine - but manages to quickly regain his focus. ] Normally, they wouldn't manifest in the real world like this, but this place seems to have affected them, as well.
[ With his hand to his red mask, Akechi summons his persona again. It looks humanoid enough, and if Caramia takes a good look at it, maybe he won't be as scared? ]
This is Robin Hood. My persona.
[ One of them, at least. ]
no subject
Robin... Hood? [ Pause. ] As in... gives to the poor, steals from the rich... that Robin Hood.
[ He was looking at the manifestation with a very small glimmer of curiosity. ]
How funny, that he saved my life even here...
Henry | (after he gets his color)
It didn't matter what Henry was doing at the time, he'd immediately get a relieved hug out of Caramia. Warm, yet almost like he was trying to scoop him up. Protective might been the best word. There probably should've been questions like how this happened and how he felt and, hell, even if he was back to his usual self, but all Caramia uttered in the moment was: ]
You're back...!!
no subject
This is not the kind of behavior he'd been expecting from anybody, though perhaps his weirdo housemate would be the prime candidate for it, come to think of it. But as it is, he's surprised enough that he only lets out an exaggerated ooooof and just stands there for a few moments, before he slowly, tentatively, as if waiting for it to be a trick--
Actually hugs Caramia back.
He's just as hesitant when he extricates himself, but hey, it's progress.]
Where'd I go?
no subject
Doesn't matter. [ Well, it kind of did, but he'd bring that up later. ] You're here now! All of your color back! [ He gave a quick look around Henry to make sure that were true, then gave a smile. ] You... you feel okay?
no subject
Uh... yeah. Sure do. Weird, huh?
no subject
Did it just... come back? Did you do something? [ He wondered if the same happened for Akechi? ]
no subject
Naw, I just waited for a bit and it just came back all on its own, I guess.
[So it's fine! He's fine.
Except he still doesn't know what exactly happened or why except that he really, really didn't like that deadened feeling--even thinking about it still unnerves him, and he doesn't like that either. He doesn't like feeling off kilter or scared.
And people keep bringing it up which just reminds him all over again and he'd much rather have bad feelings just go away so he doesn't have to think about them. So maybe if he acts like he usually does they'll all stop asking him about it.]
I'm sorry he's like this, Henry
That's good.
[ Well, not really, but, whatever. He got his color back now and that's really all that mattered. He saw the slight disconcerting shift in Henry and... he honestly couldn't tell if it was because he was smothering him, or because he was genuinely upset about what happened. Caramia was going to bet the latter, and completely disregarded the first as an option, and in true lion fashion, he bumped his head gently to the top of Henry's. ]
Hey don't worry... I won't let anything like that happen to you again.
no subject
He just isn't used to this from people.]
You won't?
[He wants to ask how. To be honest, Caramia doesn't come off as someone particularly intimidating. But what comes out instead is:]
Why?
no subject
Wh...? [ Why? What an odd question. Wasn't it obvious? ] Well, you've been nothing but understanding since I've known you. It's hard to tell how you're feeling sometimes, but I still feel comfortable around you. [ Even if he did bring skeletons into the house. ]
Ah, I guess, in less words... you're important to me?
no subject
[If he sounds like he doesn't get it, that's because he kinda doesn't. This isn't something that anyone in his life has ever said to him in words. It's something that he'd thought was maybe inherently different about him, honestly, the way he's never quite fit in with people the way everyone else does.
It's weird. But it's not bad. In fact, it's kind of nice.]
I mean, thanks. I guess you're pretty important, too.
[That's how it works, right?]
no subject
You have to promise you won't go off doing anything reckless now, okay? [ That was Caramia's job, after all. ]
no subject
[His expression is genuinely confused, like he doesn't know what he might have done to give Caramia that impression. He's been cheerful and friendly the whole time they've been living in the same house, hasn't he? That's what people do when they like each other, right?]
Did I do something wrong? 'Cause, sorry. [It's suddenly really important to him that Caramia understands Henry likes him just fine.]
no subject
[ He cleared his throat. ] The thing with the rain that one time, but... [ That's mostly on Caramia for being a baby about water, and he knew that much. ]
All misunderstandings, it's okay. You haven't done anything wrong.
no subject
I was trying to help you be less scared of it. Didn't it work?
no subject
[ He muttered that last part, you know, because he has to hold onto his pride a bit. ]
It wasn't exactly fun, though, no.
no subject
Okay. I won't do that then. What should I do instead? You can't just be scared of water, that's just silly! What if you get thirsty?
[Yeah, apparently he hadn't heard Caramia's addendum.]
no subject
Ah, nothing, nothing, I'm okay. I can drink it just fine and I can bathe myself when I need to, I just don't like it. It... makes my skin crawl...
no subject
He's pretty sure that's how friendship works. Right?]
Hey. [His voice comes out bright, maybe a little too eager. There might even be a note of desperation in it.] Hey, can I try again? Please? I promise I won't do anything weird this time. I want to help.
no subject
Okay, okay. [ He hoped he wouldn't regret that. ] Just be careful, okay?
no subject
Yeah, 'course. A little curse or two never hurt anybody. [Permanently. Usually.] I'll get you all sorted out real quick.
no subject
[ Couldn't he just call it "magic" or something? He was already starting to get nervous about this. ]
no subject
[Tons of useful things! Plegian mages use 'em all the time.]
It's just 'cause it's not elemental magic. It's super safe, promise. [Ish.]
no subject
If you're sure. I'm trusting you.
[ Whether that was a good idea or not was... debatable. But it'd make Henry happy. And he decided that if the worst Henry could do was make him walk out in the rain for hours than there could be worse things to make people happy, really. ]
Kyrie | (After the shadow event)
Hey... Kyrie?
[ Pause. ]
Since we've gotten here, I've had to explain to a few people about what I am, and... Why are we human again...? I can remember getting my courage from the wizard, but not why I'm like this...
May is after the shadow event, right?
Still, his name gets a soft hum in acknowledgement, despite how Kyrie adamantly refuses to turn to face him. He even keeps his eyes closed, as if he could actually manage to fall asleep so quickly. Maybe it will deter Caramia from spending too much time on whatever meaningless topic he's decided to pick up...?
(It's funny because it won't.)
It isn't until Caramia continues that Kyrie blinks his eyes back open, holding his breath for a beat after he's finished. Then, he shifts himself to peer over his shoulder with a small frown.
"Would you rather go back to collecting fleas? I'm sure it can be arranged." Hm. That doesn't quite sound like himself--maybe he's just tired.
May-be ;)
[ This is, of course, assuming that their journey went along as he remembered it, but judging by how things have gone since he got here... that wasn't necessarily the case. That shift in tone from Kyrie definitely raised a few red flags as well. He picked up his arms and coiled them around Kyrie to tug him closer, trapping him in case he decided to abscond under the guise of harmless affection. ]
I... I have all these pieces to a big picture I shouldn't have missed to begin with and I don't understand why.
no subject
Harmless affection his ass, who decided this was okay?? As if it wasn't bad enough to introduce this kind of topic, now Caramia's going to be clingy? Illegal. He's lucky Kyrie doesn't have his gun on him.
If he could hiss, he would; as he is, he can only sigh, snapping a quiet, "Caramia..." but ultimately letting this moron do as he pleases, because... well, because frankly, he's tired!! Not so much physically, but mentally. And, although he won't admit it, it's... sort of nice, to have the reassurance that someone's there. He only struggles enough to demand there be some space between them, jabbing elbows as needed to maintain what little Caramia might allow. He's not going anywhere just don't!! Crowd him. It's different when he does it, because usually he's already asleep.
"Does it matter?" He's not bitter, really. "It's not as if it's bothered you all these years--I can't imagine why bringing it up now would make a difference. I'm sure if it's beyond the capacity of your meagre memory, explaining it would only be a waste of precious breath."
no subject
Which is exactly why they needed to have this conversation... ]
That's just it, Kyrie. I haven't ever talked about it before, so I never noticed that it didn't make sense. Trying to explain things... it just gets hazy. How do I remember so clearly when it comes to the Wizard and my courage, but not something like that?
[ He knew Kyrie wasn't happy to talk about this, but he was so tired of trying to be sensitive about this. ]
I want to know. Please... If anything, so I can just hear you talk to me.
