t's very cold down here in the well. Hopefully you're not expecting to be warmed up any time soon, because the icy nature of the water cuts right to the bone.
And probably soaks the new dresses or fashion you may or may not be wearing, or your new miles of locks of hair. Those are just an added inconvenience when it comes to getting out of the well -- at least there are bells installed to ring for help, and ladders too. Seems like someone was prepared for this!
Which is good, because depending on how badly affected your fellow townsfolk are, they may not exactly be in the best situation to rescue you today. Good luck, everyone!

He shakes his head slightly at the question, amused.]
No, we were all truly just blades before becoming as we are now.
Although, granted, some blades have mysterious stories surrounding them. [He chuckles, but his expression shifts. Tonbokiri looks a touch abashed, but thankful, at that invitation.]
I have been somewhat curious since that time the town put me inside your heart's world...
You gave your title as a 'god of scrap', and implied that you are, or were, a prince...
Would you tell me more about your story, Xie Lian-dono?
I know, I am still not a close acquaintance to you, but if you allow, I would like to know a little more about you.

His smile dampens only slightly at the mention of his past--it was a long time ago, after all, and in the safety of reality there isn't anything around that could bring back that pain.]
My story is...well, you know I was a prince once. A prince of a country, and then its patron god. But that country was on its last legs, and naive as I was, I sacrificed my godhood trying to save it.
...I'd regained my position as a god shortly before I came here, actually--though I suppose "god of scrap" still suits me as a title, all things considered. [Aha...hahaha...]

A prince, or at least, an emperor, becoming deified is not unheard of in Japan either, although it makes him wonder briefly if Xie Lian-dono is much older than he appears.
Given what they'd experienced in his heart's world, Tonbokiri was not expecting a glad story. And this, abbreviated as it was, certainly is sombre. But his eyebrows raise in curiosity at the end.]
Is that so? Did you return to being god of the country you were protecting before?
no subject
[Just gonna gloss over that one.]
I'm not really god of anything in particular, these days...to be honest, before I cam here, I hadn't had a shrine of my own in years. [A short pause.] --I do still get work though! Or I did? Admittedly things have been quiet since I arrived here.

Tonbokiri shakes his head sadly.]
It is tragic to lose one's beloved homeland. [Especially after sacrificing so much for it.] I am sorry.
I believe small gods should also be venerated. I hope that, when the time comes, you shall return to your world with newfound strength and direction. Your story is not over yet.

[Xie Lian shakes his head as well - it's an old story, a thousand ancient scars, the aches only felt if you poke them hard enough.]
I'm sure there are many adventures yet to come, once I return to my homeland. What those adventures may be, and how relevant I may be to them, I can't rightly say...but I appreciate your words, regardless.

Thinking of adventures, could you tell me of how you came to be Ruo Ye's master?
no subject
Well, about that--I started wearing it around 800 years ago, and it stayed with me throughout all my trials and tribulations....so after receiving blood from the—occasional injury, and getting infused with spiritual energy from a, ah...acquaintance...over time it naturally gained a life of its own, you know.

Well, from a blade's perspective. Perhaps he is young for a god.
He suspected that the story would be somewhat unhappy, and it is clear that Xie Lian-dono is cutting considerable detail out. But that is fine. It is enough of the story to understand.
Indeed, to say 'you know' in a story like this, Xie Lian could have no better audience. ]
I believe I do.
That is a unique connection, to have been together that long and though so much together. I'm certain Ruo Ye values you as much as you do him.

The strip of silk wriggles happily at Tonbokiri's mention, raising up to rub one end against Xie Lian's cheek and eliciting a small laugh from the...equally-small man.]
I value Ruo Ye quite a lot, it's true! There's been many times I really couldn't have made it out without that extra help.
[Scritching the cloth as if it's some sort of cat...]
I'm sure your, ah, saniwa values you as well, Tonbokiri. You're a very reliable person!

It is wrong to think that Ruo Ye is like a pet... but even so, Tonbokiri has a moment of thinking, 'I want one.'
Perhaps because it reminds him of Konnosuke riding his shoulder, that round face upon his cheek.
Drawing himself out of nostalgia, he smiles in thanks at the compliment.]
To be of use to Aruji is all this one can wish for. And for so long as I am in this place, I am glad to be of use to you as well, Xie Lian-dono. No matter the situation, you can rely upon me.
