t's very cold down here in the well. Hopefully you're not expecting to be warmed up any time soon, because the icy nature of the water cuts right to the bone.
And probably soaks the new dresses or fashion you may or may not be wearing, or your new miles of locks of hair. Those are just an added inconvenience when it comes to getting out of the well -- at least there are bells installed to ring for help, and ladders too. Seems like someone was prepared for this!
Which is good, because depending on how badly affected your fellow townsfolk are, they may not exactly be in the best situation to rescue you today. Good luck, everyone!

Maribelle is on the scene, with her horse, and with it, her healing staff and a tome.]
Here we are... are you hurt?
no subject
But the words and tone are gentle, so Uki wills herself to calm down, her hands trembling as she clutches the photo tightly. She shakes her head; she has a few scrapes and cuts from her climb out of the well, but she's otherwise unharmed. ]
I-I'm okay. Who... Who are you?
[ It's as good a place to start as any. ]
no subject
My name is Maribelle. I imagine you're quite confused, and have limitless questions. But, before we do anything, we must warm you up so you don't catch a cold.
[She returns to her horse and takes out a few twigs from the saddle. She places them on the ground, and then opens the tome.]
... Elfire!
[The book glows red - and then shoots out a fireball! It hits the sticks, and viola, mini campfire.]
no subject
A pyrokinetic...? But with a book, instead of her mind. Her eyebrows shoot up in surprise, and even a bit of anxiety - but when she realizes the only purpose was to make a campfire, Uki rubs at her eyes and calms her breathing.
She shuffles to the fire, unzipping her frog backpack and putting the photo inside. ]
Thank you, ma'am. Miss... Maribelle. You didn't have to light a fire for me, but it was very nice.
[ Her very obvious shivering is starting to abate with the heat. ]
no subject
[I-I wasn't being nice or anything, b-baka!]
Now, sit closer, we'll get you dried up as best we can. To answer one of your first questions... we all came through the well.
no subject
That sounds like the final word, so Uki fidgets and slides closer to the fire instead of protesting further. She takes her backpack off, putting it beside her. When it sits up, it just looks like a little frog plush toy. If it gets warmed by the fire, maybe it can warm up the contents, too. She almost seems more concerned about the frog backpack than herself. ]
Everyone...? A-Are there a lot of people here?
no subject
Indeed. I can't give you an exact number, but every month for almost two years now, at least ten people emerge from the well.
no subject
[ The fire is starting to help, at least, and she stretches her hands out to warm them. Despite the anxiety in her words, she isn't huddling into herself. ]
no subject
Before I go further, I need you trust me, despite the fact I am a complete stranger. For the things I will tell you may sound insane and impossible... but I promise you, they are the truth.
no subject
She steels herself, brushing away the beginnings of tears welling in the corner of her eyes, and nods. ]
Yes... Please, go on.
no subject
... To start with? You and I come from different realms. Different worlds entirely.
no subject
[ Uki doesn't even sound sad about it - just perplexed. ]
Where are you from?
no subject
no subject
No... I haven't. I'm sorry. I was living in Shibuya... I haven't seen anything like this place there.
no subject
no subject
[ Wait, that's what she just said not to do... ]
...Is it possible to travel between them? Could we... find a way home that way?
no subject
Because not only does this place take people from different realms... it also takes them from different periods of time. People from the same realm have arrived, but at different points of time. One persons' future, and another person's past.
Because those from the future have no recollection of this place, it's easy to determine that we will be sent home, since time was unaffected.
no subject
So... People I know could show up here? Is this place... safe?
no subject
[She sighs, and after a moment, places her things back on the saddle. She moves to sit near Uki, giving her space but also deciding these things should be better explained face to face.]
Would that I could say it was safe... but that would be a lie. Unfortunately, this place will test you emotionally, and physically. There are dangerous creatures that have gone after us without warning, and this place can change its entire setting at the drop of a hat. Life here... will not be easy.
[She inhales, but then, gently, tries to touch Uki's shoulder.]
I do not say these things to frighten you, but to warn you. Even if you do not see anyone from your realm... You are not alone. The people here will help you and protect you as best they can. You can come to us for help, and we will guard you with our lives if need be.
I give you my word.
no subject
Maribelle's words might be scary, but she's promising that she'll be safe - and Uki believes the sincerity in those words wholeheartedly. She's sniffling, and the tears are starting to spill, but instead of fear, it's from the tension leaving her. ]
Thank... Thank you. I don't mean to cry...
[ She moves closer to Maribelle, to thank her for her kindness and move in for a hug, if she'll let her. ]
no subject
[The hug is surprising... but, she decides not to fight it off. Her own hug is a little awkward - she usually reserves such affection for those very close to her - but Uki needs it.]
There there... Let it all out. These are hard times for us all, but we are made of stronger stuff than our captors know.
no subject
...A minute of silent crying later, Uki sniffles, straightens up, and looks at Maribelle with wet, but decidedly more determined eyes. ]
Um... I never mentioned it, but... My name is Uki Yamazoe. I'll... try to be brave.
no subject
[Have a rare, but honest smile.]
