[ Her smile twitches, just slightly. She's still off her game today, so it shows more than usual. Even without the ability to feel true joy, she keeps barreling on past it like she could outrun any lingering feelings, if she only tried hard enough. ]
It wasn't that hard to adapt. You just boom your voice, kachunk some words together, and fire 'em full throttle at the audience. Like a freak show act that's turned the laughter they get right at other people.
[ Maybe that was too grim? With enough time, she'll be able to pick the facade back up. ]
And that's your lesson today. You normally have a commanding lead over anyone listening to you. Just project your voice, and you've got them on the hook.

So it is important to overwhelm the audience with your voice and presence...
[ Um. In short, be more like Nero? She did partake gratuitously in theatre... At the same time, Saber doesn't think there would be room enough on a single stage for both a Magilou and a Nero...
They soon pass into Bluo, and it isn't much further to Saber's house. It's a little place, but patched up enough to be neat and presentable. Saber opens the door gently as if trying not to disturb the peace of the interior.
Just like its two residents, the inside of the house lacks flair or ornamentation, instead exuding an aura of space and order. The only oddities within are its excessively well-equipped kitchen (by Chroma standards) and a small mechanical toy rabbit that sits squarely in the middle of the living room table. Saber gestures for Magilou to take a seat. ]
Please make yourself comfortable while I heat up the food.

Completely different from Magilou's own idea of a house, since she barely has any personal effects to her name, and hasn't spent much time at her new residence in Ruga. This is, somehow, calming her current vague sense of unease. ]
You don't have to tell me twice. Just don't take the offer back once I get settled in!
[ Magilou immediately beelines for the closest comfortable chair to lounge on - by literally splaying her limbs across the chair's arms. It's fine, don't worry about it. Once she's settled, that mechanical rabbit gets the gift of all of her attention. Compared to the relative impersonality of the rest of the house, it's such a unique artifact that she can't help but stare while she waits for Saber to bring the food. She reaches over to it, one hand lazily reaching out to hover around it but not quite touch it. ]

Satisfied with the growing fire in the stove, Saber turns to watch Magilou and the rabbit from the kitchen. ]
A clever toy, is it not? It is charged with spiritual energy, so it gravitates toward anything that possesses it.

All she does is watch it, until she turns her attention to Saber at the sound of her voice. Eventually, the rabbit settles into Magilou's lap, its ears flicked forward to allow her access, and she absentmindedly strokes its head as it sinks forward. ]
So it's recognized my great magical resonance, is that it? Good taste. [ It's a proud statement, much more like herself than she's been all day. ] Witches have a history with cats, but a rabbit is a decent enough stand-in. Where'd you get this little guy?

In truth, it belongs to my housemate Lan Wangji, who in turn received it from a compatriot of his named Wei Wuxian.
2/2
Wuxian created it from scratch. He is a clever and creative man, if [ annoying, super annoying, infuriating ] somewhat difficult to handle.

You're corralling a veritable hoard of misfits, aren't you? [ If anyone could handle the most difficult people, it's Saber, she figures. ] Pretty soon this place is going to have an entire zoo of mechanical animals, from the sounds of your combined company. No more leftovers to eat after all the beasts get a taste.
[ Not that mechanical animals eat, probably, but. Still!! The rabbit is a technological marvel to Magilou, and it seems perfectly at home in Saber's house with her and her housemate, like it makes up for the lack of decor otherwise. It's oddly charming. ]

But unless Wei Wuxian goes on a gifting bender toward Lan Wangji, it won't happen. Saber refuses to go to Wei Wuxian for anything. There's no timeline in which he wouldn't tease her mercilessly for any hint of softness she showed around him.
She snorts a quiet hmph at the thought of it. ]
I would much prefer living animals. A steady horse and a faithful hound, to begin with.
no subject
[ The idea of Saber being drowned in cute mechanical animals does, though... At least on a surface level. ]
A horse, though... How fitting. A broad, white stallion, running with the wind through its hair and a pep in its step. It might be tough to keep both a horse and a witch on your food budget, but you and your housemate seem like you have everything covered.

[ The food is... warm enough probably, so Saber scoops a healthy helping into a bowl and sets it on the living room table with a spoon for Magilou. It's strangely colored, like most things are here, but it's well-composed (minus the garnish because that's well beyond Saber). It's a delicately flavored fish soup with egg, vegetables, and mushrooms to give it substance. ]
But in this scenario, would you be equal to my pet or my lord? With the amount I serve you, one is as likely as the other.
[ Her delivery is as dry as it could be, but she smiles small but warm. ]

A little of both! I could play each part perfectly well, I've worn tons of hats in my life. Can't say I've ever eaten hay, even when I was locked up for unlicensed witchcraft, but I won't be greedy if it's free.
[ She can steal the horse's portion. Don't think she won't, she has no standards!!
With a satisfied smirk on her face, Magilou leans over the table to take her first bite, led with a gracious helping scooped onto her spoon. The moment it hits her tongue, it warms her up from the inside out, the fish and vegetables in a perfectly flavored harmony, both hearty and delicious. The smirk is replaced with a smile - a much more genuine one than she's given all day. ]

[ Magilou's nature is much like true magic: poorly defined, unpredictable, and uncontrollable, but a humbling sight nevertheless. Of course someone vivid with magic would play poorly with the rules thrust upon them.
And! Saber identifies strongly with Magilou's expression upon tasting the soup. Well-cooked food is a blessing. Her smile grows in response to Magilou's. ]
It seems like your usual self is returning. That is a relief.

[ She doesn't miss the confidence in those words, the previously-meek Saber in front of her dissipating in favor of the smile she shows now. Maybe good company can help every so often; even Magilou can admit that to herself, with her personality returning to her. ]
Look at that. I guess there's not much that good food can't help.
