But Wei Ying's wish is to talk about something else, and WangJi trusts him.
He frowns, ever so slightly, surprised at the request, but only tilts his head. ]
They are... dangerous.
[ He's not denying the request. But he does need to try and ask. ]

[ A beat. He takes a deep breath; and then, with difficulty, draws his hands out of Lan Wangji's. They feel terribly cold, all of a sudden, despite the spring sunshine. ]
It might be a curse. It might be something else. All I'm saying is, be careful for now.
no subject
Will be careful. But holding off altogether if others are in danger... would have been difficult.
[ And he is relieved that Wei Ying did not quite ask him that. ]
Better suited to it than some. And... possibly damage is done, better limit it happening to others.
[ He's missing his grief and sadness, not his mind. He can hear what Wei Ying is doing quite well. ]
Thank you for the concern, Wei Ying.

[ His things are scattered across the ground. He crouches down to gather them. ]
You've spent your life cultivating. Your cultivation base is very high. You're one of the strongest cultivators in the world—our world, back home. Here, things are different. You can't always count on your strength and rush in. Haha! You're very straightforward, I like that about you!
[ He says that without thinking, prattling away. ]
But here, it pays to be careful. Not that you can't protect others, but it's worth thinking about different ways to do so!

[ WangJi bends down to start gathering some of the things that have spread further away, collecting them neatly, before he pauses for a moment as his heart still skips a beat at the 'I like that about you' - even with how they were a moment ago and how it ended.
His body keeps going. ]
As luring the dragon underwater.
[ But... while he can appreciate that, he's not sure how to think like that.
Still, he's not arguing. Wei Ying taught him that rules cannot define the right actions a long time ago already. ]

You have very nice hands, Lan Zhan! Such long, slender fingers! When you reach for things, it looks quite elegant!
[ ...because, shamelessly, he's bereft of a filter. ]
But right, yes. Dragons. That's what I mean, exactly. In fact, anything relating to malevolent energy, you're better off just leaving to me!
no subject
So does his heart.
The tension returns, a little, at that conclusion. ]
Not everything left to you. Want to help. Might not be able to think that way always, but. [ He swallows, mouth a little dry as he remembers his words to Elder brother. ]
I would stand by your side and lend you strength. [ Quiet. Earnest. Certain. ]

[ Lan Zhan seems a tiny bit upset about something... what could it be? ]
no subject
I won't do it too much! I know my limits! In fact, I've been thinking about making talismans to absorb and disperse the malevolent energy. Ah! Perhaps you have some purification spells, that might help in the dispersal.
no subject
Yes, let's work together.
no subject
Mn.
Will work on talismans for you to review, too. And songs.
[ First, Wei Ying must know what more he has at his disposal, so he can make decisions accordingly. ]

Lan Zhaaaan! Was that... was that a smile?
no subject
It was, it definitely was! Aiyaah! It's like plum blossoms blooming on a snow-covered branch, inexpressibly lovely and elegant. All those years I teased you, and I never got to see your smile even once, ah! Why would you hide something like that away?
no subject
Do you really like talismans so much? I never knew. You should have said so before!
[ The Lan clan is all about music and spells, he'd always thought. Who knew that they shared an interest? ]

... ridiculous.
[ Not! The! Talismans! At all! ]
no subject
Oh~? Talismans aren't what you were smiling about? Then what was it?
[ He makes a show of thinking. ]
Did you... like me praising you? Pfff! Hahahaha! High-minded, lofty Hanguang-Jun is vain. Who knew? Okay, if you smile like that, I'll praise you all you want!
no subject
He points out, ] you have praised me before, [ because it is true, and that is not the reason for the smile either, though I'll praise you all you want is staggeringly more appealing than it used to be.
But even the denial is nearly soft, roundabout, rather than the firm, straight-up 'no' of their adolescent years. ]
no subject
You've got very nice eyelashes, did you know? They're so long and so thick. I'm quite fond of your eyes, they look like jewels or pieces of glass, lit by the sun.
no subject
... and then said eyes go a little wide, and a little soft, and definitely lit up, if only for a moment before he lids them to extinguish the hope there.
His lips only purse together, though, no hint of a smile. (Because Wei Ying means it but doesn't mean it, and can they go back to talking about working together? That is something that he at least has a moderate reason to accept as being wanted for.) ]

A-aaaa? What's the matter? You're not going shy, are you? Hey, hey, hey, I know you said it's okay, but if I'm teasing you too much, just say so!
no subject
Not too much.
Not what made me smile.
