It feels like when you eat warm food, y'know?
[ He answer seems genuine enough, though he ultimately looks a tad confused. ]
Your whole body sort of just like... glows... or whatever. Why do ya ask?
no subject
[ It sounds neutral, rather than sorrowful. She's not upset about it, just completely confused as to whether she even knew how to laugh--or, indeed, feel happiness--in the first place. ]
How do ordinary humans warm things up in this savage town? I'm feeling a bit peckish, and if that fixes... whatever curse this is, it'd kill two birds.
no subject
Do you not know how to build a fire?
[ His mouth goes agape, brow raised. ]
How'd you survive this long?
no subject
[ She's getting frustratingly philosophical again, with a neutral expression and even tone to boot. Maybe she's not completely hollow. Her heart's not entirely in it, but she adds, with a touch more forced humor: ]
I usually start fires with my magic. It's stopping them that's the issue. With the woods encroaching, I feel like they'd probably be pissed at me if I set them all on fire accidentally... And I can never be sure if this place is kind enough to provide some flint, let alone wood from a tree that doesn't mysteriously grow back the next morning. Is it safe to scrounge materials for a fire here?
no subject
Maybe if we get ya to laugh everything will come back together! So instead of just sulkin' around let's go do somethin', aye?
no subject
Well, I've been called difficult to please before. [ That's definitely a lie. Fickle, yes, but it's not hard to get her to roll with the punches. ] What did you have in mind? There must be a place that has some excitement around here.
no subject
You and I are alike, then. Half the guys I hung out with would joke about never seein' me really smile, but that's only 'cause they were a bunch of halfwits!
[ And he sounds... happy to have said that. ]
I'm sure there's somethin' fun to do in the forest -- and, if not, there's at least monsters out there that'll get your heart racing.
no subject
[ She's completely used to fighting monsters, so she just lets him lead her there. She doesn't really have the forethought today to care if something terrible happens. ]
I haven't gone too deep in this forest before, but the worst thing anything out there can do is maim us. No biggie.
[ She shrugs, like it isn't really that big a deal. If she had her emotions, maybe she could pass it off as a joke, but it probably just falls flat instead. ]
no subject
[ Dropping her hand once they're at the edge of the forest, Choubee advances forward first. They're going on a trip to have fun! And hopefully not die! ]
No biggie! [ He echoes her, smiling with both confidence and joy. ] And if we die I heard we'll just come back, so it'll be all water under the bridge!
no subject
[ Not even the mention of him drinking the blood of demons really gets to her. That's the only food one of her companions had on her palate, after all. Without even an ounce of fear, she walks right behind him into the forest. ]
What kinds of demons have you seen in here? Anything interesting, or just your garden variety magic creatures?
no subject
[ Though there's no sadness in his tone, instead it's something similar to a child-like curiosity. As if he's genuinely trying to find the answer of whether or not these rumors are true. ]
They're tiny, imp lookin' bastards. Gross teeth and holdin' daggers -- [ He drags a branch away from his face, stepping over a large root. ] -- they're stupid, though, real easy to take care of so long as you keep an eye out.
[ He then stops, extending an arm to tell her to stop as well. Just a distance away is a nest of demons who seem to be guarding their area. Talking among themselves in inhumane grunts, eyes darting from left to right before they finally get bored enough to find solace in the bleak sky above their heads. ]
There. That's where ya gonna find your fun today. Hopefully.

[ There are things worse than death is a phrase she's heard quite a lot. This sounds like one of those things - you die, but here, death might not have an end.
She stops when he indicates for her to, a rare example of her following an order. There's a good few more demons than she expected there to be, like they're holding a business meeting in whatever language they understand. All she does in response is touch at her sleeves, pretending to roll them up. ]
All right. Let's get crackin', and see if we can't bust a hole through this whole... weird emotional wall day.
[ And so she spins on her heels, taking out a Guardian doll as she does. She holds it above her hand, and with a flick of her finger, it starts to float and spin slowly in the air. ]
Ready? You might wanna take cover.

They seem to reappear in mass numbers, anyway, what is there to miss?
He follows her recommendation and gives her enough space, flashing a smile and nodding his head in the process. ] Go ahead. If anythin' I'll take care of the small fries that manage to live through whatever you've got planned.

I've got no idea how resistant these trees are to burning. What a shame.
[ She sighs, focusing on casting a water spell instead. With a wave of her hand and a few seconds of anticipation - the monsters still haven't looked over at them, the fools - a wall of water surges up in the middle of the monsters' cookout, catching a fair amount in its wake. It rushes up like a powerful wave; the monsters she's caught cry in surprise. ]
Flank 'em and pick off the ones that're left.
[ He'll need to avoid the water while it's rushing, but thankfully it's magical, so it won't stick around for too long. ]

He cracks his knuckles one-by-one, their location revealed and the demons now agitated of their home and kin being in danger, they come to them with sharp claws and teeth. It's to be expected, since what they're doing is malicious, but he assumes neither of them are looking to experience death just to see if there's any rush or change of their emotions.
Tao collects in the palm of his hand clumsily -- light taking shape into a sphere until he finally leaps from behind bushes and comes to closer to a demon that easily dodges the currents. Extending his arm the moment when it leaps towards him and releasing; tao particles cutting through the air like a bullet, the impact of it sharp and quick, piercing through the demon and causing it to fall into the rush of water. Continuing to carefully ensure he doesn't slip into the current before he's encountering two at the same time. Taking the first into his palm and crushing its head against a tree before the second shows newly found interest in the girl and her doll, much to his disappointment. ]
One's headed your way!

As the flood starts to disappear, fading from the bottom up in a shower of ethereal energy, the demons she's caught twitch in the last vestiges of life. The remaining ones, though - ]
Got it!
[ Had he not yelled to her, she would have missed it completely, stuck on his new movements as she is. Thankfully, she takes her Guardian doll and extends it out in front of her like an extended pole, essentially slapping the demon in the face with so much force it's knocked back. It spins like a whirlwind, right back in his direction, mostly defeated but still groaning. ]
Back to you for the layup!

The creature holds its head in its hands, groaning in discomfort as Choubee raises both hands above his head. Lacing his fingers together with a wide smile as tao travels from his palms and encircles his hands before he throws them down onto the head of the beast -- crushing its skull in instantly, as if his fists were like a large rock crushing a grape. ]
Okaaaay! [ He shakes his hands, dirty with demon blood. ] That's all of 'em, right?
no subject
Looks like it.
[ Her Guardian doll disappears with a flash, dissipating into particles much like her wall of water did. She kicks a leg out and rests against a tree, sighing to herself. ]
That was actually pretty fun. I haven't flexed my muscles much since coming here. Nice idea.
no subject
So you're feelin' better after that?
[ ... Now that he thinks about it... ]
That's a little scary, lady.
no subject
[ She almost seems a little offended. Mock-offended, but still. ]
And come on, I kept my hands clean. It was strictly above-board.
