[ Fight with a close friend. Make someone cry. Give someone a near-death experience.
Whatever kind of sadist is behind the so-called quests, Shiro has long since decided he doesn't like them.
After taking a chance on becoming an actual lion and finding no real payoff in the wind, his faith in "F" has been scrubbed down to the minuses and any enthusiasm to play their games is hard-won. One of the Blue-marked himself, he tries to sidestep any confrontations that might provoke someone into playing by the morbid rules and mostly spends his days on the canal-boat at the docklands when he isn't scavenging for food. Some salted fish from an inland lake where he starts fishing (and can be found in the mornings) begin to stack up in his and Keith's home, strung over the stove for a warm, chewy snack if the urge strikes, and the vegetables they root out mean a stew is usually simmering in wait for hungry men to come looking.
He likes the library, exploring what he can and finding frustration awaits when he can't. The empty houses in the blue, red, and yellow districts have a creepy haunted quality that he braves only when he and Keith need something homely in a hurry, bedsheets or a small cabinet. It feels like grave-robbing the grey homes which doesn't sit well with him, despite knowing they have no other choice.
And if his evenings aren't spent with Keith for whatever reason he can sometimes be found on the roof of the boat, stargazing.
It's always easy to find Shiro; his arm never stops glowing, day or night. ]

[ Ardyn certainly likes the sound of his own voice. That's good, it hopefully means Shiro won't have to do more than minimal steering. As they pick their way along a barely tracked path through looming trees, Shiro makes an understated point of having Ardyn at his side when he broaches the topic both men know has been on the horizon. ]
Not the mess on the forum. [ Here it is, mildly, ] I spoke to Ignis.
no subject
Wait, Ignis is here too? Well, well, well. The boys had managed to keep that one quiet. Ardyn doubts the taller one is around; he would have made some heroic, defiant stance before now.]
Young master Scientia? I am certain he had a lot to say about the current state of affairs.
no subject
Shiro kicks the scrub aside as he trudges deeper into the woods, scattering some leaves. ]
Ardyn, you don't have to lie if you've done horrible things. [ Pausing, he thinks of the arena and his voice softens a little. ] I have, too.
But it's important that you're honest.
no subject
It's not so much as lying, I've been upfront from the start about my own position back home. Most would have said nothing and tried to keep their heads down. [ And no-one else seems to remember anything past a certain point (though Ignis right now is a question mark over that). The whole forever darkness, world ending will remain under the rug for the foreseeable future.]
I won't ask what it is you believe you have done though I do hope in the interest of fairness you ask all those here to be honest. I know for a fact that I have never jaywalked in my life and yet that accusation was one of many thrown out there. [ The Chancellor gives a slow smile, one to show he really doesn't care about the comments Prompto made.]
no subject
You shouldn't dilute the truth, it is what it is. Omitting details is still lying, Ardyn.
no subject
Agreed, whatever else there may be I will tell in my own time. I would be a liar, however, if I didn't admit I'm curious as to what they think I'll be doing here. There are no armies, no Niflheim or Lucis. They do seem to be expecting something and for once it's something I cannot assist them with. Unlike the time I saved them from a large being called the Archaean, I'm sure they haven't mentioned that.
[ Now it's time for a small shrug.]
no subject
[ He stops, hand on a hip, and nods to the smallish lake not too far ahead through the foliage. ]
no subject
[ Ah, right, the lake. Sometimes it's strange seeing things without colour, something taken for granted back home without a second thought. Ardyn isn't going to wait around for an answer, already making a move to wander over to the water.]
no subject
What is it, then? What did they do to you, Ardyn, that has you riding such a high horse?
[ Shiro follows in Ardyn's wake, coming to stand next to him. Instead of immediately setting up the fishing line he waits for an answer, sidelong gaze intent. ]
no subject
[ Ardyn knows that will get some eyebrows raised, but then he's always been one for skirting being caught. Things are always more interesting that way.] What kind of fish are in there?
no subject
I don't know what they'd be called, I'd never seen them before I came to this planet. They taste like salmon, though.
no subject
[ He'll make no secret of the fact this place is an annoyance, something new and unusual on the horizon that threatens carefully laid plans. That and it still alludes to something more powerful than him.
Still, if Shiro wants something to talk about that isn't fish, Ardyn's going to give him that topic as he seemingly pulls a basic fishing rod out of thin air.]
Oh I do hope I catch something, it's been a long time since I got to try fishing.
no subject
He blinks as the other man yanks a rod out of seemingly thin air, hand on a hip. Definitely not as surprised as he might have been if Ignis wasn't usually opening up his own hammerspace to pull out baked goods. ]
Does everyone in your world have an armiger?
no subject
No, an armiger is a Lucian thing only, a place where they tend to store their weapons. How great that would be if it was for everyone on Eos? [ Not even a hint of concern, if Shiro tells the boys there would be so much doubting and that in itself just tickles Ardyn. Had the boys been paying attention back home they would have heard Ardyn warping in to speak with them ala Kings of Lucis on a few occasions. People just don't tend to see things they aren't looking for.]
You do seem very interested in my world yet you don't seem to be offering anything about your own since we last talked.
no subject
[ This sassy buff buttercup. ]
no subject
[Such sass, Shiro.]
Alright; tell me about where you are from.
no subject
[ Tell him where that fishing rod came from first, punk. ]
no subject
[ Looks like Shiro just isn't going to let go in the armiger thing. Good! It's the most interesting conversation he's had in a while since his roomie vanished.]
There are many different ways. [ Ardyn glances over at Shiro, wholly amused. A wizard. Really now.] You may or may not have noticed that I have very long sleeves and a fishing rod that may or may not be collapsible. Or do I need to do some card tricks to prove sleight of hand?
no subject
[ Fine, don't tell him. He'll ask his buddy Ignis. ]
So if you're not Lucian, where are you from? [ And then, trying to be diplomatic, ] I'll tell you if you tell me.
no subject
[Feel free to ask Ignis. He'll be able to confirm that only the King's chosen can use an armiger and Ardyn is so very far removed from that.]
Niflheim. It's no big secret; afterall I am the Chancellor there. Or was. Semantics. I suppose the boys have told you about Insomnia and I can tell you it's quite different. Niflheim leans on technology whereas Lucis relies on the power of Kings.
no subject
I'm from Earth, Captain of the IGF-Atlas. I'm part of the Galaxy Garrison that explores the rest of the universe beyond our planet. What do you mean by the "power of kings", exactly?
no subject
[Yeah, Ardyn is just going to cast his line and look thoughtful for a moment.] . I don't know all the details, only what I've read and seen in my few visits to Insomnia. There's a crystal that lends them power which is in turn used to protect the lands.
no subject
It's a spaceship the size of a city. [ Not mentioning it also kinda runs on a crystal.] Atlas is a mix of human and altean technology, she's semi-sentient and responds to me.
no subject
That's pretty big!]
That's rather large for a ship, but then I am probably doing it a disservice in comparing her to our own. Are they all that large or is yours a special case?
no subject
She's the largest ever built and the first fully-functional spaceship. [ Looking up, he shields his eyes from the sun and squints to try and pick out some early stars with less luck than he hoped. ] Atlas is special, in her own way.
[ He'll always love Voltron a little bit more, especially the Black Lion. ]
