Event Three.

I come at night, and in the day. I'm always there, do what you may. You may think that I hate the light, Because it is what gives you your sight. But truthfully in light I trust, Because for me it is a must. Left or right, or down below I'll follow you, fast or slow. You really can't escape from me, So tell me now, what I may be.

t's always with you. Your friendly shadow, always following you, step by step. There's nothing wrong with that, right? That could never, ever go wrong... The Town's starting to look better, the situation is starting to improve bit by bit -- there's a bit more color to be found. But it seems as though the characters' adventurousness has stirred up something that may have been better left alone, and that's caused a change in something very close to home. Because amidst all of this optimistic color restoration, something's lurking, right behind everyone's every single step -- and as the day dawns and everyone begins to bustle about, some mischief is finally, properly afoot. [His mind is changed please help him, John. John come back.]

Sylladex. [He's just repeating it because yeah, it's...stupid. Sorry Keith. Still he slows down and he's maybe laughing a little as he takes everything from him. There's a vague moment of concentration before everything seems to just vanish into thin air and John begins walking along again.] Should be safe and it leaves us hands-free to wrestle with shadows and attach them to stuff. Plus, like, it's less stuff for them to make shadows out of.

We should find a spot in the woods that has some light still.

[lonered]

Magic pockets.

[Keith repeats even as John takes his things and makes them vanish and honestly what sort of world is this guy from. Not the first time he's thought that. Probably won't be the last.] Thanks.

[So right. Yeah.] And let's make sure we don't wind up caught out there after the sun sets.

[windeity]

[Welcome to Homestuck, Keith, where even John can't explain what the hell's going on half the time. There's a grin at the thanks and he marches on.]

I'll keep track of time as best as we can. If we find a patch with enough light it'll give us an indicator of when the sun's dipping, too. Time's not my aspect but I can tell that much. Kind of makes you wonder what else is out here at night though. [He seems to have an idea where he's going, given he's brushing past trees and floating along.]

All right. We'll both keep an eye to the sky.

[Keith thinks that's a risk they can take. Because yeah, they need to try something. They can just hope this gets better.]

...not sure we want to find out what's out here at night.

[Like at all.]

Sometimes there are things that we have to do that we may not want to do. I'm not saying we have to stay out here and find out, but in the future we should look into learning even more about this forest. When Izuku organized that expedition for us, a lot of us found really different things that should not add up.

[He comes to a small clearing surrounded by trees, a bit of sunlight dipping through the branches and his shadow cast along the ground.] That is the only reason why I think we should think about it.

[lonered]

I'm all for exploring the woods. But not when we've got our own personal assassins already attached to us that just get stronger in the dark.

[...this is Keith actually thinking ahead someone give him a gold star or something.]

Another expedition is probably a good idea in general. But it should be organized, and we should make sure people know who is going and when. In case anyone doesn't come back.

[windeity]

No, you're right. [Well that was easy.] I don't know how far we went the first time but I feel like we barely touched the surface. If we could ditch the shadows there, it'd be great, but drawing strength from the dark is a problem even if we could attach them to something.

[Still. They're here and he gestures to his shadow which gestures back.] I'm going to turn into the wind. Think you can keep an eye on it and see if it disappear or if it sticks around?

[lonered]

I want you to understand how strange it is that "I'm going to turn into the wind" sounds normal to me now.

[Stated for the record. But he nods in agreement anyway. He's watching. He'll make sure he's got an eye on John's shadow, stepping back enough that his own shadow won't get in the way.]

All right. Go for it.

[windeity]

[There's a grin before he disappears into the wind, a little breeze following. John's shadow lingers even after he's gone but it, too, disappears into the "wind" before John reappears a few feet away from where he started.]

How was that?

[lonered]

[Keith watches closely, making sure he doesn't even blink to miss anything.]

...it disappeared too. But not right away.

[windeity]

[That's not good. ] Which means it is possible they really are gaining their own free will. That's not a great answer. On the other hand it means we stand a chance of capturing them.
