[Despite the positive face she puts on, Xie Lian can't help giving her hands a squeeze back.]

You told me never to put myself down, didn't you? I'd like you to hold yourself to that as well.

[He says it in a lighthearted tone of voice, but the smile is certainly a sincere one. Don't say you don't deserve it, Pyra!]

And I'll do my best not to run if another wedding comes up.

[ Pyra's words, though kind, sound impossibly sad. it's enough to make his heart shatter into a thousand pieces. Well, it's nothing more than what he deserves...

He glances over. He's glad Xie Lian caught up with him; he's glad the man is here. For all the profusion of words that spills from his own lips, somehow he can't make any of them sound heartfelt or kind. He realizes, suddenly, that he can't make any of this better. By staying here and continuing to run his useless mouth, he can only make them worse. ]

[ He cups his hands in a salute and bows low. ]

[ And then he can feel his expression starting to crumble, so he forces a bright smile and reaches for the back of Xie Lian's collar. ]

Come on, didi. We've got a carpentry project of our own to work on.

[ Xie Lian's smile is comforting as always to see, and she is reminded a little more of why she had told him to not berate himself.... Ah, had she sounded despondent just then, when she said that knowing them is more than she deserves? But it's quite the unpleasant truth. Nevertheless, what he says does provide her some insight into the way she's been behaving.

Wei Wuxian's reaction, on the other hand-- a low, formal bow, followed by a plastic smile seems very unlike him and distant, like he's constructed some sort of wall between them. It almost undermines the conversation, of them saying that she's appreciated and a friend... And she's left to wonder just what is wrong again. Xie Lian seems genuine to her, but why does Wei Wuxian still hide...whatever is wrong?

But maybe that's for another day. ]

Have a good afternoon. [ She waves pleasantly at them. ] I hope to speak with the both of you again sometime. [ HOW CAN SHE REINFORCE THAT SHE WANTS TO STILL BE FRIENDS WITH THEM?? Can she be any more obvious?! ]
