Open Mingle for Post Dragon Invasion Clean Up

WHEN: After the dragons leave
WHAT: Repairing buildings, dealing with dragon corpses, freaking out about the encroaching forest, dealing with injuries, etc.
WARNINGS: Dead dragons, maybe.

The dragons sure did a number on the town, didn't they?

Buildings have been burned down (or crushed), the forest has apparently decided to play at territory invasion (again) and there are dragon cadavers around the town.

And, unfortunately, these things don't magically take care of themselves.

Thankfully, as long as everyone pitches in, clean up shouldn't be too hard!

Maybe. Assuming at least a few people know what they're doing. Except, you know, apparently the trees on the edge of town grow back the next day if destroyed.

[The voice that comes from behind her is gravely, hoarse and tired. Duo limps up slowly, bandaged in a few places and a makeshift sling holding his arm against his stomach.

If he had any intentions of rebuilding before, those were pretty well dashed now.]

I'm... I'm so sorry...

[ She looks back at Duo and rushes to his side. ]

Hey, don't apologize ... None of this is your fault.

[ Here, she's gonna shoot off a quick heal spell. ]

I'm just glad you're alive. A little worse for wear, but ... That can be fixed.

[Aw man. She's probably been doing that all day since the attacks started! He can't get out a protest fast enough, though, so he just lets it happen with a sigh.

Does feel better, though.]

The last thing I wanted was you sleeping on the street like I used to...

[ You have no choice in this, bro. She's older than you, she has to take care of you. Little brat brother. ]

It's fine. It's not like I haven't been camping before ...

[ She shifts a little. ]

... But if it makes you feel better, Kaoru offered to let me stay with her and Rin while things get rebuilt.

[ Mind, she still hasn't accepted ... Mostly because she hasn't talked to Rin about it. But also because she wants to make sure Duo is going to be okay. ]

I want to make sure you're going to be okay, though. I don't want you sleeping on the streets any more than you want me doing that.

[Camping and living on the street are totally different things.

Kaoru was the one who offered, and I haven't talked about it with Rin. I haven't accepted the offer yet.

[For a very, very short second, something flickers across Duo's eyes. It's too fast to catch, but it certainly doesn't match the dopey grin that follows.]

You really do not want me to follow up with how much of a failure my first relationship was. I'm trying to give you a morale boost, not drag you down!

I mean. Uh. Hilde and I are still friends. We just weren't compatible. But you and Rin, that's a sure thing.

How do you know? We could realize we're better as friends sometime down the line, too.

[Hilde is way too forgiving. At least that's how Duo sees it.]

The way you talk about him, I doubt it. But hey, you're welcome to an "I told you so" if it happens.

[ She smiles and blushes a little. ]

He reminds me a lot of a friend of mine back home. He might not be the smartest person in the world, but he's got an amazing heart.

I like to think everyone's got different levels of smart. He's obviously got something good going for him if he stole your heart.

I'd normally give that cliche 'if he hurts you' speech but really, I don't think he's the sorta guy who would.
