Food Party

Be it one heard of the feast from the forum, by word of mouth, or just got drawn to the commotion, finding the feast wasn't hard to do. A little house in Ruga had all of the furniture moved outside, sans some tables and chairs-- some probably even from other empty houses to make a little dining area. "Little" being the keyword, but it wasn't like they had restaurant venues to work with. At least there was someplace to sit, right? Assuming it didn't get too popular, of course, there was always the chance of sitting outside. It was a nice day today, after all!

I. Mingle

Looks like it'll be a while before anyone's getting any food, but hey! There sure are people around here to hang out with! Besides, they did mention the chefs could use some company too, right? Or one can decide to be that weird kid at a party that holds their cup of punch in the corner and sips occasionally. Only they didn't have punch-- just water. Sorry, weird kid.

II. Cooking

Welcome to the kitchen! It had a completely different atmosphere here-- tables filled with food that was meant to be chopped or cooked or both. And, of course, the two (for now) diligent cooks working with old stoves. They're open to helping hands, or maybe just a little conversation? How about a bit of influence on what to cook, or maybe being a taste tester? Maybe one might even bring them something else to cook?

III. Feast

While some may argue that this didn't even come close to a feast, it was clear that the most was definitely made from what they had. Could anyone really complain in their situation? Deer meat, apples, potatoes, peppers, water... This may well have been a luxury at this point. Besides, show a little respect for the chefs! They worked hard on this.

I. Talking to a Lion is surprisingly easy.

[ Once the suitable house was found to host their little food fiesta, or whatever this was, it was first priority to get somewhere for people to sit down. Or, that's what he decided he was going to do, anyway. Admittedly, he was hoping that would be a subtle hint for Rin to work on firing (literally) up the stove. Besides, it was important to have a place to sit. Who wants to stand around holding a bowl or plate and pick at their food? Weirdos, that who.

Caramia trekked around, making sure nothing- floorboards or seats- was going to fall apart on everyone. Flopping his full weight down on each table and chair. Any furniture that fell to pieces under him was promptly chucked out with the rest of the discarded furniture outside. Good riddance. Caramia may have had a sore ass after this but it'd probably be worth it.

...Admittedly, there was probably a better way of doing things. Whatever. He should probably grab some well water for drinks, too, while he's at it. Ho hum, so much to do. ]

II. Where's the roast beef??

[ For a while, he seemed to be bustling around without much attention to anything else, besides where people were here in the kitchen of course. He seemed... surprisingly in his element here, however. He truly did enjoy cooking, though, so had it been pointed out, he'd simply say he wasn't surprised. Cooking was relaxing and calm. The only thing better would've been to curl up on a warm day with a good book.

Still, it's his focus that made it all the more surprising when he whipped around with a spoon in hand to the nearest person by him, filled with a warm helping of potato-and-deer soup (odd mix, but at least it didn't look unappetizing?). ]

Here, say "aah"!

III. MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS! MCDONALDS!

[ If only there were actually just a weird fast food joint in the middle of all this. Maybe if they go through the forest long enough, there'll be a nice Wendy's just waiting for them? One can only hope.

For now though, Caramia's coming out with armfuls of food to set down on the tables for people to help themselves with. His own foods of choice were baked potato thins, deer steak, potato soup, and... probably a few others (he did his best with a stuffed pepper with what food they had). He did his best to make an apple puree at some point, but it ended up horribly. Let's not speak about the awful ways he murdered an apple. ]

Buon Appetito! If you want seconds, just let me know. Oh, and sorry for any lack of seasonings. I never missed using salt so much before than... well, right now.

II : Because being in charge of a kitchen means not a whole lot of mingling

[Of course Rin knew that once they were more or less set up, he was going be in charge of getting the actual cooking started. He didn't have to be told twice. Or once, even. He was already in there, getting the stove to light with his surprisingly helpful blue flames.

Naturally he's going to be more focused on the food than the people, but he won't be rude or unresponsive if someone does come in to chat. Also, he's the one to go to if you're looking to add your hands to aiding in this sustenance filled endeavor.]

III. Congrats, you just fed an actual village

[Rin was no stranger to cooking for groups. He often had the cram school students over at the dorm for meals, but cooking for about six was far, far less straining than cooking for a literal village. Even with the unnerving disappearances as of recent there were still a lot of mouths to feed. Even with their limited resources, it was still a good amount of prep work.

At the end of it all Rin wasn't out in the group getting presented with the fruits of their labor, instead relaxing with splayed legs and dragging arms on one of the chairs in the kitchen. Brow a bit sweaty, tail flopped lazily next to him on the floor, he was just going to stare tiredly at the ceiling until someone had the sense to come drag his sorry ass to actually partake of what he worked so hard to make.]

[It probably didn't help that among the villagers here there are plenty of teenagers who always have an impressive appetite...and teens like Kaoru who could easily consume her own weight in food because of her powers.

Kaoru's going to put off eating though, as soon as she realizes he wasn't there.

Don't mind her, Rin, she's just going to float herself off the ground enough that she could lean over him from behind, her face blocking out his view of the ceiling.]

If you're trying to prove you're not broody you're not doing a very good job.

[ Ryoji is one of those weirdos who'd taken his plate and refused to sit down. Standing, and subsequently, walking, is how he can flit from group to group and person to person, eventually making his way back to the kitchen area where Caramia is, wanting to say something about how delicious the food is, maybe, but the moment he opens his mouth, there's a spoon in his face and he automatically goes ]

Aah~

[ Maybe Rin should be a little rude when people come in to chat, shooing people out of the kitchen if they don't belong, because otherwise people like Ryoji will be there crouched by the stove with his elbows on his knees staring into the fire and being something of a nuisance or a distraction. ]

Blue is such a pretty color... It's also a lot hotter than red flames, isn't it?

[Minamoto always shooed them out of the kitchen when he was cooking. And they definitely weren't allowed to taste anything until Minamoto deemed the food perfectly cooked so this was going to be a fun and exciting experience!

And, really, watching Caramia work in the kitchen both eased her homesickness a little while also making it worse. Because if she closed her eyes and just listened to the sounds she could almost imagine herself back in their apartment...but she also thought, he and Minamoto would have gotten along well.

But she's pushing those nostalgic feelings aside and obediently opening her mouth with an exaggerated and chipper,] Aaah.

[...really it could use some salt, but it's not like they had any of that here. And it was better than anything Kaoru could attempt on her own and leagues better than the stuff that tasted like ash! So she gives him a thumbs up.]

Whoever marries you is going to be one lucky lady!

[Honestly, though... for what they have to work with, this is impressive? Minato looks pretty dazzled by it, anyway.]

Oh... all of this looks delicious, Caramia-san. Did you make all of this?

[So. A bit of odd trivia about Rin Okumura.

He sleeps with his eyes open.

It's not a constant thing, it just happens from time to time, and yes it is as creepy as you might be thinking.

So Mr. Slouched In Chair wasn't brooding or anything like that. He was sleeping. Poor guy just wanted a short well deserved nap before he joined everyone.

It takes a moment before he stirs from her voice, even letting out a soft snore at first before suddenly jerking out of his slumber, narrowly missing smacking his forehead right in to Kaoru's.]

Geez--!

[A sleepy yawn, back of his hand rubbing across his eyes. What she said had been completely missed.]

Mnn, did I miss somethin'?

[Look as long as he doesn't step on you and you don't mess up his recipes, he's fine with it. He has to share a kitchen with a stove demon back home anyway.

Staring at the fire is a bit... odd, yes, but he figures not many people have seen flames like his before.

Mixing bowl tucked against his chest and wooden spoon making careful folds of the mixture inside, he looks down with a raised eyebrow.]

Kinda, yeah. Depends on what I'm usin' them for, actually.

[ He won't move an inch! Although the end of his scarf might swing dangerously close to the flames from time to time, always miraculously not getting caught on fire. The fact that the fire can change color(? he's assuming, with the way Rin phrases it, rather than the temperature) is intriguing, something Ryoji doesn't hide on his expression or his voice. ]

What is it like when warming hands? And lighting candles? And burning chairs?

[She didn't clue in immediately that he was asleep but it was strange that he didn't say anything--was that a snore?

She jerks back when he wakes up and who even sleeps with their eyes open???

She doesn't really move away though, instead her expression of surprise morphs into a grin.]

...were you really sleeping with your eyes open?

I. Mingling isn't her strong suit unless she's here to steal your wallet

[But today isn't a wallet-stealing kind of day. Instead, Shiho's sipping her water and not even making a face and wondering out loud why it's not juice or soda or something.

Instead she's putting her water down and then sighing, sprawling over the empty table.]

Isn't dinner ready yet? [You could help instead of complaining, Shiho...]

III. It's normal to be able to eat your weight in food, right?

[It was a feast to anyone that had been made to eat ash for so long. Ash that had no feelings in them, no hard work, no nothing besides being in a can.

Shiho eats a lot on a regular basis anyway, needing more of it to keep up her energy and to fuel the fact that both she and her powers were still growing. That's why there's at least two people's worth of food in front of her, a pile of meat and apples, potatoes and peppers, even if the meat seems to take up most of her two plates.

Is she really eating all this by herself? Evidently as she picks up a bit of food and places it delicately in her mouth, chewing and sighing in happiness. She's missed this. Not just the taste of food but the feeling thanks to her psychometry that someone had toiled and suffered over making this food.

....And as you approach she gives you a worried look that's part are-you-here-to-steal-something and part yes-I'm-eating-all-this.]

[Nope, no color change. Even when something is caught by his flames they remain blue. It's a demon thing - different colors signifying what sort of things the flames are capable of.

Unfortunately that's not information Rin has been entirely privy so he wouldn't be able to explain the finer details of it.]

Heh, I actually had to train with candles... took me ages to get it without burnin' the whole things down to nothin'.

Uh.

[He wasn't expecting that grin. Yukio was usually freaked out by finding Rin in that state.]

Y... yeah...

You think so? [ Caramia certainly didn't think so, but he's glad his efforts were appreciated, anyway! ]

Oh, not all of it. I had a few extra hands in the kitchen. I'm hoping it least tastes as good as it looks.

I'm sure it will.

[So sugoi, honestly.

He's so eager to try all of this food.]

I'm excited for all of it... Thanks for the food.

[It's honestly not even that weird. Then again, compared to the time Kyosuke woke up and went from being physically seven old to looking like he was thirteen almost anything seemed normal.]

Hey, don't be embarrassed! If I leave my room at night I almost always end up in someone else's room. And one of my best friends sleeps with a tranquilizer gun under her pillow. She says she can't sleep without it.

She even shot Minamoto once when he came to wake her up!

[ It's a good thing, too, since he seemed a little too eager for someone to try out his cooking. He gladly rests the spoon in Ryoji's mouth, hoping he had cooled it enough for him. People have different tolerances to temperature, after all, but he was pretty sure it was fine. ]

How is it? It's not too bland, right? Maybe I should add peppers...

[ While he knows it wasn't his best work, he hoped for a little breathing room. It wasn't like he was trying to compete for best chef or anything like that. Besides, it was a luxury eating food with actual taste after having gone so long without it. ]

Aha. You think so? Grazie, signorina.

[ He may have been a tad bashful about that. While he knew he'd be too busy for a lady in the life he lived, he'd be a liar if he said that he hadn't entertained the thought. He was a pretty hopeless romantic at heart. And she worded it so nicely, too! He really appreciated that, though he's not quite sure why. ]

The meat isn't too tough, right? Do you think I need to add anything? [ Besides, you know, spices. ]

It's the least I could do, really. I cooked for the famiglia back home, actually. Kyrie complained, but he always cleans his plate, so I'm certain he quite enjoys it.

[ Speaking of Kyrie, he briefly wondered if he was going to show up? ]

You're welcome to have as much as you like. We can always make more. Ah, you don't have any allergies or anything, right?

Training with candles... Is it something you can do, just by...?

[ vague hand gestures. Magic, or something other than a lighter or match stick. With only this much context to go on, and the fact that the fire is an unnaturally pretty blue, it's his best guess. ]

It's much harder to temper a power, than to give it your all, isn't it?

[ There's a brief struggle to finish swallowing before he opens his mouth to speak, but Ryoji is very quick to assure Caramia. ]

It's delicious! That you were able to make something like this with what we have is amazing. I haven't eaten anything in weeks, and now I'm so glad I'm able to.

[ Eating is great... He really misses it. ]

[ Ryoji doesn't carry a wallet and the only thing important to his is securely wrapped around his neck in the form of a scarf, so he feels safe enough to plop down right next to Shiho. He's that person who, given the entire stretch of empty spots to sit, chooses to do so right next to somebody, not even giving them the courtesy of sitting across from them. ]

Not yet! It's so hard to wait, isn't it? I can smell everything cooking from all the way out here, too.

I know so! Young, good-looking, does housework and a good cook? Most women dream of marrying someone like that. [He's almost like Minamoto in that regard, except she doesn't know if he has the body of a swimsuit model or an equivalent to a cushy government job.]

It's more tough than I'm used to but it's not bad. Just different. [Game meat wasn't something they eat much of.] I don't think you should ask my advice for food. The only thing I know how to make are omlettes. [And she hasn't even mastered that yet...]

No, none.

I'm happy to eat anything.

[100% anything, he's easy.]

And I'm sure Kyrie-san will show up. It sounds like he must really enjoy your cooking if it was like that. He's just not good at saying what he feels, is he?
