[ It's good thing they have no idea how literally any machinery works, since they can't tell either way if he's guessing his way through things or if he actually knows what's going on. Either way, it seems like he's doing enough for it to take off, with how the ceiling is moving and how there's sounds of hissing steam all around them. If he weren't so nonchalant about all this, it'd be a little frightening.

Their free hand clutches at the edge of the control board, their knees feeling wobbly with the way the aircraft is slowly rising into the air against the laws of gravity - maybe it's because they're concerned for him, and maybe it's because they're sort of wary about doing something so fantastical, but their arm tightens around him a little more. ]
