Revenge, put plainly. The king's wife sought to avenge the sacrifice of their daughter, you see. They were at war, and at one point, a goddess stopped the king's troops from advancing onto the enemy nation's stronghold unless she was offered a human sacrifice. The queen sought retribution for the sacrifice of their daughter, the power of the crown, and a place for her long-time lover at her side.

[ An affair. Scandalous. Then again, this wasn't exactly uncommon amongst royalty either. ]

Power, vengeance, and love. Is it not a tale so human already?
