Event Ten.

Little Willie, mean as hell,
Pushed his sister in a well.
Mother said, while drawing water,
"My, it's hard to raise a daughter."

t's pretty dark and miserable down in the well. The cavernous area feels much larger than a well should be, bodies milling about in the darkness and knee deep, frigid water. So you're here -- and you're not alone, and the only way out appears to be the thin circle of sunlight from above, the opening of the well.

(And elsewhere, in the Town, everyone's waking up to gifts of various usefulness, but hopefully they remember to check the well today even so!)

What now?

Welcome to Awash's tenth event log, and the intro log for this month, everyone! All new characters have found themselves waking in the well in the middle of the Town. Hopefully they can get a hand out! For more information, please go here!

[ sierra senses the hunger in that sword, in this man, but she doesn’t seem to be cowed at all by his strength. half the battle is having the mental edge over your opponent.

[Her attitude would fit a vampire, but he's met plenty of people that seem to be one thing and are another. So which is it? He doesn't want to out and ask...]

I lead the defense force here. [But he will out and say that.] You're going to startle people, staying out here looking like that. I wouldn't recommend it unless you want to get a knife to the face or some ass trying to pick you up.

[ sierra is most definitely a vampire, but it’s not immediately necessary to tell him that. ]

Haven’t these people ever seen a bat before? It’s not like I’m some monster.

[#doubt... But, he just raises his eyebrows a little, like he's expecting a real answer to that.]

Most people can't turn into bats. And for the record, animals don't usually wander into the town unless there's trouble, or someone brought them from home.

[ sierra is oddly firm about that. a vampire she may be, but not a monster—she left her life of cruelty behind a long time ago, and she doesn’t want to think that she’s lost herself the way that so many of her former friends have. ]

Can’t I change my form without needing to be branded for it?

No. [He's pretty sure labels exist specifically for people who literally change into something not a person??]

So what are you, exactly? [So much for subtlety.]

[ but there’s something dangerous about her smile. although her fangs aren’t visible when her mouth is closed like this, with every passing moment it probably becomes clearer just by her manner exactly what she is. ]

...I just want to know if you're human or not. It shouldn't be a problem to share something like that.

[It!! Shouldn't be!!]

I’m not. [ there. happy? ] The term humans like to use for me is “vampire,” if you’ve heard of such a thing.

[ she was the first! vampires didn’t exist before she did, so she could have named them whatever she liked, but she took on the appellation humans gave. ]

I have.

[He knew it!! But hhhh, okay, thankfully he has met one other vampire today who is on a sardine diet, so.]

The vampires that come here from different worlds can differ. The ones where I'm from require human blood every three days or they go on a rampage. What about you?

[ poor creatures. sierra frowns at guren’s explanation of the vampires from his world—if she were there, maybe she could change something about it.

does it mean that there are other vampires in this town, though? ]

Hmm… I’m afraid you asked the exception to the rule.

[ she’s willing to cooperate, though—maybe because she herself knows how dangerous a hungry vampire can be. ]

I only need blood to use my magic. I conquered my hunger a long time ago.

[...Huh. Convenient. He relaxes his shoulders a bit.]

Then we shouldn't have a problem, unless you're going to be using too much of your magic. [Whatever that is...] Does it have to be human blood?

Are you offering?

[ guren is young and handsome, and he looks like he could take it if she wanted to drain him—but maybe he has some arrangement with another vampire, and sierra isn’t in the habit of killing people for their blood. ]

Only if you need it.

[HE IS OFFERING... There was a point when he was feeding three vampires at once, staggering the days and keeping them in vials as best as he could... So, he thinks it's fine.]

I just don't want to deal with you catching anyone off guard.

I’ll do what I want, but thank you for the offer.

[ at least she’s honest. she’ll drink from whoever agrees to it—she has a little too much honor to ambush people in the middle of the night. ]

…I don’t bite unwilling participants, if that’s what you’re worried about.

[So, he'll take her word for it, for now... There's little else he can do, anyway. He doesn't have the benefit of knowing her like he does with Crowley.]

We're all working together here.

[ suddenly, she’s quite serious—the monstrous reputation of vampires isn’t something she takes lightly, when she’s responsible for it. she was the original one. she’d lost herself for years, and when she thought she’d found peace… she let her village burn and her people die because she’d grown complaisant.

it’s not a mistake she’s going to make again. ]

I’m not against you. I don’t kill humans. I don’t allow others like me to kill humans. Life is precious, and although my time amongst the living is over, I would never deny another their chance.

...That's funny, coming from a vampire.

[RUDE... but he's only cold like that for a second before relenting.] But I'm glad, if that's the case. Vampires treat us like cattle where I'm from. Maybe you'll meet one of them here.

[ she doesn’t blame him for his suspicion or his coldness, even if it annoys her. there are some things that can’t be helped, about her nature. ]

…there are others like that in my world as well. [ a pause. ] I can take the need to feed away, but I can’t change their desire. Those who want to cause chaos will. It’s simply my duty to stop them, however I must.

Sounds like a rough duty.

[It's like trying to stop all humans from being greedy. He imagines it's just as impossible.]

I’m making progress. You can think of me as a vampire hunter. I’d say it’s more accurate in some ways.

[ as if she’d never been troubled at all, she smiles. so she had to kill two of her once-closest companions recently… it happens. ]

Hah. Then maybe we're on the same page, after all.

[Hunting vampires... But, well, he's teamed up with vampires, too, and fighting vampires isn't really the goal anymore. But that's fine, this is enough.]

Hoho! As long as you don’t get in my way, then we won’t have any problems.

[ and really, she can respect a man with the strength to get in her way, so either way, guren will probably get off easy. she’s a true rune bearer, so she isn’t afraid of anything he can do to her, but it’s for the best for everyone if two incredibly powerful people don’t fight. ]

Yeah, yeah. I'll gladly move out of the way if you want to take care of some vampires for me.

[He's tired!! Anyway, he's already stepping to walk away, he's done poking bats and being tense!!]
