Quest 24: Akechi
And not just a gun, but apparently backup as well. Wandering into the forest alone isn't exactly high on Kyrie's priorities, thanks!! Even on the off chance the bees are perfectly harmless, there's still a chance that some other horrible thing might cross his path. Or hell, maybe the honey has some toxin in it that knocks out anyone who touches it? Wouldn't that be the real kicker.
Anyway, he's busying himself by checking his pistol's rounds as he waits near the treeline for his chosen partner of the day. It isn't often that he arrives on time, let alone early! Let's hope that's a good omen for their task today, and not just Kyrie trying to compensate for his lack of composure this last time they met up.

(Besides, lack of composure or not, Kyrie was useful back with the sirens, and they managed to succeed at their one common goal-- to rescue Caramia, that is. As far as Akechi is concerned, they're pretty even.) ]
Good morning, Kyrie-san. [ He greets upon arrival, usual smile ever in place. ] I hope I haven't kept you waiting long.
no subject
So he'll wait! And once Akechi shows up, the remaining rounds are returned and he snaps the magazine back where it belongs with a soft click.
"You did," he lies, like a liar, his lofty tone devoid of anything but a subtle amusement, "but not to worry--I don't intend to hold it against you."
Even so, he straightens with a charming smile, tucking his pistol neatly away into its holster. He nods to the treeline and makes the suggestion of a half-step towards it.
"If you have everything you need, shall we go? I would rather we be back before sundown, and without a means to track down any specific hives... well, I'm afraid we may have a bit of a walk ahead of us."
no subject
I do have a general idea of where to find these hives, though. And since I've taken on this quest before, I've had the chance to learn quite a bit about it.
[ That is to say, he and Ryo failed miserably and he's learned from his mistakes, so he should do better this time around! And with that thought in mind, he gathers up his bag and moves towards the forest, though he does wait for Kyrie to catch up. ]
Quest 24: Caramia & Ryuu
"If you're going to come with us, I hope you at least intend to be a valuable asset," he says, which isn't really something that should be said when you've already agreed to let someone join you. He doesn't bother slowing his pace either, trusting that Caramia will keep up and assuming that the newcomer will either do the same or leave them no worse off than they started--although he does glance over after a beat, continuing as if with an afterthought: "Have you got a name? Skills? Preferably ones that are relevant to this, if at all possible."
He's got a schedule to keep!! Caramia can be nice enough for the both of them, he doesn't need to make a good first impression.
Memory Sharing: Minato
Unfortunately, knowing is only half the battle--accidents happen, and so at some point during his otherwise harmless trip around the districts, Minato gets a glimpse of a past that definitely isn't his own.
The memory is crystal clear: a bell clangs gently against the glass door of an otherwise quiet music shop, dust motes illuminated against the afternoon sun hanging lazily in the air. The older gentleman at the counter looks up just in time to see Kyrie as he enters, bows his head politely, and hurries off into a side room obviously meant for practicing. There are papers in his hand, set clumsily against the stand of the piano there for only a moment before he pauses... thinks better of it... there we go, go ahead and straighten those.
Once the door's closed, Kyrie sits at the bench and flips carefully through each of the pages--they're notes, much to everyone's surprise--before he sets his attention wholly on the keys in front of him. Minato might notice that he never once looks at the pages again--he may not have access to his thoughts here, but that's at least pretty self-explanatory once you know about his gift.
There's a pause before he begins, as he gathers his bearings, and then... he plays one note at a time. It's actually pretty... bad?? At first, anyway. Sort of like someone is playing a song at .25x speed, but hey, at least the notes are technically correct, even the chords. It just sounds... flat. Technical. But that doesn't deter Kyrie any! In fact, the longer he plays, the more confident he becomes. His keystrokes come more fluidly, the basics and memorized notation falling into place in time with the song itself, until it becomes much more obvious that he is, in fact, playing a real song.
Maybe it doesn't seem like it should be such a thrilling memory, but Kyrie remembers all too vividly how his heart had pounded in his chest all the same, and how the excitement had brought such a wide grin to his face that it nearly hurt to hold it there.
Which is a distinct difference to the expression he wears presently, as the memory tapers off to its end. He brings one hand to his eyes, ducking his head with a grimace.
"Ahh, it's only you..." Don't be fooled, Minato. That disappointment in his voice? It's actually relief. "This place is becoming an awful headache for me, you know."
no subject
Minato's smiling too. By the time the memory wraps up, Minato's smiling, and even if Kyrie's going to grimace at him, he is entirely undeterred.]
Kyrie-san...
[!!]
That was a beautiful memory.
Hey???? Don't look at the dates I'm a sham
But he laughs, just the once, and lowers his hand.
"Your definition of beauty must be sorely lacking." It's hard to view it as anything beyond a memory, surrounded by so many countless others as it is. "Although, I suppose I could be bothered to consider it nostalgic, in its own way... I was much easier to please, back then."
what dates
Because you were still learning new things, you mean...?
[There's definitely a certain, simple joy in being able to do something like that, so he can understand that.]
Idk what you're talking about
He can recall the memories themselves even without the town's assistance, but the feeling that accompanies them... It's just not the same. Once you've learned to ride a bike, you'll never get the same sense of accomplishment that you feel the first time you make it down the street. And once you hone that skill to a point where you can do tricks and flips, even with your eyes closed, something that was once new and exciting becomes just... routine. Easy--comparable to writing your name, or flipping a coin.
It's why he's so content to stay here, he thinks. Just for a while. A change of scenery and a change of pace, where his abilities are challenged and his predictions aren't absolute. Even if that means having his memories rummaged through, apparently.
"A fool may know nothing, but he has the unique opportunity to learn anything, after all. You should consider yourself lucky."
Is he calling Minato an idiot? Or offering him some Real Life Advice? Ehhh, he can probably figure it out on his own.
no subject
He thinks Kyrie is right, after all...and maybe that Kyrie deserves a bit of a break sometimes.]
I am lucky. Being able to live my life every day, with new things happening all the time... of course I'm lucky.
[A slow pause...and Minato adds, fondly:]
But I think you're a bit of a fool sometimes too, Kyrie-san. Just because you remember everything doesn't mean you can't experience things in a fresh new way still, if you try.
