[Shouto is here and scanning the ocean's horizon. Right now he doesn't see any harpies, but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. Waiting. Watching. Wanting to devour some flesh.]

We though the forest worked that way. It didn't.

[Still, it'll be good to know if the ocean works the exact same way.]

You think the ocean would turn us around? [He's not too worried, considering, but he's staring off in the direction Izuku's pointing.] It's worth a try. If anything, we can redirect ourselves and see what else is out there. Do either of you know how to sail?

Mm. [Izuku hums thoughtfully, staring out into the ocean alongside Shouto.]

We have a demigod with us this time, though. Things might be different. [Shrewdly, Izuku eyes Percy now.] The ocean was calm for you when we went on that boat quest. You have some measure of control over where we go in the water...would you be able to pinpoint the location of the not-mermaids?

I've never sailed before.

[Shouto's gaze turns towards Percy like he's studying him, but really he looks like a lanky teenager to his eyes. Are demigods basically just teenagers? No idea.]

This time you're not going to get caught cleaning for two days, right?

Can you tell what's in the water?

I could try. [He's not sure what to make of Shouto either, it's fine. Nevertheless he looks out at the ocean and frowns in thought.] I can't always tell what's in the water but I should be able to talk to some of the locals and get an idea of where we're going if we get lost. I'm pretty sure we might have to dive deep though.

[Still...] Let's take one of the boats out, anchor it, and see what we can find. Sound good?

[The color rushes to Izuku's cheeks immediately when Shouto calls him out. Seriously, you get kidnapped once.] N-no! If Jackson-kun's here, we should be able to talk to the mermaids.

[Or so he hopes.]

Anyway! [Moving on now.] That sounds good to me. Should we take the boat that we made last time? It should fit the three of us.

[ Izuku has an entire history of finding trouble without ever really meaning to. Kidnapping is new to the list, but Shouto's not going to forget it.

He turns to Percy. Sure, why not? Chroma life is already so weird. ]

... Can you talk to fish?

[Yeah, he's just looking back and forth between Izuku and Shouto. Huh. Who does this remind him of...]

Our boat should be fine. I can steer us out to where we need to go. [There's a shrug in Shouto's direction though.] I guess Izuku didn't tell you, but yeah. Part of my abilities includes talking to sea creatures. Including your lobsters.

[But okay. He begins to walk to head for their abandoned boat. Come along, my dudes.] I don't mind sailing in the dark, but we should probably get going anyway.

Oh yeah! Jackson-kun talked to our lobsters last time, Shouto. [That makes Izuku brighten up immediately, and he turns toward Shouto, looking more excited than he should be.] He said they dream about their rivalry with the crabs. No sea sheep, but a rivalry's pretty interesting, too, don't you think?

[Considering he's keeping a straight face as he says all this... Izuku seems to believe Percy wholeheartedly. Anyway, he'll hook his arm around Shouto's and tug him along.] Do you think going during the night would make a difference, Jackson-kun?

[Shouto looks absolutely caught up in this. He's been wondering about lobster dreams for so long.]

They're rivals? What did they say about the crabs?

[But he lets Izuku lead him along, like he's already used to being pulled into Izuku's pace.]

[That's cute...but also goddamnit Izuku.]

Just that the crabs are kind of huge jerks and they're unfair in a fight. The lobsters have spent a long time trying to strategize and find a way to overthrow them. [Can we please get in the boat, oh my god. He's not sure he can take this (but it's also perfectly fine and hilarious so whatever.]

If we go at night it might be harder for us to see is all. I can navigate just fine, but what about you guys? I don't think your Quirks come with night-vision.

[Izuku gasps a little, even as they finally get to the boat and begin maneuvering it into the water.]

They don't fight fair? That's even more reason to cheer on Detroit and the others!

[The waves lap against the boat's side as Izuku hops into it.] Ah, no. My quirk can help a little, maybe, but neither of us can really see in the dark.

If we find a crab, will you talk to it? [Percy, look what you've done.] Are they the ruling crustacean class?

[Shouto follows him in and glaces into the ocean.]

I can make fire, but I don't think it'll work underwater.

They are, and if you find King Crab I will talk to him, sure. [Gods. The waves rock their boat and Percy settles in along with the two of them, using his hand to concentrate and manipulate the water to push them along.]

I might be able to trap it in a bubble to give us some extra light. I've been able to do that to help Annabeth breathe before. Keeping the air in.

Does that mean there's a King Lobster? [Inquiring minds want to know.

But Izuku puts that line of questioning aside for an equally fascinating one. He's already seen Jackson manipulating the waves and boat like this before, so Izuku focuses on Percy solely this time, leaning forward with intent.]

You can do that, even with something like fire? That's so cool!

Do our lobsters know the King Lobster? [Shouto's stuck on this now. He wants to know about the underwater crustacean war.

Besides, Izuku's got the reasonable questions down. He can be distracted for now.]

I can try. There's a lot of stuff I can do but I'm still learning about my powers, too. It's kind of an ongoing process. [Their boat zips along happily and Percy's navigating to their destination.]

...also no, but there's a Mobster Lobster Boss. Two different kinds of royalty here. That's the other problem.

[Someday Izuku and Shouto are going to stop believing him but this is fun for now.]

[Izuku crosses his arms over his chest, looking very thoughtful.] I never knew crustaceans had such complicated lives, but I've never had a chance to talk to them like you can either.

[That's another thing to come back to, though. For now, Izuku turns his attention back to the water. He has no idea where they are now, but he's assuming that Percy does, with his water demigod senses.] How far out do you think we should go?

[It's awful how neither of them can fact check Percy. Who would do that? Who would go out into the world and spread lies about crustaceans?]

Do you think we'd loop back if we went out too far?

[An asshole named Percy Jackson, that's who. Also there's no proving that isn't what the crustaceans are saying? He's helping. Their boat begins to slow down and turn a bit as Percy navigates, seemingly able to sense the direction they need to go.]

...we're almost in a good spot, I think. I don't know if this works like the forest but you'd think. If we weren't supposed to go out this far and we didn't have a purpose out here it'd kick us back to the harbor. But I'm not meeting any resistance yet. You guys are good swimmers, right?

Can't rule the possibility out yet. We haven't had much experience with the water yet, not like we do with the forest. [Izuku murmurs, growing more subdued now that they're closer to danger, supposedly.]

I'm okay at it, I think. As long as we're not attacked underwater. [Actually, speaking of that...He pauses, suddenly grimacing.] Hey, Jackson-kun? If we ran into a giant sea serpent, do you think you'd be able to talk it into leaving us alone?

Pretty good. [ Not as good as say, Tsuyu, but she's basically built for swimming.

But he plays that sentence back and frowns hard at it. Giant sea serpents? ]

... Izuku. Why do you know there's a giant sea serpent?

...yeah, I'm with Shouto on this one. Why are you asking about giant sea serpents? [This also isn't a yes or a no because that's a monster, and that might be a little harder to negotiate with. Depends on what it is. Who it is. Whatever.]

Because Arisato-kun and I saw one when we were doing the boat quest last time. [It takes everything in him to not fidget and look too suspicious.] It looked dangerous.

[Izuku's just very casually not going to mention that he got way too close of a view.]

Anyway, Akashi-san, Sannomiya-san, and I only ran into the fake mermaids last time, but if there's a serpent around, there's probably more sea monsters like it to look out for.

[ Shouto doesn't look convinced that's all that happened. ] Did you get attacked by a giant sea serpent. [ Because that sure sounds like Izuku. ]

Better yet, why didn't Minato tell me? [Does he sound annoyed? Yes.] What do you mean fake mermaids though? I can sense monsters, usually, when we're at sea but we seem to be okay so far.

[He should've known Shouto would see through him easily. Izuku nods sheepishly.] Don't worry, nobody got hurt or anything! It just surprised us.

[Izuku's all too happy to grab onto Percy's question and redirect the attention.] Ah, it's those creatures that I told you about last time! We're not sure what they are yet, so we just call them fake mermaids. [Amusement sparks in his eyes.] Well, Akashi-san calls them Bootleg Mermaids.

Anyway, I had a feeling things would be safer with you on board. When I went on the boat quest with you, things were much quieter compared to the other time.

[Shouto is quiet but his gaze is boring through Izuku. How much trouble does he not hear about?]

It could be because I'm navigating away from them or they can sense I'm here. Most of the time traveling on a boat is safer but sometimes...[Let's not go there. The boat slowly drifts to a stop in the middle of the water.]

...question. How're we going to anchor the boat and make sure it doesn't drift away? Or that a bunch of mermaids won't steal it?

[He's just going to pretend he doesn't feel Shouto staring at him like that! (This is what you signed up for when you asked him out.)

Anyway, he's going to be pulling out some things from his bag now.]

I brought some rope and a piece of scrap metal from the depot to use as an anchor. This should work, right?

[You're the sailing expert here, Percy.]

I don't know anything about sailing, but if you want something melted or some ice, I can help with that.

[He doubts they're going to have much need for either thing.]

Unless we can keep the ice cold enough to be solid that won't help. The scrap metal might though. [Give him a second to look over the supplies and begin making their anchor.] Don't take this the wrong way, but once this is done I'm going to need both of you out of the boat and into the water.

Why? [Izuku asks, even as he shares a look with Shouto, shrugs, and prepares to do exactly that.

He did ask for Percy's help--he's gonna assume that the demigod knows what he's doing here.]

We can swim, it'll be fine.

[He can also just make a glacier if it comes to that.

He'd rather it didn't.]

Because we haven't run into anything yet, so I think that means we have to head down. I'll create some bubbles for you guys so you can breathe. We might not have long, but it'll be enough to check it out and see what we can find. Or who.

[And the anchor plops into the water.]

[Sounds reasonable enough! Without further hesitation, Izuku carefully stands up in their little boat and then jumps right in.

Splash!

He resurfaces a second later, blinking the water out of his eyes as he waits for Percy and Shouto to join him.]

[Shouto jumps in after him and... this water is cold. He doesn't know why he was expecting anything else, but he'll move a little closer to Izuku.]

[Guys...but there's a nod and once he seems satisfied Percy's diving right in, too. The water doesn't seem to bother him and he treads water while he seems to sense the area around them.]

Feels like the coast is clear. I'll go under first. Once you two are below the surface I can make bubbles to help you breathe for a while. Okay? [He doesn't wait before he's diving down, sorry friends.]

Okay--ah, never mind. [And he's gone.

Izuku shares another look with Shouto, before taking in a deep breath and dunking himself into the water. His hair immediately floats up around him, waving with the movement of the water, immediately giving the impression of seaweed.]

[Into the water they go!

Shouto definitely doesn't look like he belongs in the ocean, with his red and white hair being moved by the tides.

... Yeah, he's not really built for this.]

[Give him a second to create bubbles for both of them, placing them over their heads so they can breathe under the water. Percy himself doesn't need one, and when he speaks they'll be able to hear him clearly.]

This should last for a while. We probably can't go too deep without the pressure being a problem but let's head down as far as we can and see what we can find.

[Curious thing that he is, Izuku reaches up and prods lightly at the bubble with some awe.]

This is so cool!

[Someone drag him along before he pops it.]

Stop prodding at it.

[He doesn't know how stable these things are. So he'll take Izuku's hand and just move it away.

Down they go.]

[There's a laugh but also thank the gods for Shouto. Down they go!]

If the pressure starts getting to you guys let me know so we can turn back. But I have a feeling we're not going to have to go too far.

[For all of his smarts, Izuku is just the biggest and most excitable kid when it comes to seeing new powers.

But, now that he's been scolded, he'll follow them obediently, swimming further and further down into the water.]

How long do these bubbles last?

Longer if you don't prod at them.

[He's guessing, but also he'd like the bubbles to stay solidly bubbles.]

He's right. And they're still full of air. I can keep you down here for a while but probably not longer than a couple of hours at the most. Just to be on the safe side.

Just a couple hours...I guess we'd better get moving.

[As much as Izuku would love to explore the harbor, they came here for a reason, and Izuku doesn't want to waste any of the time that they have.]

[Shouto hums a thoughtful noise, but he'll start swimming down. Better figure out if they can find anything down there.
