[ He can't tell if that was a snap at him for trying to make light of the issue, or if they were joining in with him, and as they sink into silence afterwards, he's left with nothing to do but contemplate whether or not he just accidentally said something tasteless. (Probably not, he decides, because Cairngorm has no probably tearing him a new one when he does or says something they don't like.)
