[Ever since Izuku had noticed how down Emma seemed to be about living on her own, he's wanted to do something to cheer her up. Enlisting Uraraka's help had seemed like the best way to do this. ]

Do you think this is enough? [Izuku squints down at the food that he and Uraraka just spent a while preparing. It's nothing fancy, but it'll be enough for the three of them, at the least.]

[Though the two of them agreed to work on the quest together, it's another story to actually come up with a skill that either of them can learn. Izuku leans forward, tilting his head as he looks over at Keith.]

Let's see... is there anything you want to learn?

[It's new, going on a quest with someone who isn't from home, but Izuku knows that Nyx is more than capable of handling what the forest might throw at them.

Still, the forest is the forest, and with all the trouble they've run into because of it, it doesn't hurt to be cautious.]

This is a little different from the quests I did last time. Hopefully it shouldn't be too difficult to find the Jorogumo.

[It had taken a while to find a decent amount of paint with actual color, but they'd managed it in the end after digging around the various general stores around town. (There's still a couple containers of grey mystery paint--to fill in the blanks or for suspense? Izuku isn't really sure.)

Izuku drops another clean paintbrush into their basket of supplies, before looking over at Dave with a grin.]

So? Which part of the town should we paint?

I mean...the place it'd show up best for people is maybe around the well, but...is it bad to want to paint the outside walls of my place?

[Though Tonbokiri had told Izuku that he would keep him updated on any other trips into the forest they made, it still takes Izuku by surprise when he gets another message from him, asking to meet up again. It's a good kind of surprise, though. And he's all too happy to agree, this time making the trip to Tonbokiri's place.]

Tonbokiri-san? [Izuku knocks on the door politely when he gets there.] It's Midoriya.

[Nyx is decked out in his full armor. The sturdy leather is still worn from his last moments in Insomnia, and he hasn't been able to figure out how to repair the tiny holes where he'd been shot, but the coat is more than enough protection to deal with whatever monsters they'll find on this trip. He wishes he still had his face mask, but the metal broke off before he even got here.

Izuku looks young, too young to be doing what Nyx is accustomed to, but the kid's highly intelligent and while Nyx doesn't know quite yet what he's capable of he's not too worried about having him out in the forest. It's not Izuku's first time out there, after all.

If nothing else, Nyx is confident in his ability to protect him if necessary.]

Any idea what kind of creature it is we're looking for? I don't know the term 'jorogumo'.

[Besides the fact that they'd intended to meet again to tell each other more about their worlds, there came to be more reasons for Midoriya and Tonbokiri to meet. Not only had the quests had come along, but Tonbokiri had taken another trip into the forest and as promised would report to the boy about it.

So once the rain at last cleared, it was arranged for Midoriya to meet up with Tonbokiri.

Hearing the knock on the door, Tonbokiri appears from around the corner of the house. (Probably not what Izuku was expecting.)]

Midoriya-dono! Welcome. The weather is so nice today, I was doing some things with Mikuniguro while I was waiting. [The large, round brush in his hand may serve as a hint as to what he was up to.]

Would you like to meet indoors? Or would you like to stay outside?

[Deku can squint up close all that he likes, but Ochako takes a step back to survey the spread of food: grilled fish, grilled purple potatoes, and grilled blue corn. No one can say that they're particularly creative, but. An effort was made!!]

It should be. [She gives everything one last look, then finally nods with satisfaction.] We make a good team, Deku-kun! This didn't take long at all!

[In terms of quests, the one about learning a new skill had immediately piqued Izuku's interest--he loves learning, loves soaking in new knowledge whenever he can. So it isn't a surprise that he's actually kind of excited when it's time to meet up with Riku to work on this one.

He smiles at Riku brightly once he's inside the house, looking at him expectantly.]

It's really cool that you can play the guitar, Nanase-kun! Can you play any other instruments?

[Busy as Izuku's been with working on the quests, he hasn't had a chance to really go looking for the herbs until today. Once he has a good bag-full of it, Izuku heads over to Guren's place to deliver them.

Knock, knock! He hopes his teacher's home right now, or he'll have to come back later.]

[It takes him a few minutes, since he's up in his room, but he answers the door before too long, glancing down at Izuku in surprise.]

Izuku? [Hey, kiddo. He sees that bag, too, so he can assume that he's completed what he was asked to do... That's great. It gives him something more to work on.] You can come inside, if you want.

Sure! [Izuku follows Guren into the house, slipping the small pack over his shoulder.]

I brought the plants you wanted. Where do you want me to put them?

[Though Tonbokiri surprises Izuku with his appearance, the horse's name makes Izuku perk up immediately.]

Let's stay outside with Mikuniguro. It'd be nice to see him again. Besides, you were in the middle of brushing him, right?

[Izuku cocks his head, looking puzzled.]

Why would it be bad? It's the house you're staying in, so why can't you decorate it the way you want to?

Haha. I guess it's not just my place? [ which is...weird but not bad. ] What about the house across from mine to start with? The brick over here.

You can bring them up to my room. Thanks.

[He figures he won't be going to the apothecary just yet. He's got to finish these defense force team ups before he messages them out, and then he has to decide what drug he's going to work on first... All while way too much is on his mind.

He's got that tired look behind his eyes again as he follows Izuku up the stairs.]

Yes. My apologies; I thought I might be finished by the time you arrived. But I am glad you don't mind.

[Around the corner of the house there is indeed Mikuniguro, who has taken this opportunity to try and find some more dandelion flowers to eat. It's a tricky thing, getting the head without the still-tasteless stem.

At the appearance of a new person he looks up, blinks (it's nice to see you again, too), then returns his nose to the ground.

Going by the look of the horse, with the front looking sleek and black and the rear looking rougher and dusty, Tonbokiri is literally almost half-way done.]

Please, take your ease while I finish this. I can tell you about the forest first, if you like.

[There's an air about Nyx that Izuku recognizes from the more seasoned proheroes--he's seen fights and knows how to handle himself. Izuku had known that already after their talk at the town meeting last time, but now that they're heading into the forest for this quest together, it's even more clear now.]

We have stories about them back home. It's a youkai--um, I guess the best translation for that would be some kind of supernatural creature? Anyway, it's a spider youkai that can take on the form of a human woman.

[Youkai aren't the same as heroes or quirks, but Izuku takes to rambling on anyway, since Nyx asked him a question.]

The Jorogumo's known to use that form to trick its victims. It's why the stories always mentioned how it usually went after men because they were easier to distract when it was in its human form. I don't think they ever said anything about tracking the Jorogumo down, though, since it usually went to them.

[Uraraka thinks they're a good team! Izuku basks in that thought for a moment, even though they've known that since that first class with All Might.]

I-it's because we both know how to cook a little... [They might not be as skilled as Satou or Bakugou, but they know enough to pull this off!] We should team up again some other time.

[And now he'll grab the basket they'd scavenged for beforehand.] Let's pack everything away and head over to Emma-chan's place before it all gets cold!

We can do whatever you want, Strider-kun! [It's his wish after all!]

Are you not used to sharing a living space with people?

Hi, Mikuniguro! [He greets the horse cheerfully, gently putting his hand on the horse's neck while he searches for something to eat.] It's okay, Tonbokiri-san. Mikuniguro's grooming is really important! You shouldn't have to rush through it.

[Besides, he doesn't mind at all when this means he gets to watch Tonbokiri finish up the grooming. Being the city boy that he is, horses are kind of a mystery to him, and he's never gotten to see anything like this up close before.]

The forest is a good place to start. Did you run into anything else this time?

[Izuku trails behind Guren, pensive after seeing his teacher's face more clearly. He remembers that look. It's the one he'd worn after coming back from the forest. There hasn't been anything disastrous since the shadows finally stopped attacking them, though, as far as Izuku knows. What could be bothering Guren this time...? With no immediate leads to go off of, Izuku starts fishing.]

Sensei, what have you been working on?

[They're similar. Izuku's familiar with the way Guren apparently likes to pile on the work when he's upset, to keep unwanted thoughts from surfacing too often, and wonders if that's what's happening here now.]

Not such close quarters, I guess. On the meteor we could all spread out a little. So the last person I really "lived" with was probably my Bro, back when I was thirteen. [ he eyes his house and then the opposite one and heads towards the opposite one. ] If we paint this one we'll be able to see it from our windows when we wake up.

No, but if I may say so, I'm glad I didn't.

[Walking to Mikuniguro's other side so that he can face Midoriya as he speaks, Tonbokiri resumes grooming the horse with firm, long strokes. Tufts of hair and puffs of dust rise up before the brush, which he clears with his other hand.]

Mikuniguro and I entered the forest again a few days ago. The path opened up as before, and so being determined to get as far as possible and see the end of it, we rode hard and fast. We went deeper into the forest, but did not encounter that cave again. Instead, the forest closed in around us, twisted roots covered by old leaves making the footing difficult. Rather than tones of grey, the forest became blacker. Still, we pressed on and on.

Then, I was being followed. [He continues steadily and rhythmically brushing Mikuniguro, but he pauses for a moment, recalling that time clearly and wishing to convey it accurately. Mikuniguro, as if picking up on what is being spoken about, breathes out a rough neigh.]

I never saw it. It never closed in completely on us. But I could sense that it was large and extremely dangerous. There was an unmistakable impression that it was waiting for nightfall, so it could emerge, hunt, and devour us.

The further we went in the more difficult the path became and the stronger that feeling was. So we turned back. As best as I can tell, the dangerous thing did not follow us past the area when I'd initially sensed it.

[He pauses his brushing and looks directly at Midoriya, his words heavy and direct.]

Please understand, Midoriya-dono. I am not one to flee from a fight. I am unafraid of being outnumbered and outmatched. But I know when I am in danger of being broken.
Were I to stay in that forest alone at night, I would surely be at great risk of being broken.

I tell you this to warn you: do not enter the forest at a time even close to nightfall. Advise others against it. Rest assured, I shall tell this all to Ichinose-dono as well. I very much wish to take a group of the most suitable fighters to defeat this threat before it comes to us. But I will tell only you and him this story, for now. Should everyone know of it, I feel that the foolhardy will rush ahead and be crushed, and the passive will be even more burdened by fear. So I would also ask that you keep this to yourself for the time being. ...Unless, you know of other people who have sensed such a thing in the forest?
