[ So here they are, on one of the quests Noctis finds startlingly familiar -- he's done this more than a dozen times before, running errands of varying natures and getting in and out of trouble like a duck gets into water, and this should be a piece of cake, right?

They're supposed to be catching a bunch of geese and taking them back to the town; what happens after that is beyond him, although a part of him is entertaining the thought of cooking at least one of them, or something (maybe after they bring it back, although the question is -- are they going to still taste like ash?).

Glancing over at the other two, Noctis comments. ]

Uh. So, either of you have experience as a birdcatcher?

[ Noctis hates spiders in general -- and spider-daemons especially so, and it doesn't surprise him that creatures like these exist here as well. Arachne is the name, and he wonders if he'll meet it in person again, or if it's a different breed. Doesn't matter, they just have to keep the town and its people safe from things like these. As far as he knows, the towns don't have runes to protect them.

When Ignis joins him just outside the woods, Noctis cracks his knuckles; this quest is going to be as good a distraction as any. ]

Ready to kick some spider ass?

[ Okay, so. Geese-catching and Noctis are just about as compatible as water and oil. Give him a fishing rod, bait and some time, and he'd be happy as a clam near a body of water, but catching birds? It's just as well that he's right here together with Dex and another dude he's caught glimpses of in the town hall.

They're gonna work this out, right? ]

Hey. I'm Noctis.

[ He greets the other guy with a brief wave and a flicker of a smile. Spot, the black chocobo patiently waiting around behind Noctis, is starting to groom his feathers. ] Oh, and this is Spot, he's decided to come with us. You guys ready?

[ Trekking through the woods is not unlike making his way through a dungeon -- it's dark, thankless, and rife with dangers. In this case, it's spider-women daemons who have a taste for human flesh and all, posing an incredible danger to the townspeople. It isn't very different from pest extermination, except in this case the termination in question needs one hell of a lot more effort.

And could possibly get one killed. Making sure to be as quiet as possible, he pauses when he hears a soft, slithering sound. Glancing over at his companion, Ultima Blade materialising in his hand in a heartbeat, he stiffens. Just as easily, his trademark easygoing nature and reticence falls away, replaced with a seasoned warrior, attuned to his surroundings.

Did he hear that? ]

Opisthosoma, actually. The arse is more of a mammalian trait, evolutionarily speaking.

[Is this really a topic of conversation we're having? YOU BETTER BELIEVE IT IS.

...Or is that, you butt-er believe it is? Heh-heh-heh.

Still, with a flash of blue magic and a sound like glass shattering, Ignis reaches into the air and abruptly draws his spelldaggers from the armiger, holding them loose and easy in his hands.]

Regardless, I'm quite ready, thank you. The sooner we eliminate this menace, the safer the town will be for it.

Hey! I'm Midoriya. Or.. Izuku, if you're used to using first names. [Izuku returns the smile with a bright grin of his own.

Then, he turns his attention to the chocobo, looking fascinated.] Did he come with you from home? [Completely unsubtle, Izuku shifts closer in hopes of petting it.]

Careful.

[Guren's voice is low, just above a whisper, his own hand on the hilt of his blade. How many of these things would there be in this forest? He was curious about this, as well, and so he'd agreed to as many outings as he could.]

Her approach can differ. Watch out for webs.

So what's the name for the butt of a spider that's sometimes a hot chick?

[ Noctis asks him bleakly; the question of philosophers and all. Ignis can be pedantic sometimes, and while Noctis often learns new things that he probably hadn't intended on learning -- like the deeply unattractive real name of spider butts, he can't help but tease him about it sometimes.

At least, until his innate sense of curiosity kicks in and he decides that he wants to know more, like: ]

Is that where they shoot their webs from?

[ He asks softly, Ultima materialising in his hand the same way the spelldaggers are in Ignis' when he tugs them from the armiger. It's graceful to watch, really, knowing how deadly dangerous Ignis is with them even if his grip is loose and easy. ]

Those would be spinnerets. And I feel quite certain that science has yet to come up with a name for the arse of a lady spider in particular, if only because I doubt anyone has ever come up with a tactful way of inquiring after their butts, much less the sorts of things they shoot out of them.

[How he says that with a straight face, the world will never know. But regardless. Now sufficiently armed and ready, let's proceed forward into the woods, shall we?]

Izuku, huh? Great to meet you.

[ Spot makes a soft kweh, leaning forward to nudge against the new guy's shoulder, clearly entirely shameless about getting pets. ]

[ Noctis only nods, every sense on the alert. He has no idea how many there are, but soon enough, there's a glimmer of white and a soft, unearthly giggle not too far away. ]

You should ask them.

[ Noctis says with an equally straight face. He nudges at him before he's heading right into the woods together with them. And the change happens almost immediately -- there is a very heavy air in the woods, and are those webs? Thin and high up in the trees, and he tenses when he hears soft women's laughter not too far away. ]

[ dextera loves that fucking chocobo so much. his heart practically melts at the sight of spot grooming his feathers, and he will kill every goose in the forest if anything happens to this bird.

but! anyway! dextera can see that izuku wants to pet the chocobo, so he takes the initiative here and pats spot's beak—like he owns this bird, though it's more like the chocobo owns him. get your pets in now, izuku, because chances are the geese won't be nearly as amenable to being touched.

izuku and noctis, huh... it'll be an interesting adventure, but dextera imagines they'll come out of it mostly unscathed. ]

It's nice to meet you, too, Noctis-san!

[He breaks off with a soft laugh as Spot nudges his shoulder. As soon as Dextera makes the first move, Izuku joins in, petting along the chocobo's head and neck area happily.] And you, too, Spot.

Should we head out? I, um...brought some nets. For taking the geese back with us. [From the dubious way he says this, Izuku doesn't know how helpful those items would actually be. Especially when it comes to anything that lives in the forest.]

[A giggle. It had to be her— no one else would be wandering out here, giggling. So, he signals the direction he heard it from, stepping slowly, drawing his blade. Will she approach two men? Armed men? He's curious to see.]

[ Noctis regards the both of them with open, undeniable amusement -- and Spot, ever eager for attention and love, simply makes another soft 'kweh' and lovingly rubs against them both. ]

Yeah, c'mon.

[ But he's giving the nets a curious look as they start off towards the general direction of where the geese are. ] Huh. Maybe we gather them all into one net, then toss the second net around them? Do you have rope? I was thinking we could muzzle their beaks first.

[ Except there is another giggle. One more, and another. Three shapes moving in the forest, almost luminous, as if there's nothing for them to fear. The shrubs rustle, and Noctis stiffens.

There they are. One right in front, the other two at the side. Women. They're beautiful, unnaturally so, and they're sidling closer, approaching them both with soft, silken greetings. ]

Three on two. This'll be annoying.

[ dextera has no rope, but he does have bird-catching experience. this is not something he has communicated to either noctis or izuku, however, so it's probably a little alarming when he pipes up—in his own way, straightening his shoulders and trying to make himself look present—with a gesture that looks a whole lot like just grabbing.

that's the extent of his plan for goose-wrangling. using his hands. ]

Nah.

[Guren is already drawing his sword, his lips quirked into a wide smirk. Once the blade is free from its holder, he flicks it to the side.]

Lend me your strength, Mahiru-no-yo. [His aura seems to change immediately into something far more powerful, and it doesn't seem like he cares if they drop their seductress acts and go full spider on them.]

Whichever you go for, I'll get the other two. Let's go!

What the --

[ Holy shit, Guren looks like a whole new person, like he's practically thriving on this, coming alive and riding on the threat, and Noctis is both impressed and startled -- this, he supposes, is why just about everyone in this town isn't averse to putting their safety in his hands. He's a fighter, and Noctis sure as hell isn't going to slack around.

Seeing Guren's and Noctis' swords, the spider women immediately shift back to massive spiders, deadly dangerous and charging forward, and Noctis, not about to be outdone, quips in turn: ]

Like I'm gonna wait for you to get the second one!

[ This is what he knows, the rush of a fight alongside a comrade who knows what he's doing, the thrill of going up against an enemy and going all out -- and in a heartbeat he's meeting the spider head on, striking at her. He's going to ask about Guren's magic sword later, but right now, fight time! ]

Not really.

[Akira fiddles with his bangs, trying to think of a good way to do this. Maybe if they had a big net or something? And something to attract the geese to them... what do geese eat? He realizes he doesn't know for sure. Grass? Bugs?]

Be nice if we had a big net.

I don't have rope, but I have a lot of fabric scraps we could use for that.

[And then, Dextera's gesture catches his attention, making Izuku turn toward him curiously. It takes a second for the meaning to sink in.]

You...want to just grab them? [That sounds dangerous, Dextera...]

[ dextera nods.

is it dangerous? almost certainly, but he doesn’t mind too much. he’s not sure he can catch twelve of them all by himself, but he can knock out a necessity for some supplies.

and maybe spot can help herd them, or something? it’ll all be fine. ]

[Guren laughs under his breath at that, running at the creatures once they're good to go. His blade has a dark energy about it, but it doesn't always show itself. Sometimes his swings are black and leaking streams of what almost looks like creepy horror movie hair, and other times, it's just a normal sword— though that red streak down the middle of a black blade is always unnatural looking.

He swings his blade, lax, and the spider woman he's going for tries to launch to the side to avoid it. She's not quick enough, and four of her legs are damaged, if not almost completely removed. She's shrieking immediately, but Guren is following up, getting close enough to run his blade through her middle.

Of course, the third jorogumo isn't going to stand around and wait. With a monstrous face and giant, spider fangs that most certainly produce venom, she's grabbing at Guren with all eight of her legs first, while he's busy.]

[ And go they do. Guren is a deadly force of nature with his sword -- and Noctis is undeniably impressed, although there's not much time for that when he has his own jorogumo at his heels, grotesque and surprisingly quick and strong.

Noctis holds his own, swift and sure as he parries and avoids, narrowly getting his head swiped off. The jorogumo lunges forward again, and this time Noctis is ready for her, his Ultima blade cleaves through the creature, biting into flesh and carving through gristle and bone. He warps in a flash of blue, again and again, spared the wild clawing of the dying monster, and out of the corner of his eye he spots the third, and before his own jorogumo even hits the floor, he's rears back and lets his sword fly, the blade slamming into its side.

Noctis is on the jorogumo in a flash of electric blue, pinning the thing in place, but it's not quite enough; he needs someone to deal the killing blow -- ]
